to think these people in Sunderland are not "protesting".

They are not protestors. They are not protesting. They are common or garden thugs and criminals who are causing criminal damage, setting police offices on fire and attacking police officers.

Total scumbags.

Why do people keep saying they are not being "listened to"? We literally just had an election. Too bad if you didn't get the outcome you wanted, but that's life. Protest peacefully, petition, engage your mp. We all have the same voice. They can't start smashing stuff up and scaring people if they don't get exactly their way. No buts about it.

But aren’t loads of the rioters and vandals from out of town? Sounds like a travelling circus of violence to me.

Difficult question for @yabajaba to answer. Will they reply?

do you think if tories were in power this wouldn’t be happening ?

btw pro pals marches are far more peaceful than these “marches”. Also , highly doubt these thugs rioting care much about Jewish community.

@TattiePants Sorry you and other communities are having to put up with it. We're not in the North East these days but my DH is a Mackem and has said pretty much what you've said. It reminded him of the days when the casuals would turn out for a fight not football. Living near Roker in the 70s and 80s put him off football for life. But they didn't represent Wearside then and they don't now.

There was an MN site invasion by Sunderland fans some years ago. Most were a bit dim but some were genuinely funny. One or two MNers went and joined their forum.

ContactNightmare · 03/08/2024 08:29

It’s all about race. A large dose of male violence and entitlement, and enjoying scaring the hell out of people. They are trashing our country. Liverpool has them outnumbered. Good for them

Now be fair. I am sure the thug with the Swastika tattoo and his pals care deeply about the Jewish community.

RayonSunrise · 03/08/2024 08:34

I note that Reform hasn't exactly been quick to condemn this rioting and violence.

Farage hasn't said much at all about the riots in Parliament, but he's been quick to get on Twitter and stoke the rumours that "the police and hiding things about the Southport suspect." Whip 'em up online, don't lift a finger politically where he might have to back up what he says - that's Farage all over.

Time for Reform voters to stand up and say "Not in my name," if they've hopes of the party having any staying power.

ATenShun · 03/08/2024 04:14

The images and videos I have seen aren't of 'poor wee young men'. They are knocking on middle age and look just like the average man on the street.

Obviously I can't speak for any of them any more than you can. However if you were to spend some time speaking and listening to these people you will find many more like them who are deeply unhappy.

People holding what were considered middle of the road political opinions are now tainted as right wing. People asking for an immigration system that is proportionate to what the Country can support are called racist.

Democratic voters pro Brexit were pilloried, watched as any amount of Euro supporters did everything they could to stop that democratic process, and then got shafted by a goverment that didn't deliver on what they promised when they invited the people to vote.

No matter your own personal opinion. That is the opinion of large swathes of the population.

If only we had in the UK some mechanism for choosing who governs us. Perhaps elections where anyone is free to stand and test how popular their views are.

There are a lot of things about this country I'm fed up with, yet I have never thrown a brick or set fire to a police station.

ContactNightmare · 03/08/2024 08:36

a few have Nigel for PM t shirts. Or ones with the Southport children on. Covers up the Nazi tattoos perhaps?

What can't you do? Where can't you go

PandoraSox · 02/08/2024 23:58

I still want to know about "getting our country back"! What does it actually mean? No one seems to know,

This is the country I want back, don't know about violent thuggish rioters.

to think these people in Sunderland are not "protesting".
PandoraSox · 03/08/2024 08:38

They are wearing t-shirts with pictures of the children while they riot? That is sick. The poor bereaved families.

ContactNightmare · 03/08/2024 08:40

Look at this

to think these people in Sunderland are not "protesting".
Eviebeans · 03/08/2024 08:41

cakeorwine · 02/08/2024 23:32

These things don't happen in a vacuum.

Agreed - someone must be organising and financing them given they probably can’t get themselves out of bed and to work on a regular basis

AnneElliott · 03/08/2024 08:42

A lot of the people rioting will have no real idea why they're doing it. Back in 2011 some of the trials of the perpetrators made it clear that loads of them had never even heard of Mark Duggan. They just saw it all kicking off and wanted to be part of it/ have a go at the police.

Same as the disorder in Harehills - how many of those aggressive men actually had a clear position on social services powers to remove children at risk? No, they just didn't want to miss out on an opportunity to cause mayhem.

Hopefully the law comes down hard on them and fingers crossed it starts raining as that will hopefully reduce their enthusiasm.

Rummly · 03/08/2024 08:42

PandoraSox · 03/08/2024 08:38

That is truly shocking.

And very stupid. Because if you want MN onside while you fuck up people’s lives, you need to put on a Just Stop Oil t-shirt.

JoanOfMarch · 03/08/2024 08:44

do you think if tories were in power this wouldn’t be happening ?

Now that is a question. I'm not sure, but like other people have said, I think Labour's different response to the other protests such as Leeds has fuelled what is happening. The two-tier approach does not work.

This is what Kemi Badenoch said today in the Telegraph:

Former business and trade secretary Kemi Badenoch speaking to the Telegraph warned that 'you can't just ignore the tension.'
'They should be saying that we need a clearer strategy on integration, which we don't have at the moment.
'Instead, we just pretend that everything is fine and it's a few bad apples, which is sometimes the case. But if you want to have a successful multi-racial country, you need to make an effort to do that. You can't just pretend that there are no tensions.'

So although I can't 100% say these riots would not be happening, I think language matters and they could be diffused a lot quicker.

The thugs need to be punished. The ones who rove around the country especially looking for trouble. But also look at who else has attended these protests, look beyond the group of yobs throwing bricks. Look at the larger groups behind.

Kemi Badenoch interview: We can’t pretend integration is working fine

In her first interview since announcing her leadership bid, the shadow minister talks about honest politics and the future of the Tories

Whataboutery at its finest. Or most stupid. I can't decide.

ContactNightmare · 03/08/2024 08:46

Fuck off with Tory grift. Who just left office? Kemi Badenoch can do one. What an ego

cardibach · 03/08/2024 08:46

Northernnature · 03/08/2024 01:19

Well I don't live in these areas and I'm not rioting but I still have extreme concerns about all the attacks we are seeing, and hatred from various communities. I'm extremely worried about the world my daughters will live in. That doesn't make me radicalised.

The attacks I'm worried about are from these rioters. There's a lot of nonsense talked about the risk of violence de form immigrants. Yes, some are violent. Some of every group are violent.

Do we need to ask each poster who says that they are not being listened to how many votes they personally got in the General Election?

Jeez. I’m not defending these arsewipes in Sunderland. I hope they all set themselves on fire.

I’m just pointing out that people on here have double-standards.

You’re proving me right. But then you’re so smart you’ll have twigged that, won’t you?

Summerflames · 03/08/2024 08:50

@millymollymoomoo where was it mentioned that the suspect had been radicalised by Islam?

And who are the Liberal elites? I saw this phrase a lot during the brexit ref and honestly had no clue who tf people were talking about. Is there some place on the Internet where people just become accustomed to these words and chuck them about? Never heard anyone use this twattery phrase irl.
