Not to understand why people keep asking about child friendly places to watch the England football match tonight?

What am I missing?

I’ve seen a lot of people asking for ‘child-friendly’ places to watch the Euro 2024 final tonight, what's that about?

Generalising much? Most people who watch football are not louts.

Quite.

I don't understand either. Pubs are for drinking and swearing. No way should adults have to mind what they're doing to accommodate the parents who simply can't be arsed to sit and watch it in their own living rooms.

I don’t disagree but pubs aren’t the only venues showing the football.

verdantverdure · 14/07/2024 14:43

Because they don't have a living room, a tv, a tv licence, family, friends and neighbours?

Personally, I am not fussed about watching it and it will be a lot more fun for my DS to watch it with his dad, but he lives too far away for me to come out at 11 potentially to pick up and he won't not drink so we want somewhere near my house where XH can take him. Why is that a weird concept to you?

Such a sweeping, lazy, ignorant statement. I watch every major tournament final in the pub with my DP and a mix of male and female friends and we are most definitely not louts, nor are the other people around us.

verdantverdure · 14/07/2024 15:13

I must admit I didn't consider pubs at all because I thought children weren't allowed in pubs after 9.

I think I get what you mean with the wording of ‘child friendly’. Nowhere is exactly child friendly at 11pm on a Sunday night during the football final other than your own home.

I guess what they really mean is they fancy going out to watch the game so what places are they allowed to drag their kids along them.

This must be one of the most stupid thread I have ever seen on MN.

I thought if child friendly was the priority then what's more child friendly than at home in their PJs?
not everyone is an antisocial bore?

I actually don't like football at all, but even I can understand that people want to watch it in a fun setting with others? Adults AND kids? You can have a child-friendly life but still have a life?

"child friendly" places to watch the match around here, to name just a few
-A few family-friendly pub, clearly advertised as such
-sports clubs
-Local Theatre
-Local Cinema
-Golf clubs

You would think people would be grateful families got out instead of loudly watching the match in their own living room where the neighbours can hear them, but no, still someone moaning.

ageratum1 · 14/07/2024 15:19

I would be asking too ...to avoid them!! Nothing worse than other people's kids!

Cinocino · 14/07/2024 15:19

So if you think the only “child friendly” place is your own living room do you never go anywhere and instead just keep your kids at home in their pjs at all times?

Bax765 · 14/07/2024 15:20

I guess they want somewhere child-friendly, but being able to share the atmosphere of the match with other people.

Our school is showing the match in the school hall, for example.

camelfinger · 14/07/2024 15:21

I have a theory that many of the people who enjoyed the booze-fuelled (but nice) social get togethers in pubs/fields with large screens in the 1996/1998/2004 tournaments all have their own families now and want to get the sweet taste of nostalgia. I’m happy to watch at home but can understand that people would like to embrace the party atmosphere for what is quite a rare event (and the weather isn’t shit).

FTPM1980 · 14/07/2024 15:22

What don't you understand?

doglover92 · 14/07/2024 15:23

Personally, I’m looking forward to going out for a pint to watch the match in the local social club with my husband, father in law and 18 month old, if she’s unhappy I’ll take her home, if it gets too ‘aggressive’, I’ll take her home. This is a one off occasion and I’m not missing it because football fans are negatively stereotyped. I am sick of these threads acting like I’m an irresponsible parent because of this 😂

Gogogo12345 · 14/07/2024 15:24

IDoLikeToBeByTheSea · 14/07/2024 14:28

I think a lot of pubs have something in their licences about under 18/16 (can’t remember which) not being allowed in after 9pm. Game would still be on at that point

But they are not necessarily wanting a pub. As plenty of PP have already stated

That's why people are asking for child friendly spaces. Not demanding all pubs become child friendly.

Another thread moaning about football
It's a one off match people night just want ti go out with their kids and enjoy the football not sure why that's so hard to grasp?

Some people on MN feel the need to be performative in their disapproval of people enjoying football. I don't know why they can't just not watch it without making such a fuss.

I disagree- pubs are for socialising with or without alcohol.
Swearing is an unfortunate part of modern life....it happens everywhere I go....and yet it was never the reason pub's exist. And more than one pub I worked in the landlord would admonish anyone that swore...and kick them out if they didn't stop.

However.....even if you were right about pubs, doesn't that explain the question? Would anyone even need to ask if they wanted to take the kids to the nearest pub?

verdantverdure · 14/07/2024 14:43

Surely most people has access to that? It doesn’t stop them from going out on a variety of occasions.

I’m going to assume you do know why people are asking for child friend venues to watch the football because I fail to believe anyone can be that stupid and yet still have access to the internet and write a coherent sentence.

Wanting to watch the match with others maybe? It's not that hard to grasp is it.

I guess people are hoping there might be somewhere other than the local to watch.

FuzzyStripes · 14/07/2024 15:29

Also there are plenty of places you can watch the football that aren’t pubs. Lots of villages/towns are putting up big screens in their local squares for people to go along to watch.
