Smoking outside in populated public places.

It was a beautiful day as I sat outside my local coffee shop with my 2 children, drinking smoothies and soaking up the sunshine.
Then BOOM, the table next to us lights up a cigarette and it blows our way.

The day before we were lining the streets for a tractor run…. We had a front view and the kids are at the front. Then BOOM, a man behind us lights up just as it’s beginning and is breathing the smoke down on us.

Why oh why is smoking allowed outside, and not just in designated smoking areas, where they can all sit and smoke together. It happens us all the time.

Yes they’re entitled to do it, but is it right? Hell no.

It doesn't make it less vile when one stands next to me though.

go and stand else where or ask if they can stop, just asking - would you mind not smoking as its all blowing my way - they can of course say no - but they might say yes. If they get annoyed you just say - I only asked the question nicely please leave it there.

Smoking is one of the most ridiculously stupid and selfish things a person can do. It's really quite funny the addicts suggesting other folk smoke, just showing how much it controls them. 🤣

You and they can have a problem as much as you like. You can rant about selfishness and whatever as much as you like - that isn’t anyone else’s problem. Whether you approve or not of someone smoking where they legally are entitled to do so, is irrelevant and not something anyone is required to take the slightest bit of notice of.

I cannot wait for there to be more restrictions on smoking. Both second and third hand smoke provoke allergic reactions and I find the smell really nauseating. (It's got worse since peri so might be hormonal!) Very pleased new government is planning to increase the age people can buy cigarettes legally by a year each year until it is eventually illegal.

Weed is a class b drug and people still smoke it in public

Nitrous is class C and I saw people using it in broad daylight at a policed town festival last weekend

Then there's also the cocaine regularly being used in pubs and clubs...

Though I do look forward to the day an adult has to ask another adult to buy them cigarettes

As an ex smoker yes smoking is disgusting and unhealthy and agree with where it should be done but don't wish there was a line drawn with the instant discrimination or judgement on smokers in general. When I was a smoker I was very private that no one outside my close circle knew I smoked. This was because I knew I would be instantly judged as a bad person by many. Those who found out were so shocked because I appear quite prim and proper, am always working out at the gym, and have a very 'respectable' job. To answer your question no you're not being unfair as I was very conscious not to smoke near anyone so but I know others are more addicted than I was. I was lucky I could control it and wait until I was alone. However, I don't get drunk or shout on the streets. I'm extremely polite and help out the local community. I don't cheat or hurt people and go out of my way to be kind to everyone - and yes I was the same as a smoker. But all this gets completely lost if some see you lighting up a cigarette.
