To stop buying Fevertree tonic over their sponsorship of the US Republican Conference?

I don’t want the money I pay to Fevertree to go to the guys who are positioning the U.K. as an enemy by saying stuff like “the U.K. is the first Islamist state with nuclear weapons”

And the guys who want to roll back women’s rights.

I’ll cheerfully drink Schweppes bitter lemon with my gin if it comes to it.

Fevertree are dead to me now. Some of those NAT-C loons are frightening.

I think boycotting big brands is pointless but you do what makes you feel better.

Fevertree elderflower tonic is and will continue to be my drink of choice.

Doesn’t mean I don’t think their stance is reprehensible.

It’s not pointless, it’s marketing. You might not be highly influenced but others are and that impacts marketing decisions. It’s like saying voting is pointless, which it is, unless we’re talking about everyone, which we are.

Thanks for the heads up. I certainly won’t buy their product again.

Same! Back to Schweppes for me too.

Teddleshon · 17/07/2024 18:49

@RationalityIsHard and I’m equally entitled to my view that it is unreasonable and irrational to suggest a boycott of a product on the basis that companies should vet their potential customers’ political views before agreeing to supply it.

Mercurial123 · 17/07/2024 18:50

iamtheblcksheep · 17/07/2024 18:43

Nope. I’m alright Jack. I get up off my arse every day, run my business, pay my employees a living wage and have made sure I have private health insurance. You know that taking responsibility for myself thing.

My money is kept well out of Starmers grubby paws and I’ll use every legal route possible to make sure it stays that way.

It wasn’t too many years ago I was on my arse. I give a LOT of money away and help a lot of people but I will choose where MY money goes.

Edited

You're so angry 😆

Gorgonemilezola · 17/07/2024 18:52

What does 'partner' mean in this context? Have Fevertree given the event free tonic? Wetee Fevertree aware of the posters? I'd like to know a wee bit more before rushing off to the fridge and pouring the tonic down the plughole.

Meadowfinch · 17/07/2024 18:55

Well, that's enough for me to stop buying their tonic.

Are they mad?

verdantverdure · 17/07/2024 18:55

Catnipcupcakes · 17/07/2024 17:59

I hadn’t noticed that.

You’re as bad as the thing you’re complaining about OP, and you know it, or you wouldn’t be trying to get it under the rador by spelling it that way.

Isn’t it what the National Conservatives call themselves?

@Gorgonemilezola Fever Tree have stated that they are simply a supplier. No doubt there was a discount involved, obviously completely normal commercial practice for an event of this size.

Meadowfinch · 17/07/2024 19:01

Louloulouenna · 17/07/2024 18:39

Partner = Supplier.

No, partner means a company that has paid for the privilege of having the conference carry their product rather than any other.

That's sponsorship.

WhiskersPete · 17/07/2024 19:02

Schweppes is owned by Coca Cola who are an awful company. There's no point boycotting one unethical brand and then going straight to another.

Longdueachange · 17/07/2024 19:06

Is this because you read something on Twitter? Please don't slander a British brand without providing valid evidence.

Cailleach1 · 17/07/2024 19:07

They have said they have not sponsored the event. I suppose participants may have used iPads, or Macs. I wonder if offended posters will eschew their technology products on that coincidence? I’d wager not.

However, I am now curious as to the taste of Fevertree. A poster has said they use quinine, and I see they add no artificial sweeteners, flavourings or preservatives. I like a good bitter lemon.

Thankfully everyone can boycott, or shun a commercial product if they wish (and if there are alternatives for necessary items). For any reason. One thing that lies on me a little is that there are parts in technology that may have come from child or practically slave labour. Like you all, I am still on the computer/phone and the internet. I do feel guilty, but obviously like you all, still prioritise my computer/ internet access over possible child/forced labour.

Maybe I’ll boycott an item that is less important/ gives no real hardship to me instead. A tea/biscuit or other drink. And, make a big thing of it, as if it is a huge sacrifice.

Applepencilplant · 17/07/2024 19:08

Definitely. Its appalling.

Louloulouenna · 17/07/2024 18:11

It should be obvious to anyone who actually heard J D Vance’s comment re Britain that he was joking.

It was obvious to me. I thought it was funny.

Teddleshon · 17/07/2024 19:10

@Meadowfinch that’s not what Fevertree has said. You can’t seriously believe that Starbucks are “sponsoring” the RNC. Or Visit Milwaukee for that matter or most of the other “partners”.

Starbucks has made it clear they are providing coffee and drinks to first responders and that they will do the same for the Democrat National Convention in August. Shock horror, a commercial enterprise supplying its products irrespective of customers’ political opinions, whatever next.

Gorgonemilezola · 17/07/2024 19:10

Teddleshon · 17/07/2024 18:59

@Gorgonemilezola Fever Tree have stated that they are simply a supplier. No doubt there was a discount involved, obviously completely normal commercial practice for an event of this size.

So no good reason to boycott a small British company, no doubt employing quite a few people, for something that didn't actually happen?

Whenwillitgetwarm · 17/07/2024 19:11

The Silicon Valley tech giants are all backing Trump as they believe he will prevent any billionaire wealth taxes and will reduce workers rights. I cannot believe ‘the little guy’ thinks he’s on their side.

I will avoid Fever Tree. Clearly they stand with the removal of abortion rights, and Trumps VP, Vance who once said that married women should be barred from the workforce.

Trump is a genuine threat. He has openly declared he wants to end democracy. His biggest backer, the billionaire Peter Thiel (who Vance used to work for) has also stated he believe democracy should end. Theil has also bought citizenship in New Zealand in anticipation of a civil war in America. These are very dangerous people.

Silicon Valley wants unfettered control of the tech market. That’s why it’s cosying up to Trump | Evgeny Morozov

I can highly recommend Marlish Water tonic as an alternative.

TheHuntSyndicate · 17/07/2024 19:20

We boycott any company that is woke or openly left wing biased.

Regardless of your political position be it left or right, it's good to show large corporations that they would be better off being neutral if they want to please all of their customers.

FKAT · 17/07/2024 19:21

You don't have to buy any product or brand.
Any product or brand can sponsor who they like and people can make choices on that. Tonic water isn't a necessity.
Not sure what the point of this post is tbh.

Gorgonemilezola · 17/07/2024 19:24

'The Silicon Valley tech giants are all backing Trump as they believe he will prevent any billionaire wealth taxes and will reduce workers rights. I cannot believe ‘the little guy’ thinks he’s on their side.'

So are you boycotting Google, Apple, Microsoft?

Or just picking on a small company who's products you don't really use?

GrumpyPanda · 17/07/2024 19:26

iamtheblcksheep · 17/07/2024 18:01

Your choice. I’ve been boycotting woke liberal companies that have little regard for women’s rights for many years.

The problem you have is companies are waking up to the fact that the conservative dollar is worth far more than that of the work shy left.

Your do realise that the way American fiscal federalism works it's the blue democratic states subsidizing red states, right? Funny how the "workshy" are so much more productive.

Louloulouenna · 17/07/2024 19:47

@GrumpyPanda Do you not see a connection between the decimation of traditional industry and the rise of MAGA?

As a huge range of businesses have demonstrated (from Disney to Target, Bud Light and many more) embracing the more extreme “woke” tenets doesn’t tend to do much for the bottom line.

JethroTullandhishorse · 17/07/2024 19:54

Well, the owner is an odious piece of shit, so no surprises.
