Neighbours using our drive as their path

We live in adjoining terraces, both with driveways. All other houses in our terrace have walls or hedges between them. We don’t but there is a decorative border type thing to delineate them. So it’s very obvious when you step off their property into ours.

They fit 2 cars onto their driveway but this is only possible because we don’t have a wall. They need to open their car door across our drive to be able to get in and out. This I don’t mind.

However, because it’s a squeeze to get between their cars they and their visitors, deliveries etc use our drive as a pathway to get to their front door. It’s got to the point that people literally step out of their door, step over the decorative stone thingy and then walk across our drive to the street.

We have a ring doorbell so get alerted every time somebody does this. It’s now got to the point that our drive is used as their pathway even when they only have one car parked and therefore plenty of space on their drive.

These are neighbours that don’t acknowledge my presence if we see each other since I complained when they had builders dumping rubbish on part of our garden.

WIBU and petty to go and buy some trellis and put it up to stop them from doing this? It would also mean they’d have to rethink their parking!

Time for a fence

Mountainpika · 02/08/2024 19:21

Your garden, your space.

Arlott · 02/08/2024 19:21

Get a fence!

Bannedontherun · 02/08/2024 19:21

Large wall even better

Dillydollydingdong · 02/08/2024 19:21

No, it wouldn't be unreasonable. I'm surprised you haven't already done it.

MissMoneyFairy · 02/08/2024 19:22

Buy the trellis or plant a hedge, cheeky f.

HappiestSleeping · 02/08/2024 19:28

High fences make good neighbours.

We have a similar problem. Our neighbours are constantly driving across our drive as they can't be bothered to use the steering wheel. In the great cosmic oneness, it is hardly a big issue, but when their car leaks oil over our drive, I confess that it grinds my gears a bit.

We are going to put a fence in, and I bet they say something.

ChockysChimichanga · 02/08/2024 19:47

I had the same issue. A fence isn’t possible so I moved my bins to block the route they were using.

Sunnydiary · 02/08/2024 19:49

I doubt a trellis will stop them. A proper fence or wall is what’s required here.

PollyPeachum · 02/08/2024 19:53

Good fences make good neighbours.

BenchyMcBenchFace · 02/08/2024 20:18

Aah, GIVE US A DIAGRAM!!

Chipsahoy · 02/08/2024 20:25

We had similar. We put in trough style planters with spiky plants. That soon stopped them.

CatMum27 · 02/08/2024 20:27

Another vote for a fence or some other permanent boundary. As long as it’s on your property there is nothing they can kick off about, although I suspect they will try. Good luck!

HeddaGarbled · 02/08/2024 20:27

Don’t start a stupid enmity with your neighbours over something that’s no skin of your nose. You’ll regret it.

BruceLikesCake · 02/08/2024 20:31

Fence it off!

Sounds like the same fence we were about to put up because of the same issue. We couldn't sink it into the ground, so I devised a way of using railway sleepers with the fence on them. Juuuust about to buy them & the horrible neighbours moved out.😄🎉🍾

Mirandawrongs · 02/08/2024 20:50

another vote for put a fence up.
3ft is enough of a deterrent but you can go to 6ft.

Why can’t they stop being bad neighbours? Why is it always on the person at the receiving end to keep the peace 🤨

ButterCrackers · 02/08/2024 20:54

Install the tallest fence allowed asap

PermanentlyFullLaundryBasket · 02/08/2024 20:54

Turn off the Ring notifications except for the doorbelll? Because they are really annoying anyway.
I can't see it is hurting you other than a phone chirping. And it isn't worth falling out with someone that you live cheek by jowl over.
