Smoking outside in populated public places.

It was a beautiful day as I sat outside my local coffee shop with my 2 children, drinking smoothies and soaking up the sunshine.
Then BOOM, the table next to us lights up a cigarette and it blows our way.

The day before we were lining the streets for a tractor run…. We had a front view and the kids are at the front. Then BOOM, a man behind us lights up just as it’s beginning and is breathing the smoke down on us.

Why oh why is smoking allowed outside, and not just in designated smoking areas, where they can all sit and smoke together. It happens us all the time.

Yes they’re entitled to do it, but is it right? Hell no.

What like a tractor run??!!

Tractor runs tend to have a charity aspect too.

Dylanesque · 23/07/2024 14:25

I don't regard being called selfish or entitled as insults. It seems perfectly natural to be concerned with my own comfort and pleasure, not that of strangers. If I'm sitting in a place where I can smoke, ignore me and go elsewhere. I will ignore you and stay put

How many activities raise this much money for the government?

Werweisswohin · 23/07/2024 14:03

So you respect the right of others not to have to breathe in the smoke of selfish smokers too then? 🤣

I believe rights should be balanced in cases where there is conflict. Do I respect the right of people to not breathe in smoke in areas where smoking isn’t allowed? Yes. In areas where it is? No, because they do not have that right.

They have the right to move away from smokers if they wish to, when in areas where smoking is permitted.

InterIgnis · 23/07/2024 14:29

Werweisswohin · 23/07/2024 14:04

For the 100th time, being legally allowed does not mean you should have blatant disregard for others.

and once again, that decision is entirely up to the individual.

I can just really imagine you going to stand purposely next to a smoker so you could complain 😂😂

Even if it's a space shared with children and lots of non-smokers?
If it's a yes to that you are the problem.

Must be your strange imagination then.

Which individual?
Why does a smoker's right to pollute the air have more significant than everyone else's rights to fresh air?

So, me expressing utter disgust at smoke stench majes you conclude that I actively seek it out?
That's definitely a you confusion.

MikeRafone · 23/07/2024 14:38

Smoking is not illegal, and people do not smoke inside any longer so there are places to get away form the smoke if you don't like the smell.

Soon it will be banished but until then these people Arne't doing anything wrong.

I don't smoke and haven't noticed that many people smoking anywhere

The one making the vile stench is the one creating the problem.

No, don’t be basic ☺️ You seem zealous and like a dog with a bone, I can just see you stomping around to get even more worked up

Thankfully less folk are smoking.
It doesn't make it less vile when one stands next to me though.

Again, that's a you issue.
I'm not remotely 'worked up' either. I'm not the nicotine addict.

Cars don't blow cigarette smoke.
Cows don't tend to be farting in built up areas.

No, cars blow a much larger amount of noxious gases. And who cares about built up areas - no one is making that distinction. I highly doubt OP's tractor run was through Charing Cross.

Thing is, because I am selfish and entitled, I don't care if you see me as a problem or not

Oh, I know you don't.
Selfish people don't tend to care much about others.
That doesn't mean other folk don't think you're being selfish. 🤢🤢🤢

It's a problem for most people with any level of understanding regarding the effects of smoking.

Just telling you how you are coming across, neither am I, I’m just not quite as ‘worked up’ as you 🤭 have a stinky fag and calm those nerves

I'm a smoker. I didn't think you could smoke at outdoor seating in cafes. I thought that if there wasn't a designated area, you couldn't smoke. You never see ashtrays on tables now. I wouldn't do it, people are eating.
I wouldn't smoke in a crowd, either. I am so used to moving away now, I am surprised it's not second nature to smokers.
Yes, I know it smells. I need to give up. I can go all day without smoking as I can't do it at work. I am surprised at how hard it is to give it up. When I have managed to give up for brief periods, I have felt so much better.
I smoke roll ups and always save my butts for the bin. I hate the habit, am embarrassed to admit I still do it, but try to not be THAT smoker whilst I still do.

Nicotine vaping salts got me off the cigs without even really trying. I was a smoker for a loooooong time and was dreading quitting but it really was quite easy. I had tried the older type vapes with no success at all, these salt liquids are amazing. I started at 20mg, now down to 11mg so next step is down to 5mg.
