To stop buying Fevertree tonic over their sponsorship of the US Republican Conference?

I don’t want the money I pay to Fevertree to go to the guys who are positioning the U.K. as an enemy by saying stuff like “the U.K. is the first Islamist state with nuclear weapons”

And the guys who want to roll back women’s rights.

I’ll cheerfully drink Schweppes bitter lemon with my gin if it comes to it.

Fevertree are dead to me now. Some of those NAT-C loons are frightening.

Thanks for the boycott list, adding to my list I’m boycotting for Palestine.

iamtheblcksheep · 17/07/2024 18:01

Your choice. I’ve been boycotting woke liberal companies that have little regard for women’s rights for many years.

The problem you have is companies are waking up to the fact that the conservative dollar is worth far more than that of the work shy left.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 17/07/2024 17:54

Starbucks are sponsoring as well

Everyone should already be boycotting that tax dodging company

TheKeatingFive · 17/07/2024 18:04

Well no one's forcing you to buy it. Do what you like.

CowTown · 17/07/2024 18:05

YANBU. And thanks for the heads up, I wasn’t aware that they’re GOP sponsors. I’ll put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.

Teddleshon · 17/07/2024 18:06

Don’t be ridiculous. It’s a democracy and drinks companies should be free to sell their products to whoever they like, as long as they are acting within the law.

Callalllaaammma · 17/07/2024 18:06

I don't think a bad joke said by one Republican should stop you buying your favourate drink but I am against cancel culture and boycotts.
50% of Americans are Republicans, Starbucks and Facebook and others also sponsored the event are you also going to boycott them as well?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/07/2024 18:07

I feel for whoever's responding on X. They appear to have been taken totally by surprise. I wonder if the RNC media have overstepped by describing suppliers as partners?

Starbucks are as liberal as they come. Even the wokest of the woke value cold hard cash over bat shit ideology.

Hilarious

Someone feeling sad about the election result?!

It should be obvious to anyone who actually heard J D Vance’s comment re Britain that he was joking.

Createausername1970 · 17/07/2024 18:13

Fair enough. I don't buy Nestle because of the baby milk scandal.

EricHebbornInItaly · 17/07/2024 18:13

@iamtheblcksheep hilarious 🤣 Workshy left indeed. The left I know in my circle all work and also volunteer for the benefit of the local community (me included). My Brexit voting Trump loving inlaws didn’t work half as hard and don’t lift a finger for anyone but themselves.

He may have been attempting to make a joke, but it was ill-advised.

Thanks for the heads up. I certainly won’t buy their product again.

Don’t be ridiculous. It’s a democracy and drinks companies should be free to sell their products to whoever they like, as long as they are acting within the law.

But OP isn't suggesting they not be allowed.

The reason companies sponsor events is partly due to the publicity/increased name recognition etc, which they hope will be positive.
If someone finds it negative, that's perfectly fine. And they're entitled to not buy a brand because of it.

Teddleshon · 17/07/2024 18:25

They’re not sponsoring the event, their products are simply on sale there. How is it reasonable to suggest a boycott of a product simply on the basis that it is being sold at a particular event? Should commercial companies vet the political views of all their customers to check whether they’re “acceptable” before agreeing to supply them.

No doubt Donald Trump has an iPhone etc , on that basis should Apple be boycotted? Where on earth does it stop.

Soontobe60 · 17/07/2024 18:33

My Dh once carried out a blind tasting of tonic water. Fevertree, Schweppes and Tesco own brand.
All mixed with the same gin.
needless to say, I don’t waste my money anymore and only buy Tesco brand!

I think the fact they're described as "partners" suggests more than just the organisers went and bought some.
OP can make whatever decisions she wants based on that.

Louloulouenna · 17/07/2024 18:39

Partner = Supplier.

What wouldn't be reasonable would be not being able to suggest a boycott of any product you like for any reason you like (as long as that reason is either based on truth or on a genuinely held belief of course).

what is the point of this post apart from showing how self satisfied you are
and your husband being the arbiter of tonic water tasting, it’s bizarre -

Fevertree has quinine as a main ingredient

Tesco Schweppes and others have Aspartame and Saccharin as main ingredients

apart from the delightful taste, this is why we buy appreciate and enjoy Fever Tree
(on offer of course)

Someone feeling sad about the election result?!

Nope. I’m alright Jack. I get up off my arse every day, run my business, pay my employees a living wage and have made sure I have private health insurance. You know that taking responsibility for myself thing.

My money is kept well out of Starmers grubby paws and I’ll use every legal route possible to make sure it stays that way.

It wasn’t too many years ago I was on my arse. I give a LOT of money away and help a lot of people but I will choose where MY money goes.

hattie43 · 17/07/2024 18:47

What's the point of that .
