Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

If people have to use lies to prove something then it has the actual reverse effect than supporting their case. It speaks of their case being so weak that they need to use lies to try and prove their point. As I said before if Trump is so bad use the truth (you presumably have lots of it) and compelling honest argument.

Pure hatred invoked lies is not a good look or persuasive argument. If anything is ‘terrifying’, it is that the mob that think it is ok to lie about someone because their group think, hates and abuses that person.

When the truth is the spike in the stats was already growing exponentially from January, the largest growth was in March, and by April the growth had already declined significantly, and by May (just one week after Trumps comments) the figures were massively falling.

He was making suggestions for further research to the scientists based on what they had just reported. Of course as President he should be careful what he says, especially if already aware that there are a load of lying reporters ready to make things up, that (as here) vulnerable people reading newspapers are willing to believe.

Falling considerably further in May, just 1 week after his comments

At the end of the day stats are just numbers, if they are not given context. Of course disinfectant poisonings would be up at the start of the pandemic compared with the previous year. It was being sprayed all over and constantly used so people were inhaling it and kids could get it more easily. But the rate of increase was already dropping dramatically when Trump made his comment, and continued to drop even further in the weeks after his comments.

He did, however, repeatedly tout hydroxychloroquine, which has now been linked to an 11% increase in mortality. Alongside his eleventybillion other lies over the past eight years. Not to mention the birtherism as far back as 2011, or the Central Park Five thing in 1989, or the failed businesses, the sexual assault judgment, the tax fraud, the weird foreign money things, etc etc etc.

Hydroxychloroquine is a well known drug used in other conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. It has been extensively safety tested.
