TEACHERS! What do they want?!

What can I get? I'm also buying for the office staff and after school club. I'm thinking Costa vouchers but lots of them with small amounts on? Or a few bigger amounts they can share out? Or something else. I've seen teachers moaning on here about the 'tat' they get so I want to get something usable and decent. A very small, lovely school and I want to show my appreciation.

After thirty years I still have cards written in appreciation from parents.

Purplebunnie · 19/07/2024 10:42

As a school receptionist I got some homemade cookies once. They weren't particularly nice but the best thing was how excited the ladies son was that his mum had made me something. Worth more than any voucher to me

Just about to have a Mastectomy for cancer. I loved that campaign. Do not speak for me and others

I will speak for the hundreds I know who wanted to storm a costa shop and demonstrate against this foul advert. Vile, foul picture. You have not even had a mastectomy yet. After, you might not "love" this depiction of it. If you can wave your arms above your head after - good for you. Some people can. Many people cant and never will again. I have been in pain every time I have moved that arm for many years now

I think it's a great advert. I'm sorry for you that you have suffered after your mastectomy, but it's not transmen's fault.

Baddaybigcloud · 19/07/2024 11:26

Got the teacher and teaching assistant a nice bottle of gin each and a big bag of chocolates for all the staff for the staff room. With cards too.
No you don’t have to buy anything but if you are happy with the teachers I like to give them something nice and if they don’t like it is easy for them to gift on! These are people that spend the most time teaching, caring and nurturing my kids other than myself and my husband - and I am forever grateful of that. Would be different if they had a rubbish teacher but haven’t had that (yet!)

and I know of at least one teen age girl who has had her own breasts removed after seeing this, and is now left disabled and in pain too - this advert is sickening - selling a painful and disabling operation as a "life style choice"

Take a day off.

disgusting, and I know a teacher who ws given a costa voucher who spent the money in the shop and poured the drink on the floor, and asked the workers there to explain to their bosses why.

Cool story bro.

Teachers don't hate Costa vouchers. The overwhelming majority,.like 99.9% of people, have no problem with trans people being visible in advertising.

I'm sorry but you sound a bit mad.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 19/07/2024 11:42

Probably too late for you now but my daughter made a card and i bought some treat bits from M&S, a chocolate medal, big bar of the nice chocolate and some chocolate chip cookies (i know her teacher likes chocolate!)

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 19/07/2024 11:43

This year was my son's first year of secondary school, and i bought gifts for 2 particular teachers who have been incredibly supportive and encouraging.

I wrote a wee personalised message on a card for them, too.

One is teetotal (i asked), so i bought her a nice bouquet of flowers - which she loved. 💐
And a bottle of Prosecco for the other teacher - which she also loved. 🍾

Completely agree. I find @confusedaunt's diktat that we should all be devastated and avoid Costa forever far more upsetting and insensitive than the ad. Can't believe what I've just read, to be honest.

Best of luck and warm thoughts being sent to you, for your treatment, Maddy 💐

WinterNightStars · 19/07/2024 11:44

My daughters a primary teacher & really loves a card with a personal message.

Onemoreterm · 19/07/2024 11:45

At our school one of the year 11 mums organised a collection so that every teacher got a £20 voucher. That went down very well in the staff room.

the premise being that every teacher had taught that group of students at some stage.

Wumblewimble · 19/07/2024 11:47

M and S voucher. Nobody wants a loads of stationery or mugs

Josie234 · 19/07/2024 11:49

A house plant. Can be taken home or become a beautiful addition to the classroom that everyone can share.

SuffolkUnicorn · 19/07/2024 11:56

I’ve just been down to the school office with lots of cakes/biscuits and flavoured coffees poor woman burst into tears and told me how lovely I am and that they never get anything.

Blimey. It's a school office, not a refugee camp.

I didn't buy anything. I said thanks. All this consumerism is stupid.

Bitter then.

Collexifon · 19/07/2024 12:08

Bitter 😆

I've had 4 go through all different types of schools. Dcs have had some amazing teachers who I thanked. If that's not enough then that's their issue.

TaylorSwish · 19/07/2024 12:08

Just to say (not being negative) that if you can’t afford anything don’t feel bad. My friend who is a teacher said she would hate for anyone to spend money on anything even £2 chocolates when they can’t afford it.

3rdtimeinflorida · 19/07/2024 12:16

Not had chance to read all the messages so apologies if this has already been said but please don’t forget the teaching assistants who are on a lot less than teachers, work just as hard and in most cases probably know your child more then the teacher. A handmade card with a lovely message in can be just as important. Just a thought x

WestminsterCrimes · 19/07/2024 12:23

My best presents have been:

Hand written / handmade cards
John Lewis, M&S, Amazon Vouchers
Swiss chocolates I could never afford for myself

other non consumable gifts are sweet and much appreciated but often end up in the charity shop pile eventually as I don't have much space
