Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

Did anyone see Mike Lindell (Trumps big supporter and bestie) lose an argument to a 12 year old child, it was hilarious 😂

I did! I'm surprised he didn't challenge him to a pillow fight! In all seriousness, any other time it would be classified as bullying a child but that 12 year old stood their ground!

I loved the bit where Mike Lindell said something to the Child like:

"Do you keep up with the news, do you know what's going on?"

and the Child replies:

"Yeah, I do. I heard all about your bankruptcy too"

Another great line from the Child to Lindell:

"So your evidence on election interference is just trust me bro ?" (head tilt)

That Child just absolutely nailed the MAGA idiot.

Just for the record, trump vastly increased the US national debt well before the pandemic, with tax cuts and spending. It wasn't just Covid, by far.

thehill.com/business/4426965-trump-added-8-4-trillion-to-the-national-debt-analysis/amp/

He was a disaster in so many ways. I'm pleased at how well Harris has been doing.

I stand corrected on the dates, apologies. I though it was interesting KH did not deny the criticisms, implying they were factual, and I wouldn't vote in any election for anyone who did these things. I'm not a Trump fan either, I think the USA has had to make choices between entirely unsuitable candidates for the last 2 elections tbh. It's scary.

Not wasting precious minutes of your allocated time in a debate refuting attacks by an opponent doesn’t make those attacks true.
This is the core dilemma for Trump’s debate opponents

Do you actually have a vote? I find it scary that some voters seem to be so easily taken in by scraps of video from more than 4 years ago.

That kid was stellar. Always asking for the evidence!

Well, the democrats went trawling way back into Trumps history to bring up the charges he was found guilty of, so I guess it works both ways. Past behaviour does matter.

Are you equating working in a job and applying the justice system in a way that might not fit with everyone's differing principles (including mine) and tax fraud, misusing funds to influence the outcome of an election and sexual assault?

Viviennemary · 23/08/2024 12:23

No, just the way each side trawls though their opponents pasts to dig up all the dirt they can. I'm no fan of Trump, won't defend him.

Viviennemary · 23/08/2024 12:23

What would you like to happen then? It's a binary choice. Is she so totally fake that Trump would be better as leader of the free world, is that what you're saying?

Surely it would be better for Harris to win, the country will remain stable (which it won't under the useful idiot Trump) and the Republicans nominate someone else and rebuild their support for 4 years time.

But obviously if you are a Trump supporter, my questions are rhetorical.

BustingBaoBun · 23/08/2024 12:31

I asked this of someone who said similar to you. They didn't reply.

How do you suggest politicians who are running for elected office win elections, if not by promoting themselves as much as possible?

MacDonaldandHobNobs · 23/08/2024 12:39

Viviennemary · 23/08/2024 12:23

I think she's awful. A totally fake self promoter,

Whereas Trump is just an authentic shy retiring wall flower who would never dream of hocking Bibles, gold trainers and weird AI trading cards.

When you look up self promoting in the dictionary, Trump is literally the definition of that term. He is running for president to stay out of prison. Self interest is at the very core of his being. He does not care what harm comes to anyone else. Not his political colleagues in the Capitol during the riot, not the investors who he encouraged to invest in Trump media which is currently tanking, or the small businesses he drove to bankruptcy by defrauding. He is literally the most self serving individual in existence.

You're equating two completely different things. One (volatile) individual asks questions of KH vs an actual trial in a court of law in which DJT was found guilty on 34 counts.
How is Harris's record 'dirt' in any way? There was no need to 'trawl' for it, it's on the record whereas Trump was actually investigated by official agents of the law and put on trial.

Hilarious. And what's Trump? If you're not keen on candidates who self-promote, he is far worse.

Not to mention accused by his victim(s)

Ah, but she's a woman (and a non-white one at that). It's different when they forget their place and put themselves forward.

The absolute blind hypocrisy would be hilarious if not for the potential consequences.

MacDonaldandHobNobs · 23/08/2024 12:48

The easiest way to distinguish between these two candidates:

One has a long career in public service.

One has a long list of victims.

I read her autobiography and she'd very left. Too left for me (and I'm generally left of centre). Not convinced at all that average US citizens will vote for her.

Edited

A very long list.

Whether that be someone he raped or sexually assaulted, the small businesses he used and didn't pay, the US states he used for rallies and didn't pay, an ex wife he buried on his golf course, the people who died after he incited an insurrection, the covid victims because he assured the public it would go away when it got warmer, and as for his 6 bankruptcies and the way he treats and talks about women... don't get me started...

Left of center might be needed there to balance out 30 years of favouring the wealthy and corporations.

How would you characterise 'very left'?

I'd put myself left of centre and I don't see that, although have bought but not yet read her autobiography (and won't have time this week), so I'm curious about what's in there that makes you say that, @yoshiblue? If anything, her record as a prosecutor landed her in hot water for being anything but 'very left'.
