Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Just to get it out of the way - I am completely against Trump being elected President. I'm pretty excited to see Kamala being officially nominated, and looking forward to her fighting a strong campaign - albeit slightly nervously. Anyone else?

This DEI hire stuff is so ridiculous when you consider she's up against a man who inherited a real estate empire, has an extremely mixed business record, had never held a proper job in his life and, even as president, spend most of his time on the golf course.

Harris is many, many magnitudes more qualified than Trump.

SpuytenDuyvil · 04/08/2024 05:14

Don, Eric, Ivanka--that's the real DEI.

missmousemouth · 04/08/2024 08:40

@FayeGreener

She’s got to her position of power. She doesn’t need to fuck old men anymore.

What a vile misogynistic thing to say.

missmousemouth · 04/08/2024 08:48

Then he addresses how disinfectant can so easily kill it, and muses if SOMETHING LIKE THAT could be introduced into the body, possibly by injection to kill it, as something to be looked into (by the scientists he was addressing)

Christ. This is an incredible demonstration of the mental gymnastics people have to undergo to convince themselves Trump isn't a complete and utter fucking moron. Terrifying. As Angelou says: when a man shows you who he is, believe him.

I think you focus a bit too much on their personal characteristics and who is the better/ nicer person. For voters, it is often just a case of whether they and their families felt better off (in terms of finances and safety) under the Trump administration or the Biden/Harris administration and for many people they felt better off under the Trump administration. They are not voting for who they want to go and have a beer with.

It's certainly also who is a good figurehead and who inspires trust.
If personal characteristics don't come into it, then why are all the pro-Trump people on here trying to castigate Harris in terms of her laugh, her speaking voice, who she might have slept with?

The Harris team are also working with Republicans which is very interesting. My OP was focussed on Harris, but ofc in a binary race, that also involves Trump. Coruscating statement from Republican ex-governor of Georgia Brian Kemp after Trump's speech in Atlanta when he criticised him for declining to overturn the 2020 election results in the state ()

Now that she's the official nominee, is anyone else excited about Kamala Harris's chances?

Christ. This is an incredible demonstration of the mental gymnastics people have to undergo to convince themselves Trump isn't a complete and utter fucking moron. Terrifying. As Angelou says: when a man shows you who he is, believe him.

If people have to use lies to prove something then it has the actual reverse effect than supporting their case. It speaks of their case being so weak that they need to use lies to try and prove their point. As I said before if Trump is so bad use the truth (you presumably have lots of it) and compelling honest argument.

Pure hatred invoked lies is not a good look or persuasive argument. If anything is ‘terrifying’, it is that the mob that think it is ok to lie about someone because their group think, hates and abuses that person.

It is not mental gymnastics it is the actual words he spoke as opposed to the lies in the papers and on here. I am not trying to convince myself of anything. But perhaps you are if you need to support lies about what the man said and the context in which he said it. Is there anything factually inaccurate in my post? The video is there and the wider context video readily available.

It is a sad world when someone telling the truth is attacked for it. But if you want to promote fake news, I cannot stop you.

No comment about the poster still dishonestly presenting as fact a massive jump in disinfectant poisoning was a result of Trumps comments. Even though
the stats were compared with the same months in 2019 (no known COVID)
to the early months in 2020 (deadly pandemic spreading like wildfire)

When the truth is the spike in the stats was already growing exponentially from January, the largest growth was in March, and by April the growth had already declined significantly, and by May (just one week after Trumps comments) the figures were massively falling.

with the numbers on Trumps side should we say he prevented poisoning, or should we tell the truth and say with a deadly pandemic spreading like wildfire and with global advice about disinfecting, it is not hard to understand the correlation between that and massive increase in demand for and use of disinfectant and the correlation between that and poisoning cases rising.

which were typically inhalation by obsessive cleaning and accidental consumption by young children from it being left out.

I explained all that to the poster (stats available from official sources) but the poster still repeats posting the lies. What is your view on that?

No comment about the renowned Pasteur institute on the back of an initial limited study publicly reporting that smokers were 80% less likely to catch COVID?

Do you support lies to discredit people you hate like Trump. You certainly seem to be doing your best to discredit me for simply reporting the easily confirmed truth.

TBH whoever is as stupid as that would not stand a chance in the real world anyway

So people who are not super intelligent shouldn't listen to their president.

OK got you

I'll repeat again..
Apparently, people died who did this. Disinfectant poisonings were up 121% as a result in that month.

Fact. Many different sources say this.

Who are these people who apparently did this and died.

Go and look
There are reports out there of people who said that they tried this as a result of what trump said.

