To have grudging respect for how Trump styled it out

I mean someone tried to murder him, he came very close to having died. He went through a terrifying experience and came out saying fight and raising his fist in defiance. I think he’s an odious man but despite that, I have to concede a nod to that.

Let’s face it, if this had happened to Obama and he’d responded in the same way we’d all be like ‘woah, he the man!’

Note. This is not a genuine AIBU. I’m confident in my position on this but know so many people have so polarized themselves that they would rather eat their own eyeballs than find any small compliment or recognition for someone they hate.

BruFord, the right person can be persuaded, look at suicide terrorists. It's only a thought, seemed a little bit too pat for my liking.

There's a lot of radicalised MAGAs and the guy was a registered republican. I have no idea what happened, but any things possible in Americas political scene these days isn't it?

Oh good lord being a registered whatever doesn’t mean you are a supporter.

Some states have closed primaries. Meaning you have to register for the party in order to vote for that party’s candidate. It’s a known tactic to vote for for the weakest candidate of the opposing party. Especially if your party isn’t having a contested race.

Not all states do this. In my state all primaries are on the ballot but I can only vote in one party’s primary. But yeah if my candidate was a lock and I could help to screw the other side by voting for a weak candidate… I might do it. I never have…but it’s not off the table.

The assassin also donated $ to act blue which is a democratic PAC. So it’s much more plausible that he voted for a crappy candidate in the republican primary race and had to register as a republican to do so (which is free!) and really was a democrat supporter which can be demonstrated by the donation.

Vance is handsome with beautiful blue eyes - just saying

The system is quite confusing to the outsider though isn't it? Different systems in different states etc. I suppose I can't wrap my head around such a big country.

The staging argument doesn't make sense unless you think they were prepared to kill Trump. That bullet was inches from killing him - if he hadn't have tilted his head the way he did in the split second before he would likely have died. Did you see what happened to the audience member that did get hit and how he died instantly. Trump was incredibly lucky to have such a minor injury.

TheOriginalEmu · 16/07/2024 00:12

I think it was a stupid reaction. It encourages people to get up and start clapping and flipping off the camera (or at least in that direction) when they had no idea if it was safe. He put himself, his staff and the crowd at risk.

He heard bullets and instinctively threw himself over his wife and daughter.

Trump heard bullets and instinctively demonstrated arrogance, narcissism and took insane risks with his life and the lives of his security people.

Grudging respect - no, sorry- total contempt, and no, "styled it out" is just an attempt to put a positive spin on his pathetic, ignorant performance - and sadly, some people are likely to be falling for the rhetoric, but that has always been the case with Trump supporters. There is no accounting for people who can't recognise a narcissistic psychopath when he is jumping up and down in front to them shouting "I'M A NARCISSISTIC PSYCHOPATH! I'M A NARCISSISTIC PSYCHOPATH!"

Yes, everything about it is very... convenient.

I just can't......😂👀🙄

MistyGreenAndBlue · 16/07/2024 02:14

I doubt he was afraid. Psychopaths dont feel fear.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 16/07/2024 02:19

Staged. He needs to follow his own advice and get over it.

suburberphobe · 16/07/2024 02:21

You are ridiculous for bringing Obama into this. He's long gone.

Michelle would win but she's not in the running, can't blame her at all.

Like my sister says, "rather Biden in a coma, than Trump"

Trump will win though and that is a terrifying prospect.

I'm really fascinated by these staged claims. Do you mean the whole shooting, or just the photo? Who staged it and why?

I think really, noone cares that much whether it was staged or not, from the trump point of view, and he has cried wolf so many times that plenty of people are never going to believe anything he ever says now

I can see why his critics leapt to that conclusion in the immediate aftermath. But know you know that the shooter himself is dead, along with an innocent supporter, and the head of the security service's job is on the line, how the hell could you think it's staged?

Trump wouldn't care about any of that

Good lord you'd think the wife and daughters of the man whose head was shot and died right in front of them would care. And all his family and friends.

People are dead! Was not a set up!

newnamethanks · 16/07/2024 05:49

He's the new Messiah and God help the world. No. No respect at all for the grabby, grubby sleazebag.

NuNameNuMe · 16/07/2024 05:52

He's certainly braver than those school kids killed by AR 15s. And as for whether it's a set up, ask Alex Jones. My only hope is that maybe this close brush with death causes him some pause for thought, and that he's thinking maybe I took this shit too far.

Equivo · 16/07/2024 06:00

I thought he showed himself to be an absolute idiot. The last thing the world needs in a leader with access to nuclear weapons is a man whose go to response in a situation with unknown dangers is to foment uncontrolled violence.

He put not just himself in danger (fine, his choice to make) but those who were trying to protect him and the civilians around him, for the sake of his fucking ego. His behaviour is unforgivable.

Not to mention that someone in the audience had literally just been killed and he's pumping his fist and glorifying the moment. The man whose instinct was to protect and shield his family would have been 100x the leader than the man whose instincts were to endanger those around him and foment further violence.

AvidAunt · 16/07/2024 06:08

Bakersdozens · 14/07/2024 18:32

He was running on adrenaline, and did everything wrong, showed no self control or training at all. He was sticking his head out without knowing how many snipers there were, or where they were! His guards were desperately trying to reign him in, but he was out of control. No sense, no self control, no response to training

No, I don't admire him. If there had been two shooters, he would have been killed. He is an idiot. Most people know it

Edited

Agreed. He put his handlers/security in further danger for a show of vanity. He continues to be a narcissistic disaster.

NineChickennuggets · 16/07/2024 06:10

His behaviour put everyone around him at risk. He is an idiot.

OK, assuming for a minute that he convinced the shooter to sacrifice himself for the cause.

If you were staging this event would you choose a random, unremarkable, untrained 20yo to shoot your ear off from 130 metres away?

ETA: one who had recently donated to Democrat causes?
