Bloody McDonald's

I absolutely realise that this a first world problem and I'm sure some witty MNer will be along shortly to tell me I'm unreasonable for even eating McDonald's but regardless...

We don't have it often but do enjoy the breakfasts so took the dc today after we'd been swimming. Dd was desperate for a nap at this point so went through the drive thru thinking we'd be quick. But no we got 'can you park in a bay please' and waited 20 minutes before I had to go in and remind them we were waiting. The order was sat in a bag going cold waiting for someone to bring it out.

This happens all the time. 90% of the times we go we end up having to park up and either wait ages or go in to find we've been forgotten. The staff are busy and it seems they prioritise just eat/uber eats orders rather than the customers who are actually there.

No point complaining because a massive corporation like McDonald's won't give a shit but would it be unreasonable next time to just say sorry I can't park in a bay, we're in a rush I'll just wait here in the drive thru? It would probably hurry it up and anyway why should they take more orders before fulfilling the ones already waiting?

Again, I know it's a first world problem but it irritates the life out of me!!

Our local McDonald has recently gotten rid of half the sitting area to accommodate the delivery drivers who now have their own special waiting area. It is no longer remotely pleasant to eat in and waiting times are significantly longer for drive through and pick up. It's just a completely different experience. But it must be working for the company because they are showing no signs of trying to improve anything for their in person customers.

Viviennemary · 01/08/2024 15:18

Just don't go again. I haven't had a McDonald's for years. Horrible luke warm limp food. Hate it. Burger King is much better.

mumedu · 01/08/2024 15:18

AvrielFinch · 01/08/2024 13:23

We stopped going to McDonalds a while ago. Since the pandemic it has really went downhill.

Yes, agreed. Me too. Just don't go anymore. McDonald's, hope you are listening.

lemonmeringueno3 · 01/08/2024 15:19

I go quite often but that rarely happens to me. I

think you should try a different branch, or go in to order your food, or tell them about your last experience if they tell you to park in a bay, or ask which item is causing the delay so that you can change the order.

If you do have to go in, and the food is cold, ask them to make it again.

I think it would be unreasonable to sit at the window and hold up everyone behind you.

You can also leave feedback online so if it does happen a lot, report it so that something can be done about it.

Sadly I don't think they'd miss me. A big corporation like that will never struggle no matter how shit their customer service is.

Well, their results came out the other day and they are doing worse than expected.

Probably because of people like you.

They blamed it on the price of their burgers, but I think at lot of people are fed up like you are.

I haven't been to one for nearly 30 years as I don't have kids.

It's not working though. Their takings are down because they have forgotten about their irl customers. I've given up on them after years of feeling like a second class customer.

TeaGinandFags · 01/08/2024 15:22

You could

Go to a different one

Patronise a different fast food chain

Sit in the window until your food arrives. Like what you used to do.

Use supermarket food to make your own at home. Tastier, bigger portions and cheaper.

You don't think it would be unreasonable to delay/inconvience the whole line behind?

But it wouldn't as they'd have to park in the bays too, when one was available

Like I said, irl customers are not prioritised. Somebody email Mc Donald's please and tell them to read this thread. Maybe then, it will listen and gain back customers like me.

Cheap low quality bottom end restaurant provides utterly crap service - I'm honestly shocked and surprised to hear this!!

BeeDavis · 01/08/2024 15:43

Funnily enough my mum went in the other day to Maccies and had the exact same issue, they were sending out all the just eat orders but ignoring the people waiting in the actual restaurant that had paid for their orders. She ended up complaining, telling them it would be nice to keep everyone waiting in the loop, one man had been waiting 40 minutes. She asked for a refund and went to KFC next door 😂

Frenchsplit · 01/08/2024 15:44

Agreed. The takeaway delivery orders ruin it

Not necessarily if OP's waiting for a burger and they've ordered nuggets.

Even if they are ordering something they need to wait for it can be started on while still working on OPs order. Either way sitting at the window slows the whole thing down for everyone behind

If they want to know why takings are down, this is exactly it.

I don’t go after twice being given my mcflurries and having to wait for them to cook the rest! The second time I handed them back! Now I just won’t go. Kids don’t seem to have noticed!

MUCHtodoAboutSomething · 01/08/2024 15:58

MoobyMoo · 01/08/2024 13:57

I can guarantee you their cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired though.

Oh really? Which branch? How do you know, and are their procedures they don't follow?

You can see right through into the kitchen in the one we go to. It looks spotless, and the staff all look good who are preparing it. Salad is always fresh, and clean, never had an issue.

@MoobyMoo

Moier · 01/08/2024 16:06

I'd take it back.. say it's cold.
They will then throw it into a bin and get you new ones.
Mcdonald are well known for throwing away anything taken back and replacing.

bellalula · 01/08/2024 16:08

McDonald's has lost the plot a bit over the last 20 years. Remember the good old days when you walked up to the counter, told the person what you wanted, they took your money and then turned around and picked your food. It would usually take less than a minute. These days you order on the app or at their selves service kiosk and it seems to take an age for them to pick/prep your order. I've often found us waiting 15 minutes for it to be brought out. I've come to the conclusion that they prioritise the drive thru in order to keep that moving.

But yes, you would be unreasonable to wait in the drive thru. How do you think that's going to help? If they haven't got what you ordered cooked and ready then they aren't going to magic it out of thin air. They don't send you round to the waiting bays for the fun of it. Waiting in the drive through would just hold up everyone and likely cause chaos.

You should definitely complain about your recent service though. I've done so in the past and received discount vouchers towards future orders. I did have to hassle and chase the complaints team for about 6 months though!

MUCHtodoAboutSomething · 01/08/2024 16:08

I hope a macdonalds CEO is watching this. You're rubbish and need to upt your game, or your profits will just keep falling. Honestly they may as well get rid of the restaurants, and just have a spot on an industrial estate for delivery drivers to pick up from.

Pharticle · 01/08/2024 16:09

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 01/08/2024 11:27

Their recent profits are well down and they're reviewing pricing and their business strategy right now. They are feeling it.

They’re on the BDS list, loads of people are boycotting them over their support for Israel.

Yes, and so are Burger King, Domino's, and even Starbucks I believe.

Near where I used to live there was a McDonald's and a Burger King so close together you could hit one from the other with a well-aimed chicken nugget. The McDonalds was always busy and took a ridiculous amount of time to get served.

The Burger King was usually deserted with the odd deliveroo rider and an infrequently used drive-through but not much else. But it still took a ridiculous amount of time to get served. I was always amazed at how poorly it was run.

I agree, though, BK burgers taste much better. Damn, now I want a whopper 🙁

I think it had something to do with them giving free food to Israeli troops.

Yes a McDonalds franchise in Israel gave free food to Israeli troops.
To boycott McDonalds for this is ridiculous.