Back him all you like. It's laughable

You are repeating misinformation about the stats again. Perhaps you missed this post where I explained that to you earlier, stats available from official sources …

Oh dear you are deep into the kool-aid

once again READ MY LIPS - or better still next time you “watch it” press the unmute button so you can listen to the evidence in the video, rather than your dog whistle response repeating fake news

  1. TRUMP NEVER ADVISED PEOPLE TO INJECT THEMSELVES WITH BLEACH - totally made up.
  2. TRUMP NEVER MENTIONED DRINKING AT ALL LET ALONE BLEACH
  3. TRUMP NEVER MENTIONED BLEACH AT ALL - totally made up

muses if SOMETHING LIKE THAT could be introduced into the body, possibly by injection to kill it, as something to be looked into.

something like that is not that
he was not making recommendations to the public how to cure themselves
He was making suggestions for further research to the scientists based on what they had just reported. Of course as President he should be careful what he says, especially if already aware that there are a load of lying reporters ready to make things up, that (as here) vulnerable people reading newspapers are willing to believe.

Also you say
Apparently, people died who did this.
Disinfectant poisonings were up 121%as a result in that month.”

Ah lies, damn lies and statistics - I think that was the name of the book

Who are these people who apparently did this and died.
Not finding any concrete proof of this with a causative link
surely you would not make this up without evidence

Really up 121% as a result in that month - surely more fake news

Do you want to explain why, or should I.

Do you want to provide the proof of a causative link
Or should I explain why your absolute statement does not hold water

clue perhaps …
you could consider when this happened (April 23rd 20) right at the height of COVID beginning to spread like wildfire in the West.
(You remember after WHO backed Chinas falsehoods, and said it was not necessary to stop flights)
That is 1 week from the end of the month for the stats you quote
people were terrified and stock piling disinfectant it was everywhere
most of the cases were from inhaling from spraying everything that moved
ingesting cases largely being children accidentally drinking it because it was out

Most importantly and unsurprisingly the numbers had already started increasing exponentially for the last few months (all stated as % increase over the same months in 2019), and actually by April (which as explained only had a week left after he made his comments), the rate of increase month on month was already slowing (biggest increase had been between February and March). Falling considerably further in May, just 1 week after his comments

Which actually all suggests the reverse of what you are stating.

At the end of the day stats are just numbers, if they are not given context. Of course disinfectant poisonings would be up at the start of the pandemic compared with the previous year. It was being sprayed all over and constantly used so people were inhaling it and kids could get it more easily. But the rate of increase was already dropping dramatically when Trump made his comment, and continued to drop even further in the weeks after his comments.

He did, however, repeatedly tout hydroxychloroquine, which has now been linked to an 11% increase in mortality. Alongside his eleventybillion other lies over the past eight years. Not to mention the birtherism as far back as 2011, or the Central Park Five thing in 1989, or the failed businesses, the sexual assault judgment, the tax fraud, the weird foreign money things, etc etc etc.

Over the moon with excitement with Harris or not, it's a binary choice.

Hydroxychloroquine is a well known drug used in other conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. It has been extensively safety tested.

That doesn’t mean it is safe or in any way effective for Covid in an unselected population. Hence why non medical people in the public eye should not make stupid statements like this.

Yes, exactly. Extensively safety tested for prescription by a qualified physician in an understood dosage to a suitable patient.

July 1, 2020 Update: A summary of the FDA review of safety issues with the use of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine to treat hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is now available. This includes reports of serious heart rhythm problems and other safety issues, including blood and lymph system disorders, kidney injuries, and liver problems and failure.

Beyond all this ridiculous name calling, Harris and the Democrats want to support people. They want to use the public sphere to protect women, the environment and democracy. The Republicans have every intention of using government, i.e., my tax dollars to line their own pockets. They are well-documented liars. These points are indisputable.

Biden is also a liar. He said there was no border crisis, he said no American military personnel had been killed during his presidency. He said border control union supported him. All of these were lies. The biggest lie was that he is cognitively able to be President

So are my mother and sister and, because they keep up on studies, research and science, neither advise taking hydroxychloroquine (or anything else) in an off-license capacity without medical assessment, supervision and advice.

If you are a proponent of that, you should probably have a rethink.

twodowntwotogo · 06/08/2024 15:36

So Walz as VP candidate - looks like a smart choice? Normcore, Dad, pro-reproductive rights, teacher, coach, veteran, has rescue pets, straight talker. Seems pretty good I think.

OP posts:
poetryandwine · 06/08/2024 15:59

I hope you are right, OP. I like much about Walz. But what seems to have put him on the map is his comment that Trump is weird.

While I agree, and think it brilliant on one level, I worry that many will make the leap that he is calling Trump supporters weird. That brings back memories of Hillary Clinton calling them ‘deplorables’, which cost her some much needed votes.

The Dems must be clear that they are attacking Trump and Vance, not their supporters
