Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

Crap response but can't remember too much as I read it 4 years ago! At the time I remember thinking she was more Corbyn left than New Labour.

She's certainly not just left of centre, let's face it Americans think the Tories are lefty socialists! 😂

It's interesting because, if anything, the people I know who don't much like her are the very left due to her prosecutorial career, which to be honest, is a bit of a mixed bag. My kids and their friends (who will vote for her to keep Trump out) see her as too aligned with Biden on Israel and don't much like her record on what they see as the misuse of the carceral state.

*I'm American, if that makes a difference.

What? I can assure you we don’t.

Well then why do you claim she's 'very left' when you can't even remember the details? To take the same tack to the Harris-bashers on here as that 12 year old kid did - can you please be more precise? What's your evidence?

All the Harris-bashers are so so vague, all about 'feels', a video they once saw, a book they read that they don't remember too much. It's just so empty.

She can be as left as she likes in my book. This is Trump, the alternative.

I laugh but it’s so sad and true.

What would you like to happen then? It's a binary choice. Is she so totally fake that Trump would be better as leader of the free world, is that what you're saying?

Surely it would be better for Harris to win, the country will remain stable (which it won't under the useful idiot Trump) and the Republicans nominate someone else and rebuild their support for 4 years time.

But obviously if you are a Trump supporter, my questions are rhetorical.

Trump has been President. The world is still intact. Not looking forward to seeing that manic grin on our screens for the next three years.

Yes the world is still intact. He didn't press the nuke buttons. Do you think he'd be any better second time round, or a lot worse?

He has plans.

  1. Revenge for anyone who has wronged him in the last 8 years
  2. Leave NATO
  3. Admire and cosy up to Putin and other dictators.
  4. Project 25. Ignore it if you like. But 90 people from his last Administration wrote it. He will be implementing as much as he can manage of it.
  5. Stripping the career civil servants of their rights so he can sack them.
  6. Women, gay and trans people will be targeted.
  7. Issuing pardons for all those involved in the Insurrection. They were, apparently, 'true patriots'. People died that day.
  8. Dismantling the education system.

As for 'the manic grin'... how sad you are judging a woman on the way she smiles and obviously would prefer the man who will destabilise the world if he gets in.

Personally I would prefer 'the grin' than the 8 points above which barely scratch the surface.

She has been roundly criticised on Australian TV. No policies. Just grinning and razzmatazz. Not good.

What Australia say about her grinning is really errrmmmm pretty irrelevant surely?

Bring on the razzamatazz I say. Better than Trump whinging and moaning on with lie after lie in a flat monotone. And better than sharks and electrocution, although that bit was quite funny

Viviennemary · 23/08/2024 17:50

No more than anyone else. The UK included. But her bizarre behaviour hasn't gone unnoticed.

No chance it's Australian tv owned by the Murdochs, I would imagine. 😂

her bizarre behaviour

Can you cite some examples of this, @Viviennemary? Taken from primary source video, not snippets and compilations, please. Thank you!

prettybird · 23/08/2024 18:24

Those criticising Harris purely for smiling and heaven forfend laughing Shock are deeply misogynistic Hmm

As women, we are conditioned from an early age to smile and to laugh, to "be nice" - and those that criticise women for doing so are demonstrating their own ingrained - whether consciously or unconsciously - prejudice Hmm

I love her smile. I’m hoping it will be the face of the US for eight years.

BustingBaoBun · 23/08/2024 18:32

Well... her rallies are doing well. At least she's not waving to non existent crowds like ole Trumpy

BustingBaoBun · 23/08/2024 18:34

I've got a serious question VivienneMary.

Do you want Trump because he is Trump?
Or because he fronts the Republican party and it doesn't matter who fronts it?
Or because it's not Kamala Harris and her grin?

The UK has been guilty of 'anyone but the Tories' so I'm curious.

Viviennemary · 23/08/2024 18:40

I just think Kamala Harris is just totally unsuitable for a prominent position on the world stage. I think Trump would be the better choice. It's a pity the Democrats couldn't find somebody more suitable. Difficult to say who will win. It doesn't impress me all this wheeling out of Celebs. Its a bit desperate.

Oh my! It's a pity the Republican party couldn't find anyone more suitable, don't you think?

I thank you for confirming you are OK with Trump though, that takes some courage 🫨
I am laughing at 'Trump on the world stage' though. I remember last time.

Didn't Trump wheel out some celebs? I saw some but didn't know them.
Mind you, so many won't and are sending out cease and desist letters for the music choices so I imagine the pickings are a bit scarce

A poised, eloquent, upbeat accomplished attorney, prosecuting attorney, US senator from California and four-year vice president of the US is unsuitable for the world stage? Compared to what?

That demented, criminal, lying, narcissistic old felon?

Unbelievable.

WildLemur · 23/08/2024 18:59

I don't see how anyone could think a former president who incited an attack on the nation's capital - by purposefully and deliberately spreading falsehoods in an effort to cling to power - is even vaguely appropriate to hold that office again.

And with Trump, that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Were he anyone other than a former president, he'd already be in prison for his crimes, with a lengthy sentence.

WildLemur · 23/08/2024 19:04

On the topic of Jan 6, I see Trump is holding an Awards ceremony for the rioters.

Can't wait to see who takes home the coverted award for stamping on the most police officer's heads. 🙄
