To be livid with work- I’ve been moved dept and given pay cut

TaylorNift · 16/07/2024 10:09

With no notice -as of next week they want me gone

no improvement plan or disciplinaries (but new manager)

My family circumstances (4 kids) have been challenging the last year which they’ve been accommodating with - they’ve said a move would be better for them/me as I have have children and the hours their will better support my needs.

I do NOT want to work there. I’m shaking and so angry the way this was done. I was completely side swiped.
can anyone advise?

Join your union, right now. It's good that the current situation has been resolved in your favour, but if your manager holds a grudge then you want to make sure that they've got your back if he causes problems further down the line.

Scarletttulips · 20/07/2024 10:17

Well done - glad to see a good outcome.

Let me guess, is he related to the new trainee?

Emelene · 20/07/2024 10:21

I’m so pleased for you OP! Great update, well done!

Hi @TaylorNift glad to read your update. You’ve got to be careful now as your managers are out to get you. Make sure your performance is on par and like others have said document everything that happens.

I imagine this new manager will get such a hefty wallop from HR, he won't dare to squeak, always supposing he remains Op's line manager.

It's widely accepted that childcare more usually falls to the women, so it would absolutely be regarded as sex discrimination. Had it gone to tribunal, it could have cost the company a fortune in compensation.

Motnight · 20/07/2024 10:48

Great news, Op!

LaurieFairyCake · 20/07/2024 10:53

Brilliant result 👋👋👋

Fantastic Mumsnet again with all the great advice SmileSmileSmile

JFDIYOLO · 20/07/2024 10:58

Great outcome!

Now. That manager will be out for your blood.

Document everything. Ensure your performance is impeccable.

If you haven't already, join a union and ensure they know what happened. There may be others this has happened to.

(Is it the NHS?)

Dayoldbag · 20/07/2024 11:02

Excellent suggestion to join a Union asap.

godmum56 · 20/07/2024 11:06

delighted to hear your news op. Your employer dodged a bullet there. They found out they had employed an idiot (your manager) before things got really bad. But yes, watch your back, document everything

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 20/07/2024 11:06

Livelovebehappy · 17/07/2024 08:32

Well we don’t know if that hasn’t been the case? A bit contradictory in OPs posts - on one hand saying work have been accommodating with issues, which suggests there may have been discussions, and then saying she isn’t aware that there have been problems. I suspect a lot hasn’t been shared on the post which doesn’t allow us to give appropriate advice really.

Well since the information isn't there then why give this advice at all? It's really bad.

I get that posters want to help (or mostly they do) but if they don't have knowledge of the subject it's really counterproductive and at worst it can sound as if the poster is enjoying the OP's troubles.

Fundays12 · 20/07/2024 11:53

I just read your update op. I am so glad that HR and the senior team sorted this out. Your new "manager" needs serious disciplinary action for this. I have worked in HR and am appalled and would be livid if a manager did this.

Tillievanilly · 20/07/2024 11:55

When my role was part of a restructure they gave us 2 years notice of pay down grade. I would speak/join a union or an employment solicitor may help.

Demonhunter · 20/07/2024 12:28

This manager sounds like a slippery one. I'd make sure anything discussed you get in writing and keep your own log of any interactions that make you uneasy, just for any future issues they try and cause.

Swiftie1878 · 20/07/2024 12:34

Often Home Insurance includes cover for legal advice in cases such as these. If your workplace doesn’t have an established Union, check your insurance policies out for future reference.

I cannot thank you enough

in short

I am not moving.

i suspect my new line manager is going to hate me for this. From what I’ve heard he is now facing a disciplinary because of how this was handled.

Not only did I engage with HR I took it to the regional manager (was so tempted to add ‘fucked off and getting legal) 😂

I am staying
I am on the same wage.
No PIP!

Yay! Go OP! 💪

Quite right. Well done OP.

I love reading these threads and there’s a happy ending. You were treated appallingly OP and I’m so glad you stood up for yourself. Your manager’s actions were unacceptable and it sounds like your HR dept think the same.

people always say don’t bother with HR, They are there to protect the business - but that includes dealing with situations like this could potentially end up with a £££ tribunal payment.

This advice is for anyone facing employment issues

Look at your Home Insurance policy as it usually comes as standard with most policies and if it doesn’t then next time you are renewing your home insurance policy, look for one with this cover as standard. You never know when it might be needed

Also make sure you document everything at work. I have had a couple of times where a manager has told me to do something and I have logged it only for them to come back even a year later and ask why I did something. It’s nice to immediately look up the date and have it displayed on screen or in notes exactly who said what, why and when

beanii · 20/07/2024 14:00

Contact ACAS - they're great.

TaylorNift · 20/07/2024 18:18

Casperroonie · 20/07/2024 07:07

Well done!!!
What I would suggest you do is log absolutely everything in a notebook and email it to yourself. You need a record for future as obviously they're shady.

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been told so I am going to diligently do this.

Oh my giddy Aunt. I've been so worried for you. I actually was feeling your pain reading what you were going through. Phew, I can breathe now. I'm so happy it's worked out! Well done ☺️
