Bloody McDonald's

I absolutely realise that this a first world problem and I'm sure some witty MNer will be along shortly to tell me I'm unreasonable for even eating McDonald's but regardless...

We don't have it often but do enjoy the breakfasts so took the dc today after we'd been swimming. Dd was desperate for a nap at this point so went through the drive thru thinking we'd be quick. But no we got 'can you park in a bay please' and waited 20 minutes before I had to go in and remind them we were waiting. The order was sat in a bag going cold waiting for someone to bring it out.

This happens all the time. 90% of the times we go we end up having to park up and either wait ages or go in to find we've been forgotten. The staff are busy and it seems they prioritise just eat/uber eats orders rather than the customers who are actually there.

No point complaining because a massive corporation like McDonald's won't give a shit but would it be unreasonable next time to just say sorry I can't park in a bay, we're in a rush I'll just wait here in the drive thru? It would probably hurry it up and anyway why should they take more orders before fulfilling the ones already waiting?

Again, I know it's a first world problem but it irritates the life out of me!!

Huh? Op hasn't said that's what they did.

Maybe I miss read. But I took this to mean stop.the car at the drive thru window and wait for her food.

I hate McDonald’s. We were going away in May half term, we’d cleared the fridge and ordered McDonald’s delivery. They sent fries, drinks and completely forgot all 4 burgers. I rang them, they said they’d refund but wouldn’t re deliver. I was pissed off but got over it.

Exactly the same thing happened the next time we ordered roughly 6 weeks later. They take the piss and I’m never eating it again. Don’t particularly like it anyway, but do let the kids have it as a treat every couple of months!

like you say, first world problems but I’m boycotting them now! They clearly don’t give a shit!

lilyrabbit2 · 01/08/2024 12:21

@Hateam I didn't do it this time but I was asking if it would be unreasonable to do it in future if I were in a rush. I know it's not ideal and I'd feel uncomfortable doing but when you're not getting the service advertised and it's literally happening every single time you go then what option is there?

Agree that McDonald's have upped their menu and their ordering options without upping the staff so it's obviously going to create delays. Greed at the customers expense.

God YANBU.

All our local ones have completely revamped so there's minimal staff, only one till open, and basically you're waiting ages for a - more often than not - incorrect order.

There's five of us, and on the occasion when I've bought enough for all of us, we're always missing something. Of course I report it straight away for a refund, but it's so annoying. And it's no better if I go in and order at the counter.

So frustrating. I go there because I want to be in and out quickly. I'm not expecting the world but the staff in ours are so belligerent as well - you can't point out a mistake without getting a sullen look before they snatch the bag away and go and sort it.

Sorry!

I know you didn't do this. I used the wrong tense in my post

You would be wrong to do this.

YANBU.

Mcdonalds can no longer be considered fast food. You spend longer waiting that you would in a cafe or restaurant.

It is also no longer cheap! What is it even for?

We were in there yesterday, out of necessity (it’s still the most convenient place to eat in a hurry with coeliacs - as long as you take your own bun) and it took over 15 minutes to get served. The whole time the order and fryer beepers we’re going off CONSTANTLY. It was extremely unpleasant to eat inside. They were also out of sauce and napkins 🫤

It’s not just Uber eats order that are the problem. They are hugely understaffing.

off topic but quick question, What do you eat in McDonalds that is safe for coeliacs? My dd3 diagnosed coeliac 10 years ago haven't been inside a McDonalds since never knew they could cater

Muffin101 · 01/08/2024 12:27

I think they’re all a bit shit really in their own way. Our local one is fast but at the cost of actually getting your order right. Every single time we go, they forget something. It might be just the dips but it has been a burger or something more substantial like that. I’ve started checking while still sat at the window which they don’t like but honestly what else are you meant to do if they can’t even get a fairly straightforward order right?! I went off on a tangent there but yea, I sympathise! I guess it’s unreasonable to hold up the queue but maybe they’ll sort their shit out then? I don’t know.

Invisimamma · 01/08/2024 12:28

Use the app to order, then you get code to give going through the drive thru and they'll hand the food out the window. So much quicker and you don't need to speak to anyone.

Invisimamma · 01/08/2024 12:35

Hateam · 01/08/2024 12:06

I'm finding that at many fast food restaurants the Uber/just Eat customers are always given priority.

At my local fish n chip shop I often have to wait whilst moped riders seem to come go quickly.

