Not to understand why people keep asking about child friendly places to watch the England football match tonight?

What am I missing?

I’ve seen a lot of people asking for ‘child-friendly’ places to watch the Euro 2024 final tonight, what's that about?

OP posts:

this cult like worship of false gods

Yeah, but enough about Christianity, what do you think about the football?

😂😂

I’m going to the pub tonight and DH is staying home with the DCs. He isn’t a football fan and the DC’s are all under 2 so will be fast asleep by 7 anyway.

If they were older and interested in football, I’d definitely find somewhere child friendly to take them.

Whaleandsnail6 · 14/07/2024 17:41

We have spent every match at a bar with our young teens. Perfect for us all... atmosphere, singing, chanting and shock horror, me and dh have a couple of lagers, everyone has a good time. They havent been the only under 16s in there, there has been a mix of ages and it's just been a crowd of people enjoying the match. No trouble at all, there is security who have also watched the game (and kept an eye on things)

We'll be ther tonight...me and dh off work tomorrow but the kids will be at school as normal

You watch the match how you want op and stop judging others for what doesn't concern you!

Gardenschmarden99 · 14/07/2024 17:43

People often like to gather, not everyone has a big enough house (may live in a flat) or money to host. But they still want to gather with others but avoid drunken issues. We're going to our church. It will be more child friendly than our house because there will be a bouncy castle!

Boomer55 · 14/07/2024 17:44

The pubs around here are charging for reservations and most are already fully booked. Most meals have been cancelled. There are fan zones around where people can sit outside and watch on big screens.

I haven’t seen any offering “child friendly” - I think they’re aiming at the adult market tonight where they will shift most alcohol, especially as they’re open until 1am, which wouldn’t be much good for kids anyway.

But not all pubs are like this.
The ones local to us absolutely are catering for the family crowd.

Then they're not proper pubs. What age kids are they allowing in and are they allowed in till 11pm?
Of course they're a proper pub 🙄
They have a heated outside area with screens which is a designated family area.

Assuming some pubs will allow for kids on a special occasion?

Have you been to a pub recently? They aren't all old boozers anymore.

There are definitely naice pubs in the North East

Because they don't have a living room, a tv, a tv licence, family, friends and neighbours?

All the people without kids likely have a living room,a TV, a TV license, family, friends and neighbours. Do you resent them leaving the house too or just people with kids?

I think OP would say you should go to neither of those performances, but instead listen in your own home, as the sound quality will be better, no need to interact with other people and it saves fuss.

Fine for some people. Some of us love a collective experience. A lot of it is about the experience for me the order of experience of watching football is (best first)

  1. Live at the ground
  2. In front of a big screen in a place with loads of positive supporters in the same town as the match
  3. In front of a big screen in a place with loads of positive supporters outside in the sun
  4. In a full fun pub
  5. At a friend's house with a massive screen and everyone into the match
  6. At home with friends and family
  7. At home on with just family
  8. On my own on my phone ill in bed with COVID (hello semi final).
  9. Watching highlights knowing we have lost 😜

It's all just personal preference!

I haven't read the thread but have read such a post from a relative on fb earlier today. She has a six year old footy mad son (the whole family love football) and I am assuming they want to go out as a family and enjoy the experience in a social setting with other friends and relatives, rather than staying at home.

GoFigure235 · 14/07/2024 17:57

Bizarre that the OP is getting exercised about other people choosing to take their kids out. Kids do go out of the house in the evening sometimes, you know. They don't have a curfew.

FeelingSoOverwhelmed · 14/07/2024 18:02

Not a massive football fan and definitely not supporting England tonight, but even I can imagine why people with kids might want ideas of where to watch a massive event like this in public! Surely the concept of "just watch it at home" could apply to anyone... Honestly some people must have led very sheltered lives!

False gods like footballers, you mean? I don’t think even the most committed fan thinks Jude Bellingham is an embodiment of the Good Lord. And John Stones definitely isn’t: he’s been playing more like Lazarus when he was still dead.

St Gary of Leicester is not a false disciple either. He’s just an irritating twat.

Why the hell should everything be child friendly?

Why the hell should everything be child friendly?

No one is saying everything should be. People are just asking for somewhere that is.

Caththegreat · 14/07/2024 18:07

Why the hell should everything be child friendly?

No one is asking for everything to be child friendly. But of the 100s of venues showing the football tonight, some will be. And some people are asking to be signposted to those.

Hope that clears it up.

Nobody is asking for them to be 🤷🏼‍♀️
But some will be and people would like to know which ones are.
