To have grudging respect for how Trump styled it out

I mean someone tried to murder him, he came very close to having died. He went through a terrifying experience and came out saying fight and raising his fist in defiance. I think he’s an odious man but despite that, I have to concede a nod to that.

Let’s face it, if this had happened to Obama and he’d responded in the same way we’d all be like ‘woah, he the man!’

Note. This is not a genuine AIBU. I’m confident in my position on this but know so many people have so polarized themselves that they would rather eat their own eyeballs than find any small compliment or recognition for someone they hate.

But you’re kind of in the minority? He’s way ahead in the polls in America, so there are many millions who do support him. You don’t have to understand why, just understand that people have different views to your own. It happens……

Are you voting to leave NATO?

Lolaandbehold · 14/07/2024 19:54

I agree OP. I also, gasp, agree with quite a few of his policies. I don’t mean that I don’t find him odious and I certainly wouldn’t vote for him, but in this polarised world, you’d be brandished all sorts of things for admitting that.

It did look pretty staged to be honest. And Trump looked almost like he was expecting it. He is not 'brave,' and he didn't 'style anything out.' 🙄 He got lucky (that's if it WAS real!) If it was staged it would be a bit wild though, as someone got killed!

Anyone who supports this man needs to take a really long hard look in the mirror. I see his supporters on TV, and feel terrified that these people exist. I also feel grateful that I have no-one like that in my life! (AND I feel grateful that I don't live in America.)

I do wonder if the Trump-worship is some kind of Stockholm Syndrome. I just literally don't know of one single normal person in real life who supports Trump. Clearly many do in America, but I don't know anyone outside of America who would even think of supporting him! That is why I feel there is some kind of Stockholm Syndrome at play here. Or even a kind of Religious Scrupulosity.

The man is hideous! 😖 In SO MANY WAYS!

No I didn’t say that. Read my post again to see what I said.

Yes you did. You said you had ‘grudging’ (yeah, right…) admiration for how he behaved you’ve reiterated that since.

Wellthats · 14/07/2024 19:54

I dont like him or anything he stands for but I have to say he dealt with it extremely well, I would call him brave because I’d have been terrified !!

Why do you insist I need to give him credit?

The more you post the more MAGA you sound.

are you a 13 year old boy?

No, that would be the Trump Fanboi on the thread.

Edited

I don’t insist you do anything.

Calling me MAGA just makes you sound deranged.

The young man who tried to assassinate him was shot down dead and he's 20.

Plus someone at the rally was killed

Dymaxion · 14/07/2024 19:56

It's because it was entirely staged. He knew he was in no danger.

@PurplePetalPip it isn't beyond the bounds of possibility that it wasn't entirely staged given the number of firearms in civilian hands in the US is it ? Just takes one person with a mental health issue to climb on a roof or walk into a school with their ridiculously powerful gun and things get messy quickly.

I very much doubt it seeing as someone died.

Livelovebehappy · 14/07/2024 19:57

paywalled · 14/07/2024 19:53

And I’ve just read he was a Republican!

State voter records show that he was a registered Republican, according to US media.
He is also reported to have donated $15 to liberal campaign group ActBlue in 2021.
According to US media reports, Crooks was wearing a T-shirt from Demolition Ranch, a YouTube channel known for its guns and demolition content. The channel has millions of subscribers featuring videos on different guns and explosive devices.

Edited

But…. there is also evidence that he has donated to the Democrats, and people are saying he registered as a Republican so that he could get access to Republican rallies if he wanted. Regardless, it’s been confirmed he is a democratic supporter.

Alltheyearround · 14/07/2024 19:57

pambeesleyhalpert · 14/07/2024 19:22

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he set it up himself

Those of you saying it was a set up, I'm just curious as to the mechanics. If it hadn't been for the turn of his head he would have been hit.

Risky strategy? I am no Trump fan but I just want to know how you think it could have been orchestrated without actual danger to him. It seems like a close call.

As well as those injured and killed, I do feel sorry for the shooter's family. He was only 20. They must be devastated.

Alltheyearround · 14/07/2024 19:58

What is MAGA?

Cityandmakeup · 14/07/2024 19:59

It’s scary that how people want him as president more based on this. I guess people really want to go to war?!

Corinthiana · 14/07/2024 19:59

Someone on another thread tried to lecture people on the adrenaline fight/flight thing (very badly). It possibly was adrenaline, he must have been in shock, but he certainly showed bravado - the fist raised above a blood streaked face.
I dislike Trump intensely. I hop Biden wins, but I fear he won't, and do wish he'd listen to George Clooney et al. Calling Zelensky "President Putin" wasn't an amusing faux pas. It was genuinely concerning.

Obama = nice man, terrible policies.
Trump = unpleasant man, good policies.

This is the conclusion I have come to also.

Look, I was explicitly clear in my later post about exactly what I respected. It’s a narrow and precise definition that does not cover what you accused me off. I am sorry, but don’t lay your comprehension difficulties at my door.

Way ahead, you say? It’s within margins of error. And I don’t understand why it’s that close - who would vote for a sexually abusive, lying, fraudster?

Has it been confirmed that he was a democrat the day he was killed ? or that he gave a small donation to a democratic charity three years ago ? Demolition ranch sounds like an interesting channel, bet they are thrilled to be linked to a would be assassin ?

The would be assassin was killed. So was a man in the crowd.

JudyJudeplusOne · 14/07/2024 20:01

Bakersdozens · 14/07/2024 18:32

He was running on adrenaline, and did everything wrong, showed no self control or training at all. He was sticking his head out without knowing how many snipers there were, or where they were! His guards were desperately trying to reign him in, but he was out of control. No sense, no self control, no response to training

No, I don't admire him. If there had been two shooters, he would have been killed. He is an idiot. Most people know it

I have to agree with this. You're deluded OP!

He will win the presidency based on this. I think he wants to be the one that solves the ‘Russian problem’ so he can boast he diverted WW3.

He loves Putin though- he wants Russia to win and NATO to collapse. I don't think many people realise Trump is a direct (not just indirect) risk to the UK as we depend on US for our nuclear defence, and it becomes useless when Trump privately supports Putin.