Theyr not necessarily given priority but it's a virtual queue. What you might not realise is there were 10 orders placed online in front of yours before you got there. Those orders will be processed before yours and they were ordered first. They're not skipping you.

CarlaH · 01/08/2024 12:36

Well the clue is in the name Drive Thru. If they ask you to park up then it isn't a drive thru at all. If they can't manage then maybe they should stop with the UberEats and the like rather than inconvenience those people who have made the effort to visit their establishment.

LlynTegid · 01/08/2024 12:36

Vote with your feet and don't go there again. You'll probably be healthier as a result.

That's a fair point. I hadn't considered that.

stayathomer · 01/08/2024 12:40

I find customer service in McDonald’s mostly great (exception Paris and also in general hate their order screen things, would rather a person took my order!!) and like that you can ‘count on ‘ their food- if you feel like one, the food you feel like will taste exactly as you expect it to. It must be a staffing thing, that or they don’t regularly make the particular food you want/ it isn’t in demand- I’ve only waited twice in my life!!!

listsandbudgets · 01/08/2024 12:42

We've not been drive through for a while but last time DP refused to move into a bay as we'd previouslyhad similar experiences to OP. they were double quick.. about a minute abd a half so they can donit when they choose. Cars were hooting behind us and next two went into bay but frankly we'd had enough probably won't use drive through again

EightChalk · 01/08/2024 12:43

Yeah, this - why would it be unreasonable to wait at the drive thru window? I thought that was how a drive thru works! Order at one window, pull up to the next and wait to collect the order.

HappiestSleeping · 01/08/2024 12:43

@lilyrabbit2 there is a point in complaining. Most McDonald's restaurants are franchises, and so not run by the corporation. There is one near me that is awful, really slow etc. However one just up the road is fabulous, always quick, food always hot. Both are in high traffic areas so nothing to do with throughput, just management efficacy.

If you complain to the restaurant, they will likely do nothing, but if you complain to the corporation, they will likely investigate as badly run franchises damage the brand.

Ouchfuckingouchmyarse · 01/08/2024 12:44

I always go in and order for this reason (and I always customise my order so they have to make it fresh - just add an extra slice of cheese or something) - appreciate not that easy with kids in the car, but I've had so many drive thru disappointments I don't use it any more.

Lilysgoneshopping · 01/08/2024 12:45

Didn't there used to be a little known rule that if you had to wait more than 8 minutes for yoir food, you got it free? I was told this yeats ago but never tried it in case it wasn't true 😆I agree though about the just eat/deliveroo shit show. I worked in a fast food establishment (not mcds) and if the justeats were coming in too fast at peak walk-in times we used to suspend it for 15 minutes.
Then we had angry customers ringing up asking why justeat wasn't available. I really wanted to shout down the phone get off your arse and come and get it yourself 😡

MeouwCat · 01/08/2024 12:46

I would ban the drive through, just leads to litter being thown out of car windows.

DrCoconut · 01/08/2024 12:47

I haven't forgiven them for introducing biscuits to their blended drinks meaning that their gluten free customers can no longer have the pineapple smoothie 😭 And they are getting very expensive too.

QuestionableMouse · 01/08/2024 12:49

Delivery orders contributed to me leaving McDonald's - it was super stressful, took me away from my actual role (customer experience leader) and dealing with the drivers was always awful because a lot of them had limited English, refused to listen to simple instructions like "don't park in the disabled bays" and often took over the dining area space.

Try click and serve rather than DT. In the McDonald's worked in, if you'd blocked DT and refused to move the managers would have cancelled your order and given a refund so it might not help! (Ime it won't help, it'll just piss everyone off and you still won't get your food any quicker)

whatkatydid2014 · 01/08/2024 12:51

They can be rubbish though we’ve also benefited from it. I got 20 chicken nuggets instead of one of our small fries last time I ordered on deliveroo.

@LlynTegid

you might be right if she were going everyday. I don’t get that impression though.

AngryLikeHades · 01/08/2024 12:54

I don't usually do drive thru, but go inside and eat instead.
It's shit when it's cold, isn't it? So annoying!

GoodSummerDays · 01/08/2024 12:54

McDonalds is shockingly bad near us.

I remember years ago the bank of 10 registers, all open at lunchtimes and the conveyer belt type system of making the food and fulfilling the orders. It was so quick, literally less than a minute, half your order was in the bag before you'd got your card out to pay or received your change. Always hot and of course, much better toys for the kids.

Now it's cold, half missing, you have to wait 15 minutes when sat inside or 20 if in the car.
