Cool. So we let Ukraine fall to Russia and where does Putin invade next in his ambition to reform the USSR?

I don't really know what your point is. Whether you agree or not is hardly the point.

You seem to think that every free country not headed by Trump is of one mind regarding how to best deal with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Trump is making some kind of clearly crazy argument.

That is simply not true. Trump has drawn a clear line, more than many others so far, but he he is not some total outlier on this. It's a real question throughout Europe whether it is the best course of action to continue to support Ukraine's military resistance, or whether there should be some kind of push for them to compromise in some way. And the reason for this is mainly around what is politically and militarily possible, and also around the costs of support, monetary and otherwise.

You are trying to make out like he's acting like a far out madman by his position on that, but there are plenty of respectable political people and academics who have asked these kinds of questions, it continues to be a live question in Europe.

Whether you stand on the question isn't relevant, it's just not a crazy position.

Trump isn't the head of any country so his opinion is irrelevant. It of course it's a hot topic, the war has been going on for a long time and is costing a lot of money. The aim obviously is for Putin to pull out however, if we let Ukraine fall, where does Putin invade next?

No. Source ‘Truth Social’, trump’s very own social media network. He started it because he was kicked off facebook. And ‘telegram’, a messaging app popular among right-wing groups.

Agreed it's a good photograph. Personally I thought of Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima.

A lucky angle? It’s nowhere near him. It’s physically impossible for that flag to be in that shot.

Obviously not, since you can see the proof from a PP.

Not, don't you feel uninformed and silly?

tothesea · 15/07/2024 00:34

There is something weird and off about the whole thing. Donald Trump is the king of misinformation and fake news. I think it’s ok to discuss concerns and misgivings about the incident. There seems to a lot of Trump supporters crawling out of the woodwork to shut that down.

So what are you suggesting? That Trump and his allies staged the whole thing (with him cutting his own ear while on the ground, or breaking a capsule of fake blood), and decided to take out an innocent member of the public for added authenticity? And that they somehow managed to recruit a shooter who was willing to be 'neutralised'? I don't think it's 'ok' to suggest it's fakery, because the implications are horrific.

And for what gain?

A boost to his presidential campaign, even though he was already dominating the polls and victory in November was already a near-certainty?

Dearest SpudleyLass;

"The Obama administration responded to the outrage by rushing to expand its capacity to handle the new migration wave at the border, to adapt an infrastructure built to handle single adult men, not families and children."

"The facility was controversial at the time, but it wasn’t until Trump’s zero-tolerance episode in spring 2018 that the facility came to symbolize the kind of administrative cruelty associated with the intentional separation of children from their parents by the government."

Re white supremacy;

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/23484314/trump-fuentes-ye-dinner-white-nationalism-supremacy

Fred Trump was arrested for fighting with cops at a KKK rally. Vice News looked into it and reported that all the arrestees were robed marchers. If that isn't evidence that he was KKK, then I guess there is no such thing as evidence.

Maybe you first should fact check this. Oh wait, you say a lot of unproven things because you hate Trump. Isn't he enough of a disater without making shit up? Besides, if we are going to bring parents into it, we can go after Obama and a few other ex-Presidents. He isn't his father and has never been a racist, unless he was one when he was a democrat. Wasn't the KKK Democrats? Thought so.

I dislike Trump and I hate Biden. So, my turn for unproven stories and proven ones about Joe-Joe.

#1--He had an affair with Jill while she was still married to her first husband. First husband is the one who came out with story.

#2--Biden destroyed the life of the trucker who hit his first wife's car by doing speeches and calling him "drunk" and "he drank his lunch". That was shown false from the get-go. He continued his lies until he was threatened with a lawsuit. The trucker died years before his time because of the lies Biden told. The trucker's family have said this. Why Biden lied is up for debate, but I find it strange that his wife would hold a baby on her lap to drive and not see a big-ass truck coming, and then pulling out RIGHT in front of it. Right away, his supporters/LEO said, "we checked the brakes, and they were fine". Really? Perhaps too much "explaining"? He did meet Jill before the election when he asked her husband for a donation. (From the first husband)
See how things can be turned?

#3--He "claimed" he was arrested and imprisoned with Andrew Young when they went to visit Mandela in prison. It never happened. At all. Andrew Young confirmed this. Biden's team have tried to twist it into something else, but "good try" and epic fail.

#4--He sexually assaulted a woman when he was Senator. The woman told MANY people about it at the time, and her mother mentioned it on Larry King years before Biden ran in 2016. Then she shut up and went away. I wonder why? She did say she'd still vote for Biden, so I am guessing pressure $$$$$ was applied.

