To stop buying Fevertree tonic over their sponsorship of the US Republican Conference?

I don’t want the money I pay to Fevertree to go to the guys who are positioning the U.K. as an enemy by saying stuff like “the U.K. is the first Islamist state with nuclear weapons”

And the guys who want to roll back women’s rights.

I’ll cheerfully drink Schweppes bitter lemon with my gin if it comes to it.

Fevertree are dead to me now. Some of those NAT-C loons are frightening.

Why would you be unreasonable. You can do what you want.

Isn’t it a bit disingenuous to say it’s not a Nat Con event it’s a Republican event when the guy whose comments I referred to (J.D Vance) is the Republican candidate for the Vice Presidency and he said the comments about our country at a National Conservativism event which probably wasn’t full of Democrats was it? 😀

Not as disingenuous as referring to national conservatives as nat-c's.

The Republicans are a political party; national conservatism is a movement.

To those wondering why a UK business is wanting to sell their products in foreign markets and (perish the thought) make money. The US is now Fever Tree’s largest market, according to this article. They reiterate they weren’t sponsoring any political party, or event.

Fever Tree tonic range

Fever-Tree denies sponsoring Republican National Convention

The brand's logo appeared on a list of partners on the website of the event's organiser

Can we slander a non-British brand without evidence?

‘Slander’??? How is it slander if they choose to sponsor and/or supply drinks to a political party or event? Its entirely their call how they want to market themselves.
if they think the Republicans or Reform or similar hit their demographic or will just bring them load of £€$ then that’s their call. .

When we have a village fete you don’t get on the list of partners unless you have donated to the cause usually.

How your village fete works is irrelevant. How far are you taking this op, are you also boycotting Starbucks and any company in the UK who uses Fiserv - Lloyd's and Tesco, for instance, or are you just swapping Fever Free for Schweppes?

Is it?

We went to a village fete nearby last weekend and out of all the suppliers only some are promoted in the programme as partners and sponsors etc.

Fever Tree are donating product as far as I can see.

I wonder if there was a particular reason that Fever Tree was selected or singled out from that list? For doing what drinks companies do, supplying clients at their venues with their products. And, judging by this thread, by people who have no problem with a company such as Coca Cola et al. I won’t mention the lack of condemnation for child/forced labour if they are on lithium battery tech doing all this ‘interneting’ (well, they are saying they particularly boycott the things they don’t approve of).

I also see that sponsor is being muddled with ‘and/or supplier’ now. If you buy from Tesco or Aldi online, you’re using another name from that list. In fact, maybe much more than Fever Tree, as they do digital banking and seem to have many businesses, the public sector, and banks as clients. Therefore, might be more inconvenient and even a right old hassle.

I suspect there is no personal cost/sacrifice whatsoever to this action re Fever Tree. And, better still, you can act like you deserve a halo at no personal cost/ sacrifice. Even if there doesn’t even seem to be any real evidence that Fever Tree sponsored the event(s), though, and they have denied this.

As I said (and we don’t live in an authoritarian state yet, thank goodness), everyone has a right to boycott anything they want, for any reason. Everyone also has a right to comment on any particular opinion/stance (which appears to be without evidence in this case).

Teddleshon · 20/07/2024 17:13

Your Village Fete? You cannot be serious. Fever Tree have clearly stated they were a supplier not a sponsor.

Again, you are basing your argument on your village fete when Fever Tree say they are not sponsoring. Chucking a few free tonics is hardly going to ensure Trump is president - Biden is doing that job. Boycotting is anti democratic, I hate the Trump anti feminist ideology much as the next women, but I hate those who stand in the way of democracy even more.
