To book Tenerife?

Fancied a cheap short break in November with my boyfriend. We looked and found a great deal for Tenerife. So we booked it.

Family are not happy given recent events with Jay Slater there.

I have been to Tenerife 3 times before, we are staying in a quieter resort in Puerto de la Cruz and I have tried to ease their minds by saying there is no need to worry as we won't be up any mountains, getting involved in drugs or staying in the party resort.

We plan to chill out most of the time and maybe go to the zoo.

AIBU to book a holiday here?

Er, have they been to Tenerife?

Brendabigbaps · 21/07/2024 12:16

OP, yabu to say you won’t go up the mountain (volcanos) it’s the best bit!!
Go on a guided tour, do a star gazing tour or one of the other trips that are available but def go up (unless your terrified of heights)

HelpMeGetThrough · 21/07/2024 12:18

Would they rule out Cornwall because people get swept out to sea and drown?

To be fair, the weather is so shit down here, everyone stays in.

diktat · 21/07/2024 12:18

You don’t even need a guided tour to go up Mount Teide. Just park up and buy a ticket for the cable car.

You’re just trying to keep tourists away 😂

We had a lovely day at Porthcurno beach, even with the crashing waves.

Poppysmom22 · 21/07/2024 12:19

Tbh I wouldn’t go back there and it was one of my favourite places. While we (me & dh)were waiting for our early morning transfer to the airport two men tried to ‘herd’ us now maybe they were going to rob us maybe they were drunk and being loons but either way we legged it back to the hotel and I will never go back there I was so frightened. This was in puerto de la Cruze right on the promenade so not like we were down a dodgy back alley

FortyFacedFuckers · 21/07/2024 12:21

I am also going to Tenerife in November but clearly no one in my family cares about me 🤣

I've done volcano trips in Lanzarote and they were great 😊

Just been there, done that, and don't feel a need to do it this time as only there for 4 nights

Like a pp, I assumed that this was going to be about the tourism protests.

I think it's bizarre for your family to worry because of recent tragic accident that could have happened virtually anywhere.

It sounds like the whole family including the OP are being pretty bizarre.

Lostinbrum · 21/07/2024 12:25

I thought this would be because of the anti tourist protests. When we were looking at a holiday I woukdnt even look at Tenerife. If they are not wanting tourists then fine. I won't go and give them my money then

Gingercatlover · 21/07/2024 12:27

Seriously! They need to get a grip, anything could happen at any time that you leave the house tbh.

Badgerstmary · 21/07/2024 12:27

I’m just coming back from Puerto today & have had an amazing time. Enjoy!

PaleSunshineOfHope · 21/07/2024 12:28

Ask your family to assist you by researching potential holiday destinations where nobody has ever died. That should keep them busy and out of your hair.

AzureAnt · 21/07/2024 12:37

Unless you intend to go to a rave , go off with random blokes you've never met, then attempt to walk back though unforgiving terrain, I feel you will probably be perfectly fine

Getonwitit · 21/07/2024 12:50

You are 31 why are you even giving this head space? Your family are being bloody ridiculous.

NowIam35 · 21/07/2024 12:52

This has to be a wind up or sarcasm..or just stupidity. 😂
No one can actually question going on holiday because of Jay Slater.

Isthisreasonable · 21/07/2024 12:56

Are you a petty criminal? Do you have less sense than you were born with?

No? Then there's no problem.

CeeJay81 · 21/07/2024 12:58

We are off to Tenerife in December and looking forward to it. Jay Slater was an irresponsible teenager, who made some daft decisions. It was nothing to do with Tenerife, so they are indeed being ridiculous.

You aren't actually laughing at the death of a teenager are you?

No, I have travelled to 3 other places in the last year and I have not heard a thing! It only seems to be this one in which I think the fear mongering in the media has a lot to answer for

I'm not sure I saw any fear mongering in the media regarding Tenerife being an unsafe holiday destination. What media are your family reading?

ThatPeachSnake · 21/07/2024 13:14

This can’t be real 🫠

No, not the media, just your family I think.

longdistanceclaraclara · 21/07/2024 13:26

What do you thinks going to happen? You'll fall off a cliff?

The Daily Fail did (of course they did).

They had photographs of people that went missing in Tenerife and other holiday spots, making out there is something dodgy.

They were pushing it, as a couple of people were from the 80s and 90s.
