Why would a 17 year old do this

Can’t bear to read too many details, crying about those poor, innocent girls having fun in the holidays, it’s just so devastating
Why would a young boy do that, I just can’t understand the motive/reasoning behind it at all

Lost for words, heart goes out to those poor, poor families

What have immigrants to do with it?

He's British.

Mental health… it’s the excuse for everything nowadays

You seem sceptical. Are you seriously suggesting that someone who would do such a thing is anything other than insane?

StickyStones · 30/07/2024 23:18

As others have said, humans have always been capable of horrific acts of violence. If we look through history we can see how disgusting people have acted and how little value was placed on life in the past.

This is a horribly, shocking and devastating thing to have happened and I'm so sad for the families of the beautiful girls and for anyone who bore witness to the heinous offence but sadly acts like these have happened before and are likely to happen again. 😢

Since when was neurodivergence a motive for murdering little kids?? Mental health, possibly, neurodivergence is irrelevant

I know I wondered that too. I have no idea what relevance that has, it stuck out to me too.

JulianFawcettMP · 30/07/2024 23:20

Do not speculate. Have a bit of respect for those involved

It’s a chance for the EDL and their rentamob to stir up trouble. They never miss an opportunity to turn something awful into an excuse for hate and fear.

More fucking men seeking violence.

Because he was a women hater. An INCEL! A rapidly growing community which no one is talking about!”

You have no more idea than anyone else. Psychosis is more likely.

Do you think someone of sane mind is capable of such an horrific attack

StSwithinsDay · 30/07/2024 23:23

There are so many posters on Mumsnet who are concerned about their teenagers who spend all day asleep and all night on their phone and laptops. Never leave the house. Never interact with others except online. Eat in their bedrooms.
They always get responses that this is normal teenage behaviour; GCSEs are just finished; they are exhausted; this is what has always happened; leave them alone; you are invading their privacy.
It's not healthy.

There must have been an element of pre planning though.

@StripedPiggy Why though?

OP posts:
Firefly1987 · 30/07/2024 23:28

@Hangingupnow I don't really understand why people think seriously ill and/or psychotic people can't plan an attack, is that general consensus or just what people think to rubbish the possibility of mental illness being the cause?

Yes… just look at world leaders

Ah, why?!

Twolittleloves · 31/07/2024 22:28

Perhaps out of jealousy.....those children were likely happy, carefree, innocent and loved....i suppose someone could get triggered by that if they have had a bad childhood.....and if they were that messed up and horrible, could want to kill them out of spite.

Another theory could be that murdering children is the absolute most devastating destruction of human life....adults wouldn't have had the same reaction and 'shock factor'....and for some sick vile person like him perhaps that was some sort of twisted goal to cause the worst damage.

Like many other killers, we will probably never know the full reasoning behind why he did what he did.....and even if there were reasons, none would ever feel like an excuse for something so horrendous anyway.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 31/07/2024 22:31

How is baseless speculation going to achieve anything?
We know pretty much nothing that would allow you to make any kind of assessment as to mens rea , criminogenic needs or disinhibitors.

Noseybookworm · 31/07/2024 23:05

There have always been people who do terrible things. It is pointless looking for a motive that normal people can understand because there isn't one.

Thistoo2023 · 30/07/2024 22:54

And the reasoning for the Hungerford massacre in the 80s?? Or Dunblane?

Immigrants, apparently.
