to think these people in Sunderland are not "protesting".

They are not protestors. They are not protesting. They are common or garden thugs and criminals who are causing criminal damage, setting police offices on fire and attacking police officers.

Total scumbags.

I am aware of the Monkey reference and yes it's obvious @ChemicalAli is confused or just plain bloody rude

But I find that comment offensive

What is it you find offensive about it?

What is your point?
The people who are rioting don’t see it that way. Are you dismissing the views of everyone who disagrees with you as lacking in critical thinking skills? Because that might be part of the problem. Young angry men who feel ignored. As I said before - governments ignore an unhappy population at their peril.

Oh can we get to fuck with the "poor wee young men, so left behind and no one cares about them, that's why they're hurling rocks and missiles" narrative please?? If nobody cares about them then why, not one week after the events of Southport, has the news been entirely taken over with these yobs and "no one is listening to them" comments. I bet most of them can't even name the victims names.

Many are just pissed off that people of other races and orientations are now being given the same rights that they have always had and still have. "Oh you can't be a white heterosexual in this country anymore anymore" 🙄

If they want to improve "our country" maybe they should contribute something other than vile hate and violence.

And don't even try to tell me they're there out of any concern for women and children's welfare. If that was true they'd be up in arms about rape conviction rates and domestic violence statistics, but they aren't because they do not actually care about such things, they just want an excuse to attack anyone "other" than themselves.

I don't want them ignored, I want them locked up except for being forced to clean up their fucking mess.

The images and videos I have seen aren't of 'poor wee young men'. They are knocking on middle age and look just like the average man on the street.

Obviously I can't speak for any of them any more than you can. However if you were to spend some time speaking and listening to these people you will find many more like them who are deeply unhappy.

People holding what were considered middle of the road political opinions are now tainted as right wing. People asking for an immigration system that is proportionate to what the Country can support are called racist.

Democratic voters pro Brexit were pilloried, watched as any amount of Euro supporters did everything they could to stop that democratic process, and then got shafted by a goverment that didn't deliver on what they promised when they invited the people to vote.

No matter your own personal opinion. That is the opinion of large swathes of the population.

I blame politicians going back to Tony Blair. They took the racially harmonious country of the 90s and turned it into a divided country. There have been multiple attacks by asylum seekers maybe with mental health issues from dangerous countries in recent years - Reading - 3 gay men murdered in park, David Amess mp...

Yes, before 1997, we lived in an idyllic, crime free utopia. There were no prisons and no crime and everyone went promenading, after church, on Sundays.

Oh, hang on! I meant to say, "What an unmitigated pile of mince."

Remind me, who killed Jo Cox? His name wasn't Achmed.

Rummly · 03/08/2024 04:33

The rioters are just thugs. There’s no excuse for this violence.

It does make me laugh, though, that when violent disorder breaks out when the Tories are in charge there are loads of posters on here shouting “it’s about poverty and injustice!”.

But when there’s a Labour government the MN view is that these toe-rags are indeed toe-rags.

Oh ok, well I'll pop down to one of their "protests" tomorrow shall I and see how many want to sit down and have an intelligent conversation about their legitimate concerns for society. I'm sure they'd be well up for taking a break from hurling bricks knocked out of people's walls to talk to me. Maybe we can write a letter to their MP or something.

I suspect the late 80's and early 90's were more harmonious with regard to inclusivity of all races living in the UK. There was a peace among the less affluent working class of all colours.

That is a fantastic idea as it happens. Shutting people down for having opinions does not work. Listening to and discussing in a constructive way to ensure everyones opinion is important and valid is the way forward.

Yeah it's a fantastic idea, I totally won't end up getting a brick thrown at me, will I? They'll all just want to sit down with a cup of tea and talk this thing out. Jesus Christ.

If they want to be listened to, why aren't they talking? Why can't any of those absolutely frothing at the mouth with excitement online about how they're traveling to these "protests" give a coherent reason for it other than "keeping our kiddies safe" or "gotta get our country back mate" 🙄

Women are being beaten and killed by men who have been reported for DV time and again and nothing is done until it's too late, rape conviction rates are a stain on our society, yet funnily enough you don't see hoards of us throwing bricks through the local weatherspoons do you?

If they want my time and attention then guess what, rioting and violence and using the tragic deaths of young children as their excuse is not the way to get it.

