Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

Well said, she's hideous & it will be the end of 🇺🇸 if she gets in. Harris has been the border czar & has allowed 15m illegals to arrive. Mass open borders will be a given, free healthcare for all illegals, illegals prioritised over American citizens, the economy will collapse, she makes Biden look competent. She's a DEI hire, the dems would have got rid of her if they was allowed. 🇺🇸 will be a 3rd world country under Harris & Walz. Harris & Walz are a disastrous pairing.

If Trump doesn’t win I think he will incite a lot of violence and lives will be lost. This isn’t just gloomy thinking, it is based on Jan 6. The 2025 Project conceived by Trump’s former staffers is truly horrifying. I don’t believe for a moment he will fail to enact it.

Under Biden-Harris the US bounced back from Covid the quickest of the G7 nations. Inflation is back under control and growth is on the whole very good. Compared to Europe and especially the UK, things look great. Prices are up worldwide.

A lot of the economy is outside a president’s control, but Biden-Harris deserve credit for America’s leading economy. Trump says he would lower interest rates, but that is not in the president’s gift, only the Federal Reserve Board has that power. He doesn’t have any other ideas he is willing to share.

Where are you getting the idea that Harris would provide free health care to irregular immigrants? Or open the borders? Or prioritise irregular immigrants?

The US rate of inflation is currently 2.97%, amongst the lowest in the First World and significantly lower than the long term average US inflation rate of 3.28%.

Most of the world would kill for American gas prices and these prices are controlled by international factors such as the price of oil. The president cannot control them, whatever Trump would like you to think.

According to Forbes magazine, which leans Republican, the only sense in which the US became energy independent under Pres Trump was in becoming Net Surplus. In this sense the country continued and increased its independence under Pres Biden, achieving a record in 2023.

It has been over 75 years since the US did not need to rely on imported energy. Not relying on imports is the other, stronger definition of energy independence.

Reliance on imports has continued through both the Trump and Biden years and shows no sign of stopping no matter who is elected.

Trump has been pulling a fast one. He uses the first definition of energy independence to claim that he made America independent, and the second definition to claim that Biden lost this status. Again, all laid out in the slightly rightwing, Republican leaning Forbes Business Magazine

Agreed. I would like Trump to lay out some core ideas too, but all he does is insult and demean so many people, talk about whether he'd prefer to be eloctrocuted or eaten by a shark, or bang on about what a wonderful guy Hannibal Lecter was.

Rioting in the UK has not been solely caused by Farages comments. It is so much more complex than that. The government isn’t addressing the elephant in the room - which is their own failings of policies. Poverty is very gritty and grim. A lot of people are beginning to realise that despite working away day in day out like gerbils on a wheel- they are getting nowhere. You can’t buy a house, rents are unaffordable, the cost of living crisis, the years long NHS waiting lists. Writing to your MP goes nowhere. Violence is always wrong and never the answer but I think large sections of people are suffering with austerity and desperation. I don’t doubt that there is right wing racism at play which is definitely wrong - but the government urgently needs to address the wider contributing issues.
