To not understand why my mum ( or anyone ) needs to sunbathe topless ?

I'm staying with mum and my two kids at a holiday cottage. It's private so no one can see, but I still don't get why she or anyone feels the need to sunbathe topless ? I would just never do it and it makes me a bit uncomfortable to be around people who sunbathe topless.

I get it I get it, not everyone is like me.

But why do your boobs need to be brown ?

She also insists on wearing a bikini at almost 70. Ok fine, I don't wear a bikini and I'm not even 40 yet. I do think, good for you but I do think one pieces are just more classy. Same with having everything on display.

I realise I sound mean spirited don't I ? Or just uptight ? But isn't more, less and more classy in general ? Interested in opinions !

She raised me so I'm surprised I am not more on display myself but I'm pretty private about my body and always have been.

I don’t wear a bikini because I’m fat but if I wasn’t I definitely would. It’s so much easier to go to the loo.

I don’t care of people tan topless as long as they don’t do it by me, even if they’re great boobs. 😂

Her body, her values.

You have different tastes, and that's fine. But no one needs to cater to them when it's their own body.

Mumsnet is weird and I’m sure a lot of posters have never been to a beach /hot resort. I’m current in Cyprus. The sun beds are full of ladies of all sizes, wearing bikinis. Infact the odd one wearing a full swimsuit look hot and out of place. When the ladies walk to the toilet or bar they all wear lovely cover ups. Unlike the majority of men who have male privilege and walk around with gut and moobs hanging out including getting on the bus. Perhaps the media needs to focus on men getting the beach body rather than us ladies.

I agree with men toning up the ugly beer belly!

Especially England football fans.

Because tan lines are awful!

BluesBird19764 · 25/07/2024 12:14

its skin, that’s all. If you don’t want to see it, don’t look fgs. This sounds like a you problem, good on your mum.

I love sunbathing topless. Just like it.

If you do not like it, or if it makes you uncomfortable-- then do not do it, and do not look at women who are doing it.

Problem solved.

It's probably just a case of feeling less restricted, than wanting tanned boobs. Some people don't like having tan lines. She's sunbathing in private within the grounds of the cottage. She's not on the beach, with her boobs out. I don't sunbathe topless, but being big busted, my boobs aren't something that can be missed clothed, and I wouldn't want to draw unnecessary attention to myself, by sunbathing topless on the beach. As for wearing a bikini, that's her choice. I'm nearly 50 and I wear a bikini, my figure may not be model material these days, but I'm comfortable in my own skin. Good on your Mum!

People take off their tops to avoid tan lines don’t they? I mean, I don’t, but I sit in the shade. Nowt wrong with it, we’ve all got ‘em.

Leanmeansmitingmachine · 29/07/2024 17:22

No tan is a healthy tan.

Sunbathing topless is fabulous. You should try it. It’s liberating. I hate the way women are shamed into covering themselves yet a man would look like a loon if he had a bikini top on. Your mum sounds quite progressive.
honestly, find a private spot in your garden and take your top off, whatever you feel, you’ll feel something!!

thursdaymurderclub · 29/07/2024 17:32

i love sunbathing topless... but only do it in secluded spots! people don't need too, they want too and you shouldnt be shaming your mum for having the confidence to do so.

Going topless was very classy back in the day (80's) . The wealthy including the Royals always used to. Part of the European aesthetic.
It was fab. Men never dare ogle you on the beach because that wasn't cool.

Sad that everything is so sexualised these days. I blame religion and men.

oh i dunno... i like to see a nice pair of breasts 😉.

I don't want to see my mum or dad's leathery tits thanks. I wouldn't inflict that on my children or future's grandchildren. I still have flashbacks of my parents dangly bits thinking it's ok to walk around nude when I was a child.

Jumpingthruhoops · 29/07/2024 21:18

Blimey! So much judgement in one post.

I'm guessing, since they're her boobs, she's doing what she wants with them. It's not really for you to question.

I also suspect your sniffy, ageist attitude towards older women in bikinis says a lot more about how you feel about yourself than them.

For the record, I'm 45... I still wear bikinis on holiday and I frankly look better in them now than I ever did in my 20s. And I'm very 'classy' thanks!