Tommy 10 names is wanting to hold a protest in glasgow. Looking forward to see George square smashed up again

lemonmeringueno3 · 03/08/2024 06:16

Heard a 'protestor' being interviewed on the radio earlier - he was arrested and was furious about it.

He wasn't a rioter, he travelled hundreds of miles to protest peacefully and almost took his wife and kids, he'd never been to a protest before. Somehow, he was kettled and arrested for criminal violence instead and just wanted everyone - his family, friends, employer - to know that he wasn't a racist thug.

He couldn't articulate what he was protesting about - 'everything' - so I guess just general dissatisfaction with a shit life and needed someone to blame, and someone to pay.

Oh, he did say that one thing he wanted was for the police to crack down on crime. Until the presenter pointed out the irony.

What on earth are you on about? The government delivered the hardest possible Brexit. David Cameron said he would take us out of the EU if people voted for that. That was the extent of what the Government promised in 2015. Not only did they do that, but - of all the possible ways in which Brexit could have been delivered (single market, customs union, etc) - they rejected any kind of union with the EU in favour of an outcome that only the most extreme Brexiteers ever envisioned.

But, if by not delivering on what they promised you mean that there was no £350m a week for the NHS and no sunlit uplands and unlimited fish, it’s not like people weren’t warned repeatedly that this was never going to happen. Even Jacob Rees-Mogg stated that it would take 50 years to see the benefits of Brexit. We have 45 years more to go, by that reckoning, so I’m not sure what is so surprising about our economic plight. Rather than blaming the millionaire charlatans like Farage who made these ludicrous claims (and who enriched themselves very nicely by betting against the £), the “Engerland till I die” mob continues to revere them. Like Teflon, none of the shit ever seems to stick to them.

Everything you say is right. Except the £350m p.w. for the NHS. Increased spending on the NHS has been higher than that since Brexit.

Well these rioters are sad as no-one will listen to their racist, sexist, homophobic ideas. Diddums.

GinAndBeerIt · 03/08/2024 06:40

You never see those yobs and hooligans out rioting in the depths of winter do you.
Funny that.
I remember the UK riots in the 80s, the first one being the Brixton riot in April, which was very warm and more followed in the summer, predominantly in July.
Come winter, they're all comfy in front of the TV with their outrages left forgotten on the doorstep!

Sceptical123 · 03/08/2024 06:41

I agree they’re there because it’s summer and it’s an excuse to have a go at the police ‘legitimately’ and do a load of criminal damage and theft. Funny how the numbers aren’t so great in the winter months. As soon as I read they were holding beer cans and drinking they lost any moral high ground or pretence it was a protest and it showed these were the same twats who would be stuffing rockets up their bum, high on booze and cocaine, and wreaking havoc during a big England football match 🙄 Mindless scum.

Also ‘thugs’ and ‘thuggery’ have obviously been the approved terminology for all the officials mentioning this and commenting. The amount of times you read these terms when looking at news articles, they really stand out. The powers that be obviously had a meeting and decided this label would be acceptable and word was passed down to use them as they were deemed powerful enough to show disapproval but inoffensive to the vast majority. Just reading the first page of this thread I lost count at the number of times posters were using thugs and thuggery themselves which shows the power of official language has had the desired effect among us already.

Round them up, throw away the key.

DdraigGoch · 03/08/2024 06:48

Does anyone honestly think that if the person who has been charged with this atrocious crime were white we would be seeing any of this despicable behaviour.
@Lifeomars honestly? Yes. The riots have nothing to do with those poor girls. These thugs would have latched onto any pretext, if it wasn't this they'd have found something else. Hot weather often means that people are spoiling for a fight.

DdraigGoch · 03/08/2024 06:49

StressedAndDepressed1 · 02/08/2024 23:23

I find it very interesting that none of this mob turned out when Lucy Letby killed multiple babies, and was found guilty in court.

Yet when there's a rumour floating around on social media they can mobilise to smash up multiple towns and cities.

Hot weather has a lot to do with it. Have you ever seen a riot on a rainy day?

"England til we die" might not go down quite as well up here... It's scary to think of those people bringing their hate up here. And even scarier to think there might be people up here in Scotland who'd join them.

ThatBusyPanda · 03/08/2024 06:51

Been awake since 5 reading all the racist comments online. I’m not white and I’m scared to go out now, in case I’m a target, it seems they have a lot of support online… I’m pregnant with a little girl and it breaks my heart to see the environment she’s about to be born into
