To have grudging respect for how Trump styled it out

I mean someone tried to murder him, he came very close to having died. He went through a terrifying experience and came out saying fight and raising his fist in defiance. I think he’s an odious man but despite that, I have to concede a nod to that.

Let’s face it, if this had happened to Obama and he’d responded in the same way we’d all be like ‘woah, he the man!’

Note. This is not a genuine AIBU. I’m confident in my position on this but know so many people have so polarized themselves that they would rather eat their own eyeballs than find any small compliment or recognition for someone they hate.

@Infor I asked on another thread about Hawkeye as the security were asking about them on the podium after Trump went down, was the security for Trump private and the Hawkeye contingent were on the periphery ? Who were the people who turned up in full combat gear ? local's or national or SS ?

The main SS security were in suits and seemed clusmsy - one struggled to holster their pistol, a more traditional CAT (Hawkeye) in black battledress stood guard after the clearance, so I'm guessing they are normally hidden from sight but very close to whoever they're guarding.
On closer inspection, the sniper who killed the shooter was 'Hawkeye' with a very faded 'Secret Service' sign on their vest.
There seems to be some confusion as to where the perimeter of secret service responsibility ended and local police began. Not sure if that's real or to save the blushes of responsible parties until investigations are progressed further.

Boris and his ilk were dicks but they weren't wannabe dictators. They wanted to rule the establishment not get rid of it. Trump is an entirely different class.

Tony Blair, illegal wars anyone?

The British people also voted to leave BREXIT vote ourselves poorer

The people who voted for Brexit were already poor and ignored by Westminster.

Dymaxion · 14/07/2024 20:55

We were small fry compared to the US contingent and were also supported by the Australians and the Polish. Lets not pretend Blair started the invasion by himself, American forces made up 75% and were under the direction of George W Bush.

They ended up worse because they believed in Boris and Farage and what they said. Since BREXIT it has got worse and it won't get any better. Before we joined the EU we were the sick ones in Europe. We don't make anything and we voted leave. I eat a Mediterranean diet and it costs because it comes from Europe. I will never compromise on my health and eat shit.

But Brexit made it worse for those ignoring the plight of those who were poor.

Perhaps if previous administrations had listened, Brexit could have been avoided

Where have you been for the last 14 years?

Teddybearpicniccelebration · 14/07/2024 21:12

Where have you been for the last 14 years?

Well I was 17, 14 years ago.

And I stand by what I said.

New Labour introduced uni tuition fees, took us into Oraq and started the privatisation of the NHS.

And then there are the Cons

Honestly? I voted Brexit to see what would happen.

Perhaps if my single mother hadn't been so penalised by Labour for being so, I'd might be a Labour voters now.

Alas.

Dymaxion · 14/07/2024 21:18

@infor thank you , I can't help feeling that those in suits and sunglasses ( is that what SS stands for Wink) must have been inwardly FFS'ing like mad in their minds trying to get him to safety !
I wonder was the building that the SS sniper person was on included in the Rally perimeter ? I don't profess to have any knowledge about firearms, have plucked a few birds badly and that's it , but the building the shooter was on seemed quite close by from a being able to hit someone from a distance kind of way ? Is that what you mean by confusion over responsibility ?

Alas.

In what way did New Labour penalise your single mother? Only I was a single parent during their tenure and I don’t remember that. I remember working tax credits and so on.
Mind you, voting Brexit ‘to see what would happen’ when a cursory bit or research would have shown you that all government impact studies showed a negative effect doesn’t suggest you pay much attention to actual facts.

Edit: maths on your post suggest you were born in 1993 - so were 4 when Labour came in. Did this penalising happen when you were a baby maybe? Under the Tories?

ColinMyWifeBridgerton · 14/07/2024 21:23

The photo is absolutely incredible. I don't like him at all and have no fond feelings for American patriotism, but it's a very powerful image. I can imagine that if you already love trump and his vision for America that photo would be deeply moving.

I think he must be delighted with himself. He reacted better than he ever could have hoped. Given his vanity he'll also love that photograph.

I doubt it some how ! I was a single parent under Labour and got through my nurse training without any loans or debt to speak of, full bursary of the princely sum of £650 a month, plus child benefit, other than £500 on a credit card ? does that even count nowadays when student loans are in the 10's of thousands ? Mind you my full rent that I had to pay out of my bursary was only £225 a month, I was on the bones of my arse for three years, no money from the childs father, just the bursary and the CB, oh and I didn't have to pay council tax as a full-time student !

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 14/07/2024 21:32

Trump sure is the luckiest person alive. A bullet aimed at the head and he has a tiny ear nick.

Agree with PPs, you can do as much training as possible and will still react with your own primal instincts at a moment like this. Trumps primal instincts are his shoes and a fist pump. I think we generally call this a red flag on here.

Yeah my mother never went to college and had to pay a £400+ month rent on her own.

Labour sucked her dry.

But Obama wouldn't have stood up saying "fight fight fight". Because it's a stupid thing to do.

BruFord · 14/07/2024 21:35

What I noticed were his quick physical reactions compared with Biden, who had to be helped down the podium steps after the debate. Trump’s only four years younger, but I think he’s in much better health than Biden.

Biden really needs to withdraw from the election, IMO.

£400 a month on rent you must live up north?

East Midlands. This was 15-20 years ago.

Like I followed up with, there were 4 of us.

She worked damn hard and it only got harder.

I dislike Labour and Conservatives.

I voted Brexit for a reason - London needed to share the wealth.

Ihopeithinkiknow · 14/07/2024 21:39

Lmao the bloke got shot and some posters are calling him a moron for the way he reacted afterwards 😂 he probably already knew at that point that the security services would have wiped out the shooter but even if that didn't enter his head at that time the adrenaline would have taken over. I love Donald Trump but only as the host of the celebrity apprentice lol he makes a terrible president before anyone questions my judgement lol. I can't help but laugh at the posters saying he is a bloody idiot for how he acted after he was shot, imagine a car explosion and a bloke manages to escape the car and is rolling around on the floor to put the fire out, they would be saying "tut look at that bloody idiot he could be rolling around in petrol there lol what a twat"

Dymaxion · 14/07/2024 21:40

Yeah my mother never went to college and had to pay a £400+ month rent on her own.

so was she working ? so able to claim working tax credits or whatever they were called ? Or did she earn too much, so wasn't entitled to claim benefits ? Believe me it was better after Labour came in than before, before, we single Mothers ( not single Fathers, or absent Fathers, never them ! ) were the reason for all the ill's of society under the Conservatives !
