TEACHERS! What do they want?!

What can I get? I'm also buying for the office staff and after school club. I'm thinking Costa vouchers but lots of them with small amounts on? Or a few bigger amounts they can share out? Or something else. I've seen teachers moaning on here about the 'tat' they get so I want to get something usable and decent. A very small, lovely school and I want to show my appreciation.

Please, write a card with something personal inside- a thank you for something specific they have done or a memory or something.

Low cost but so much more meaningful than any Costa voucher, bunch of flowers or pen.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 18/07/2024 22:54

Write to the Head/Governors/Trust Exec to sing the praises of the teacher. That would be amazing.

Milkandtwosugarsplease · 18/07/2024 22:54

The personal messages are the best, chocolate always goes down well too.

My daughter is making cards from scratch (her choice) and I plan to write a couple of cards too - to the head teacher prasing particular staff and the office staff (they've been particularly supportive)

How do I find the details of how to do that? Thanks

I've never been a primary teacher but when I get lovely card from parents or kids I really appreciate it. I'm always grateful for gifts but words mean more. I don't think parents should feel the need to spend money.

Ioverslept · 18/07/2024 22:58

Handwritten card nd if tou want to add something, a small consumable token of appreciation (chocolate, biscuits, tea, stationery). The card will be the maim thing they appreciate really!

TheKeatingFive · 18/07/2024 22:59

A voucher for M&S or JL or similar

BeautifulLyrics · 18/07/2024 22:59

My teacher friends always really appreciate food (not home made), wine, vouchers and equipment for their classrooms,

The contact details should be in the school website or ask the office?

ElizabethVonArnim · 18/07/2024 23:01

To get a message to the chair of governors, check the governors list on the school website (there will be one - use the search bar, because its probably not a much-visited bit of the website and might be hard to find but it's statutory information so will be there somewhere). You only really need the name as you can hand it in care of the school.

I imagine you don't have time for it now, but for the volunteer leaders at St John Ambulance, which my son has just left, I got a pack of little notebooks and lettered THANK YOU on the front of each, and he then decorated further with stickers. Always useful to have a notebook but this way it's a nice reminder of the fact that someone appreciates your effort. I've never bothered with gifts for teachers (both my parents, teachers, came home with tat they didn't want every year - appreciated the thought but not the execution) but I have on occasion written an email or a card if they've done something particularly special.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 18/07/2024 23:06

Wine, chocolate, flowers, thank you notes, mugs, pencils, pencil cases... It's all welcome here because it's the thought that matters and the idea behind it being that the child and their parents have appreciated the effort put into teaching said child. That's the important bit.

KnickerlessParsons · 18/07/2024 23:11

You'd be wasting your money if you bought me a Costa voucher.
I think the letter to the head/governors is a good idea. If you email you could cc the teacher.

Stardustmoon · 18/07/2024 23:14

I love a Costa card. Always a nice thing to do in the summer- iced latte and a cake.

echt · 18/07/2024 23:14

Definitely a message that goes to the HT or governors. I'm retired now but over the years was always pleased when an email came through from the Principal saying what a parent had said.

To personalise it, write it all in a card to the teacher.

Purplepepsi · 18/07/2024 23:15

I took a massive bag of individually wrapped bars for the staff room. We had a hamper with tea / coffee / hot chocolate/ fruit tea for the staff room that was lovely.

I'm a primary teacher this week I got the most beautiful handmade coaster; lad knows I'm a huge glitter fan and it sure was glittery!!! The only thing was - bless him - he'd personalised it with my name and got my title wrong (I'm a married Ms) so it's more my mum's than mine!!!
Thought that counts and it was super thoughtful ❤️

Stardustmoon · 18/07/2024 23:16

P.s £5 is more than enough. I also love a homemade card or a bunch of tulips. One parent wrote a lovely email about me to the head and that was amazing. I've kept it as it meant a lot.

Ohthatsjustalotofeffort · 18/07/2024 23:17

Wine - that is all 🤣

noblegiraffe · 18/07/2024 23:33

For the holidays to finally get here....

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 18/07/2024 23:42

A child-free day more that about once a year (no chance!!) 😀

Ebeneser · 19/07/2024 00:01

Absolutely nothing.

user1499128287 · 19/07/2024 02:04

I want your child to have manners and behave appropriately and with respect. That's all.
