To book Tenerife?

Fancied a cheap short break in November with my boyfriend. We looked and found a great deal for Tenerife. So we booked it.

Family are not happy given recent events with Jay Slater there.

I have been to Tenerife 3 times before, we are staying in a quieter resort in Puerto de la Cruz and I have tried to ease their minds by saying there is no need to worry as we won't be up any mountains, getting involved in drugs or staying in the party resort.

We plan to chill out most of the time and maybe go to the zoo.

AIBU to book a holiday here?

I would think twice about going to Tenerife, but that is just because they don't seem to want our money anymore. Although I do feel sorry for any Spanish locals - throughout any region of Spain -where they depend on holiday makers to help them earn their livings, and who therefore actually appreciate the tourists being there.

In the past I have lived in two English seaside towns (not at the same time!) and neither my husband's or my income depended on tourists. I am sure some of the towns people were not too keen on us being overrun by tourists for several months of the year, but none of our neighbours, friends or work colleagues ever mentioned being fed-up or annoyed by them - presumably because we knew of their worth to the lifeblood of our then town.

The only exasperating thing that I can think of that far too many of the tourists did - in both towns - even those with young children, was that whilst on holiday they seemed to lose almost all road sense! I, and many others, have seen them walk off pavements onto the road - without paying much, if any, attention to what they were doing - they would often then walk along the road, and I twice saw families have very close calls with double decker buses (admittedly I never saw anyone behave like that on the main roads, or on really traffic heavy roads).

Luckily most locals knew that in the summer months they had to be extra careful on the back roads and especially the roads closer to the beach and the guest houses. I used to be happy to see the grockles again at the start of summer - for several reasons - and glad again at the end of the summer, when they went home again!

We went to the North of the island - totally different vibe, it was lovely.

If you are not allowed to go anywhere that a young man has died as a result of reckless behaviour you will not be leaving your house.

Nothing wrong with tenerife but be prepared for rain in the north, that's why it's so green. If you want guaranteed sun I'd head to the south...Adeje for me

I Thu k so many people don't watch/read actual real news and so don't understand so many of the things that are going on all over the place. Then when something happens that does filter down to them they are aghast.

Your family are bonkers 😂

It’s even odder that a 31 year old adult posts this sort of thread. Anyone would think you wanted to create a bit of a goady thread about a dead teenager 😏

We're going to Tenerife next week and we are in no danger of going the same way as JS unless we decide to go walking in the mountains alone, which is highly unlikely. Book it
