To have grudging respect for how Trump styled it out

I mean someone tried to murder him, he came very close to having died. He went through a terrifying experience and came out saying fight and raising his fist in defiance. I think he’s an odious man but despite that, I have to concede a nod to that.

Let’s face it, if this had happened to Obama and he’d responded in the same way we’d all be like ‘woah, he the man!’

Note. This is not a genuine AIBU. I’m confident in my position on this but know so many people have so polarized themselves that they would rather eat their own eyeballs than find any small compliment or recognition for someone they hate.

Eurgh, no. He was trying to incite thoughtless, reactionary violence. Nothing admirable about it

Yes. 'FIGHT!' is the word he shouted. Just like he incited insurgency before.
I'm glad he wasn't killed as that would mean rioting & still more damage. It's going to be a long haul until November.

Yep, his death would have been a nightmare.

Why are the MAGA lot on here? I thought this was a reasonably nice website. He is a dangerous, terrible, terrifying prospect as president. I can't fathom how he has the support that he does. And as many PP have said, he reacted like an idiot - true to form. He put more lives at risk by not just following instructions.

RanchRat · 14/07/2024 19:45

He's a fucking psychopath, of course he is fearless,

He was too thick to process what was happening. As usual. How anyone can have an iota of admiration for him I do not know.

Some people are too thick to imagine that someone they dislike could ever behave admirably in any circumstance.

SpidersAreShitheads · 14/07/2024 19:45

I am seriously concerned about what will happen when Trump wins the election (which he bloody will).

It’s not about differences in policy - it’s about the fact he’s a deeply corrupt sex offender who lies so convincingly he manages to persuade people that the sky is green with yellow stripes.

However, that said, I imagine his polling will now tick higher.

I think his reaction will bolster his reputation among his followers. And I think what is being viewed as a “courageous” Trump response might even win over undecided voters who see his reaction as presidential.

Even worse, it’s giving fuel to the idea that Biden deliberately incited people to attack him which MAGA fools are now suggesting is no different to Trump’s incitement of a riot on Capitol Hill. Twitter is being ridiculous, even more than usual.

I loathe the man but I think to those of who might consider voting for him, his reaction will have done him a big favour. He’s now the equivalent of a fucking war hero in their eyes.

Who said I hate him? I wouldn’t expend that much emotion on him.

I’d say inadequacy of character is having a hard on for Trump.

Ok, you are not only unable to give credit to someone you don’t expend energy on, you are unable to understand that others could.

And you have such inadequacy of character that you feel the need to say people have ‘hard ons’ ( are you a 13 year old boy?) for people you don’t expend energy on if they say anything vaguely complimentary about them.

It's because it was entirely staged. He knew he was in no danger.

I think wannabe dictators often are brave. It takes a certain bravery to orchestrate world war 3. People aren't always black and white either. In my town a few years ago there was a have-a-go hero who risked his own life to save a girl's life. He was hailed as a proper saviour. Later on (through my work) I found put that this man was also a very, very nasty piece of work, who had probably caused deaths. But there's no doubt he did indeed save that girl and put himself in danger to do it.

SpudleyLass · 14/07/2024 19:31

He can't supersede the two term limit, so yes quite sure.

Not legally (currently) no. Does that mean anything to Trump and his supporters though?

I have heard that Project2025 will seek to change that if Trump is elected.

And bearing in mind the Supreme Court ruled that he has immunity for anything he does as president, I think Trump would be very, very keen to extend his stay.

There’s a psychopathic, egotistical element to it for sure.

The President doesn't have that ability.

He dies if he decides he does. And if his stacked court agree. I think you are being naïve.

The young man who tried to assassinate him was shot down dead and he's 20.

Why do you insist I need to give him credit?

The more you post the more MAGA you sound.

are you a 13 year old boy?

No, that would be the Trump Fanboi on the thread.

Maximusdecimus · 14/07/2024 19:49

He will win the presidency based on this. I think he wants to be the one that solves the ‘Russian problem’ so he can boast he diverted WW3.

Startingagainandagain · 14/07/2024 19:50

I despise the man and what he stands for but I have to say he played this perfectly.

That image of him rising his fist in defiance will give his campaign the biggest possible boost and an iconic, unforgettable photograph.

He is a consummate showman and opportunist and gave his supporters exactly what they wanted.

Let's hope voters remember what he truly stands for...

DingleDongBellEnd · 14/07/2024 19:50

Who cares about him? What about the poor man whose head was shot open while covering his family?

50 yr old ex fire chief.

cardibach · 14/07/2024 19:50

turquoisebays · 14/07/2024 19:38

It's actually funny watching people just absolutely seethe over this man.
The pure, unadulterated hatred for him is just tangible. This would be understandable if there weren't other leaders and former leaders of free countries who were guilty of far, far worse than Trump, but because Trump is first and foremost guilty of the unforgiveable crime of being a right-wing, politically incorrect businessman, he is enemy number 1 for the Left. I'm not saying he isn't guilty of more, but compared to some other leaders from the last decade, he's almost benign.
In my view, Jacinda Arden's policies were outright, objectively evil and dangerous. I am genuinely shocked she's not in prison for some of the things she implemented. But she's an educated, left-wing woman, so there's no way she could be worse than someone like TRUMP.

He’s a sexually abusive fraudster. I don’t think there are too many active politics Ian’s who match that.

But you’re kind of in the minority? He’s way ahead in the polls in America, so there are many millions who do support him. You don’t have to understand why, just understand that people have different views to your own. It happens……

Maximusdecimus · 14/07/2024 19:51

I’m hugely relieved that the shooter wasn’t a person of colour, the repercussions don’t bare thinking about.

I don't admire Hitler or Putin so why am I going to show any credit to Trump who is best friends with Putin?????

My dad had this attitude and he was shot down with intelligence immediately.

Ladyslip · 14/07/2024 19:53

Yawn. Yes we are all MAGA. We are just saying ‘ I think Trump is odious but..’ to try to put you off the scent. Damn! It’s not worked!

What I did notice was his security detail were shorter than Trump. Not sure why but it was noticeable on the footage. He's a big fella.

I remember Reagan being shot, he was bundled into a car unceremoniously, not great for a wounded individual.

There's no training I guess for such an incident that compares to reality. They'd all have been running on adrenaline.

Ho towered above them because he stood up straight while they were keeping low to avoid risk. He’s an idiot. And being tall isn’t a positive characteristic anyway - it’s chance.

And I’ve just read he was a Republican!

State voter records show that he was a registered Republican, according to US media.
He is also reported to have donated $15 to liberal campaign group ActBlue in 2021.
According to US media reports, Crooks was wearing a T-shirt from Demolition Ranch, a YouTube channel known for its guns and demolition content. The channel has millions of subscribers featuring videos on different guns and explosive devices.
