To be livid with work- I’ve been moved dept and given pay cut

TaylorNift · 16/07/2024 10:09

With no notice -as of next week they want me gone

no improvement plan or disciplinaries (but new manager)

My family circumstances (4 kids) have been challenging the last year which they’ve been accommodating with - they’ve said a move would be better for them/me as I have have children and the hours their will better support my needs.

I do NOT want to work there. I’m shaking and so angry the way this was done. I was completely side swiped.
can anyone advise?

Well done!! Can I get a wooo woop?!

TaylorNift · 19/07/2024 20:25

I cannot thank you enough

in short

I am not moving.

i suspect my new line manager is going to hate me for this. From what I’ve heard he is now facing a disciplinary because of how this was handled.

Not only did I engage with HR I took it to the regional manager (was so tempted to add ‘fucked off and getting legal) 😂

I am staying
I am on the same wage.
No PIP!

Well done!!!
What I would suggest you do is log absolutely everything in a notebook and email it to yourself. You need a record for future as obviously they're shady.

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/07/2024 07:16

Was about to write a lengthy response to your op (HR person here). However I see it’s sorted - yay, Go You! Sounds like it was v badly handled - doubly weird in a large organisation with policies etc to follow, but these things happen. Keep an eye on things going forward - there will be two sides to this I’m sure and we only know what you have told us, but organisations need to follow their own policies and procedures and treat employees fairly - haven’t read the whole thread, but join the union if there is one and you haven’t already.

midnights92 · 20/07/2024 07:26

I am so pleased to see this! Well done for fighting your corner.

Suspect he's learnt his lesson but do keep documenting everything for a bit - he may use his telling off as a reason to now turn into a low level twat and you want the evidence.

it is refreshing to see a good outcome like this, OP.

Please please join a union or get some kind of legal insurance (do you have that in UK?) just in case.

I was told there was to be a restructure

I was told given your family circumstances we think a move to this dept would best suit you

by the way there’s a pay cut

same hours

Without knowing the full details, it's hard go advise, but feel there is far more to this, unless your employer is still living in the 70s.

Restructure should come with a form of consultation if there are redundancies (if business is making 20+ redundancies)

If your restructure is you being moved to a different dept, that depends on your contract.

If they force you into a new dept, and you can't comply due to childcare etc, then you need to tell them why. If they force the move then it's sex discrimination.

However like I said, I feel there is more to this so ACAS is your route

RadFs · 20/07/2024 07:38

Hi @TaylorNift glad to read your update. You’ve got to be careful now as your managers are out to get you. Make sure your performance is on par and like others have said document everything that happens.

bonzaitree · 20/07/2024 08:02

this is amazing OP well done.

Sorry to piss on your chips but you need to protect yourself now. This manager might be out for revenge now. Make sure everything he asks you to do is in writing. Lots of emails « following on from our conversation today you have asked me to do X by x date. » so you have an audit trail

PickledPurplePickle · 20/07/2024 08:12

Brilliant update, well done OP

PotNoodleNancy · 20/07/2024 08:24

Well done OP for not rolling over and letting your shitty manager win. 😇

As others have said, he’s proved himself to be a twat so definitely note any meetings or conversations going forward with a date. You can use a notes app on your phone, but do keep track just in case….you don’t want to be blindsided again.

He’ll either realise that you’re not a fool and to steer clear or he’ll be out for revenge. Keep your wits about you.

Have they then given you a payout so if you are made redundant in the future they have already paid you the difference between the higher and lower salary. Happened to me and was offered compensation.

Pipsquiggle · 20/07/2024 08:32

Great news @TaylorNift

You were treated poorly and they didn't follow process. Glad it's been resolved

Snugs10 · 20/07/2024 08:34

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/07/2024 11:00

Where was she discriminated against in the basis of sex?
On being a parent yes but that isn’t a protected characteristic.

I cannot believe they can just cut your pay though. Is your higher wage in your contract? Or was it made up of bonus/ overtime?

They can if you want agree and compensation is given happened to you during a restructure.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 20/07/2024 08:41

@TaylorNift - fantastic update, well done! I hope you come back here to read experienced people's suggestions as to how you might handle things from now on, to protect yourself. Good luck for the future!

Snugs10 · 20/07/2024 08:42

AvocadoDevil · 16/07/2024 11:43

It sounds like your role is being removed, you are being made redundant due to performance issues but your colleague who does the same role is not.

That’s not unusual, companies do make roles redundant in place of supporting staff to improve in their roles.

Then should be offered redundancy pay for the difference in salary

Well done! I don’t think they can change your terms of employment without your agreement, so I’m glad you stuck to your guns.

Dibbydoos · 20/07/2024 09:04

Glad your job situ is resolved. The new manager let power get to their head, what a d1k!

PurpleReindeer2 · 20/07/2024 09:05

Fab update OP. Well done x

Jetstream · 20/07/2024 09:07

The line manager could have got the company into deep trouble. Well done for sticking up for yourself.

Rosesanddaffs · 20/07/2024 09:19

@TaylorNift well done for not just accepting it, following it through and for holding it together xx

Dayoldbag · 20/07/2024 09:41

Great news.
Watch your back carefully though.
You may now have a target on your back, so document everything on the basis you may need to raise a grievance in the future.
"Hope for the best, prepare for the worst."

Lazydomestic · 20/07/2024 09:46

I suspect (hope) that they shouldn’t be your new line manager - bullying in the workplace comes under gross misconduct and is grounds for dismissal.

ChocAuVin · 20/07/2024 09:49

Well done OP.

skyeisthelimit · 20/07/2024 09:54

well done. If there are genuine issues with your performance then this needs to be dealt with properly, he can't just move you.

HaveAWordWithYerselfWouldYa · 20/07/2024 09:59

Excellent!

Yes, your manager will hate you. You have stood up to him, shown his behaviour to be wrong and you have done things correctly. Why would he show any respect for that 😂?

Well done 👌
