Royal Children - Time for State school?

Should the Royal Family children be educated in state schools? Why do they get to attend private schools on taxpayers money? Is this something the Labour government could push for?

Is it on taxpayers money? How do you know? The Royal Family is very wealthy thanks to the gig they have, but I’m not convinced that we pay for the kids’ schooling. How would the government “push” for this? Why would they? It would be as divisive as Brexit. There are better things for the government to concentrate on

It’s not on taxpayers money. It’s paid from their own income, which depends on which kids it is, where that income comes from/

I think some folks actually think we fund everything, from their knickers to their education and they are secretly skint.😂

There shouldn't be "royal" children at all. The UK should become a democracy.

Do you mean republic?

I’m sure the security bill would just skyrocket instead if they were in state school.

This

It is a democracy, I think the poster means republic.

I don’t think anyone should be agreeing with a word they don’t know the meaning of.

purser25 · 17/07/2024 16:30

I think that it is better if they don’t send their children to board at a very young age. Edward and Sophie didn’t.

CelesteCunningham · 17/07/2024 16:30

I don't agree with the idea of royalty or with private schools, but they're rich people. We're not paying the fees, they are and if other wealthy people are allowed spend on education then they should be allowed as well.

Buildingthefuture · 17/07/2024 16:30

Absolutely not. And we are a democracy.

AttackMeleys · 17/07/2024 16:31

Look, the arguments against having monarchy at all are separate to the question of whether the current royal children should be sent to state or private. They are independently wealthy but more relevantly, high profile children. They are a target, among many other considerations. While the system exists as it does, it is ridiculous to suggest they attend anything other than a small selection of private schools. I want the best for every child and that includes them. I'm also a realist so private school it is.

Also, edit to add mine to the voices reminding some daft pps - We ARE A Democracy 🤦‍♀️

The UK already IS a democracy FFS.

Did you sleep through the recent General Election?

Well said.

and very dismayed the people arguing against the royal family don’t even know what a democracy is, or that we live in one, or the difference between a democracy and a republic.

potionofmagic · 17/07/2024 16:33

Yes I think so and while you are at it lets just do away with the whole monarchy, its way past its sell by date. Also give these poor kids a normal life out of the public eye, much kinder and fairer too them. The whole royal family is a total circus in this day and age, I am embarrassed by the lot of them.

Dorisbonson · 17/07/2024 16:33

circular2478 · 17/07/2024 16:21

It would be nice to see them mixing with the pleb children. Maybe then there would be more money pumped into state schools.

That's not how education funding is determined. Exactly how do you believe funding decisions for schools are made?

Do you think Prince Philip was vetoing more funding for state schools for years? Or the Queen was pulling the strings behind the scenes?

You do know even in Soviet Russian the elite had very different schools, funded differently with different schemes of education and opportunities to the general mass of the population. If you close every single private school in the country it wouldn't improve state schools it would just mean those parents who know how to play the system would ensure their children went to the best schools.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 17/07/2024 16:33

Absolutely not!

You're also posting this without having experienced the state education system in the UK yourself as a child. Which doesn't exactly help your case!

Besides, I don't know why you think taxpayers pay for the Royals education, because it's not. The Prince and Princess of Wales are extremely wealthy, due to the Prince inheriting the Duchy of Cornwall. Even if the Royal family was abolished, they'd still have enough wealth for generations.

I do not begrudge a Royal child an excellent private school education, and I say that as a taxpayer (even though my taxes don't pay for their education). The state system, particularly in England is so shit, that I don't even send my own children to state school here. I home educate them instead.

The young Royal children are just adorable, and this post comes across in rather poor taste, begrudging them the wonderful education they're currently getting.

seagullible · 17/07/2024 16:34

Imagine having such strong feelings about the Royals but not even knowing the difference between democracy and republic. 😂😂 You couldn’t make it up.

I picture them looking like Trump, bright red in the face, fist in the air and shouting Fight! Fight! Fight!

Awa bile yer heid min.

oakleaffy · 17/07/2024 16:36

That will never happen.

Most families who can afford it opt for private schools
if not Public school.

State schools ain’t gonna cut it.

Sallyh87 · 17/07/2024 16:37

How would you see preventing people from spending their money however they want?

It would make more sense to say you don’t agree with the royal family at all. Or you don’t agree with private school.

I don’t really get the concept of the royal family but many people are keen on it, so I say why not.

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 17/07/2024 16:38

Allthehorsesintheworld · 17/07/2024 16:24

I agree. Abolish the monarchy and you get rid of the security issue. They’ll have no more value than Joe Bloggs in the street.

I assume this is a joke comment? Or are you just stupid? If the monarchy is abolished and we become a republic, do you seriously think that there would be no need for any security costs for the President and their children?!! The head of state and family would run the same risks of assassination, kidnap etc as the royals do now, and the state would fund security for them. So if you're concentrating on security costs it would make no difference.

pandasorous · 17/07/2024 16:39

so dumb
the cost of providing security in a state school setting would far surpass any costs saved by avoiding private school
not to mention they are paying for it, it's their choice where their kids go. taxpayers don't fund the royal family's personal expenses. they are extremely wealthy in their own right.

pandasorous · 17/07/2024 16:40

I'm a staunch republican but there is no point in this instance dismantling the royal family forcibly. they will be gone within a couple of generations anyway.

Janieforever · 17/07/2024 16:40

It just ironically shows the state of our education that people are on here who don’t know what a democracy is. Even though we have just been through an election and the democractic process mentioned thousands of times all over the media , they still dont understand the word.

SherbetSweeties · 17/07/2024 16:41

The tax payer would pay just as much keeping them safe in a state school. Also they have private wealth as well so probably pay for it themselves. I’m not sure though
