Bloody McDonald's

I absolutely realise that this a first world problem and I'm sure some witty MNer will be along shortly to tell me I'm unreasonable for even eating McDonald's but regardless...

We don't have it often but do enjoy the breakfasts so took the dc today after we'd been swimming. Dd was desperate for a nap at this point so went through the drive thru thinking we'd be quick. But no we got 'can you park in a bay please' and waited 20 minutes before I had to go in and remind them we were waiting. The order was sat in a bag going cold waiting for someone to bring it out.

This happens all the time. 90% of the times we go we end up having to park up and either wait ages or go in to find we've been forgotten. The staff are busy and it seems they prioritise just eat/uber eats orders rather than the customers who are actually there.

No point complaining because a massive corporation like McDonald's won't give a shit but would it be unreasonable next time to just say sorry I can't park in a bay, we're in a rush I'll just wait here in the drive thru? It would probably hurry it up and anyway why should they take more orders before fulfilling the ones already waiting?

Again, I know it's a first world problem but it irritates the life out of me!!

I don't usually do drive thru, but go inside and eat instead.
It's shit when it's cold, isn't it? So annoying!

Its shit either way. I only eat it when I have a hangover. Its seems to help.

isitfridaay · 01/08/2024 12:57

It's rubbish. I know go expecting some disappointment and to feel happy when it's early.

We stopped going after Covid due to the horrendous waits in the drive thru and the number of just eat and similar drivers hovering.

It used to be quite a nice place and eating in was nice too, but really unpleasant with all the drivers
Loitering!

I've been IN the store, waiting for them.to remake my order because they left an allergen on it. I stood at the counter for five minutes while the manager (who I asked to remake) barked orders at the staff. I eventually barked at him that my 8 year old was sitting alone in a booth & the look on his face made me realise realised he'd forgotten - I was right there in front of him!!. It took one minute to remake it. No apology.

Another time recently they gave DD the wrong drink & I had to ride them constantly to get the right one. It took three seconds and a nasty glare from the staff member for annoying her to get it from the fridge.

Honestly our local Macca's has lost business. There's more food options, and the poor service, shrinking sizes and increasing cost has meant a previously full drive through at 6pm is now a glide thru.

mitogoshi · 01/08/2024 12:59

We don't have delivery at ours but you can park up at a numbered bay and they bring it out, works well.

VividQuoter · 01/08/2024 12:59

you can make complaint as a customer to their regional office but is this what you want to do...? Have you ever worked in a kitchen of any kind or hospitality venue of any kind

Youcantcallacatspider · 01/08/2024 13:01

When my dd was a toddler she would only nap in the car so I'll admit to many cheeky chicken nugget stops at maccys. However I honestly never had a real issue with waiting or being forgotten. Are there any others in the area that might be better? If not I'm afraid your only solution might be to vote with your feet. I wouldn't accept cold food though I'd make them refund you or make it again and I'd write to head office and let them know your experience.

Lilysgoneshopping · 01/08/2024 13:03

Like a lot of places they seem to have a bare minimum of staff with a very large workload. Mcds has really gone down the shitter kn recent years. It's very rare I go but my granddaughter likes the chicken nuggets and cheeseburger

Why is that any sort of excuse for poor service? Don't use the 'have you ever worked there?' schtick as any sort of lever to put people off complaining. They absolutely should.

Maybe things would get better across the board if management had to start fielding complaints/dealing with loss of customers.

whatkatydid2014 · 01/08/2024 13:04

I do think it’s very cheap though. We’ve picked the kids & I up a burger each on their 3 for £3 deal a few times when in town and had them with some fruit/drinks from the Tesco express as a picnic. The burgers are not that terrible. Certainly not discernibly worse than the average sandwich you’d pick up out and about.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 01/08/2024 13:08

The last time I did drive through I ordered bog standard. Eg 2 big mac meals with coke. They asked me to park. I said the reason I am doing drive through is that there is nowhere to park and I can see the 2 pick up spaces are occupied with cars with no one in them. Funnily enough the food was in my hands within about 2 mins.

thismummydrinksgin · 01/08/2024 13:13

But at the end of the day very often these are young adults (kids) working in the drive though, I wouldn't put them in that position. Personally, either factor it into your visit or don't go. I find it frustrating too but it's not fair in the staff at drive through .

McDonald's is a franchise, so do complain. The company prides itself on customer service and providing consistent food.
I'm a co owner of a bar/venue locally they use us for their staff Xmas party and are very very strict on not allowing underage drinking...one year there was some trouble away from the bar...the management requested a meeting with us and the police plus to view the cctv.

I've complained about a branch in London and they were very quick to come back to me and apologise

Huh? Op hasn't said that's what they did.

This is OPs AIBU to do this next time....

YANBU.

Mcdonalds can no longer be considered fast food. You spend longer waiting that you would in a cafe or restaurant.

It is also no longer cheap! What is it even for?

We were in there yesterday, out of necessity (it’s still the most convenient place to eat in a hurry with coeliacs - as long as you take your own bun) and it took over 15 minutes to get served. The whole time the order and fryer beepers we’re going off CONSTANTLY. It was extremely unpleasant to eat inside. They were also out of sauce and napkins 🫤

It’s not just Uber eats order that are the problem. They are hugely understaffing.

@Icannoteven can you take your own gluten free bun and ask them to make a burger using that? I haven’t eaten there in years but this would be game changing when I fancy a mcchicken sandwich

AvrielFinch · 01/08/2024 13:23

We stopped going to McDonalds a while ago. Since the pandemic it has really went downhill.

I went inside ages ago with my kids and my friend. Not joking, we ordered between us, a cheeseburger, a latte and 2 mcflurries. 45 minutes later we are still waiting - used table service.

When I asked the staff, they went to check and our tray of items had been put to one side behind the counter and forgotten about. My son enjoyed his stone cold cheeseburger and I, my latte milkshake 🙄

Isn't the McChicken breadcrumbed? Or do they use corn flakes or some other gluten-free coating?

reallifeboogie · 01/08/2024 13:26

I was pissed of with mcdonalds the other day. Ordered Happy meal, chose toy, was given a tin with a qr code in it to scan to play online! That's not a toy.

OneTC · 01/08/2024 13:27

Drive through or delivery maccas is an abomination

Cascais · 01/08/2024 13:27

Maybe it’s trying to tell you something

Tittyfilarious · 01/08/2024 13:28

My DS works at McDonalds and it's been really bad since the deliveries started as they are priority it's genuinely no longer fast food , they park more cars up than ever lately as the online deliveries has increased

JSMill · 01/08/2024 13:28

McDonald's has become rubbish. It's no longer fast food. Almost every time we go to our local drive through, we are told to wait and as other cars are also waiting, we end up parked in a really awkward place where I worry about the car getting scratched by passing cars.
Two weeks ago, I was bringing dd back from a late night training session when ds1 told me the electricity had gone out so I went to McDonald's to get some dinner on my way home. It was 10.30 and empty and we still waited half an hour. I kid you not. Never again.

samarrange · 01/08/2024 13:28

I'm loving all the comments from people who never go there, saying how terrible it is every time they go there.

whynotwhatknot · 01/08/2024 13:30