#5--Twice Biden threw his hat into the ring to be President and both times had to withdraw after his plagiarism and his racism came to light. Even newscasters mentioned his lies on national tv, back when tv wasn't political, just factual. "In the 1988 election cycle, Biden did make a short-lived bid for the Democratic nomination, but withdrew after he was accused of plagiarism. He won two delegates, or 0.05 percent of the vote, at the Democratic convention, as the meme correctly states.
Biden ran again in 2008, drawing early criticism after he then-candidate Barack Obama “the first sort of mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” He dropped out in January 2008 after he placed fifth in the Iowa caucuses, and during the 2008 convention, he received zero delegate votes."
{From Check Your Fact dot com.}

#6--His lies about his jobs. His "children love to rub my leg hair when it's wet" , his pawing at women...

All these things are reasons why Biden will never get my vote.

I don't respect many liberals because they dismiss all of the above, yet whine on and on about Trump. Which he more than deserves. But, when it's all one way from the group that I have designated as the "when they go low, we will scrape the bottom of the barrel to win" gang, a.k.a. many main-stream liberals.

I will vote third party, as I have done for the last two elections. But, I have been told that people will vote Rep. because either they hate the liberals, even if they don't like Trump, or vote Dem. because they hate Trump, even if they don't like Biden.

I pray for a third party or for the removal of all parties.

Are you the "head" of any countries? Anyhoo.....

To determine where does Putin invade next, it might be worth trying to work out why he invaded Ukraine. Then look at other countries where similar circumstances exist. If you think it is because he ran out of babies to eat, well I guess anywhere with babies could be next. If you think it is about EU/NATO encroachment, Black sea access or protection of Russian speaking minorities then maybe nowhere is next or perhaps Finland though I doubt it.

TempestTost · 15/07/2024 02:12

I don't think it matters whether Trumps dad was a racist or in the KKK.

We know Biden's political mentor was a KKK member. That doesn't necessarily matter either, he later repudiated those views and what matters is Biden's views now.

It is worth noting that KKK membership was very common among Democrats of that era, the KK was considered, informally, a Democrat organization.

You are not talking to a Biden supporter, a Democrat or a liberal, so I could not give a hairy shit about any of that. I would vote third party too if there was one that stood half a chance. Fortunately, I will not have to make that awful choice as I don't live in the US.

Check the context. I posted the stuff about Trump because somebody compared Trump to Hitler and somebody else didn't seem to understand why. I pointed out some reasons why people make that comparison. The reference to his father was by way of explaining how Trump came by his racist beliefs, which I provided a solid source to factual information on, not just rumor. It's inarguable that he is a racist. It's tiresome that people still try to challenge that one.

Sorry that you wasted a long rant on me.
Context is everything.

Biden once said that white supremacists he knew on the other side of the aisle were good guys. 🤢
I agree that it only matters what their beliefs are now. Trump is a racist. Biden could be, but there isn't a much evidence supporting that. I only brought up Fred Trump to help explain how Trump became the man he is today.

It's true that the parties both had their share of racists until the Republicans implemented the Southern Strategy to become the party of southern bigots. They made a conscious choice to appeal to those people.

This mistake was dealt with. FTFT. You just wasted some decent snark, which should be a crime in my book. Snark should never be treated so callously.

The list is just to show the wide variety of ideologies and motives behind these kind of crimes. The person I responded to implied that all the attacks on Republicans were carried out by Democrats.

@Golden407 oh, 'he's made it clear' that if something happens that upsets Putin then it's an excuse for him go and invade another country? Killing many many innocent people? Really? Putin is the aggressor here. End of story.

Do you think Mexico or Canada would be free to join an armed alliance with China if they so wished? China could then start among and training Mexican/Canadian troops.
The Monroe doctrine means the US will respond with military force to any foreign power trying to gain a foothold within Americas sphere of influence. They define their sphere of influence as the entire western hemisphere.
Russia's demands were that Ukraine remained neutral. That's not unusual

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/07/2024 07:14

Why is it always the left who are expected to learn & modify their values & opinions to placate & persuade the right?

I find learning always a worthwhile aim, @Shakeoffyourchains, and wouldn't dream of denying anyone their right to an opinion; however if their "values" include supporting physical attacks on those they disagree with I consider that worth challenging, even knowing that challenges will instantly push such folk into victim mode

Clearly I touched a nerve and I'm sorry about that, but I'm afraid that pushback is something you'll just have to expect when supporting such choices

TheFirmBiscuit · 15/07/2024 07:54

I saw an very good talk by Martin Wolf Senior Editor for the FT about the future of Britain and the US. He said he knows Britatain will muddle through and find a good place in the end it's because what we do - we accept the oucomes of elections as well, But he really fears for the US as it is divided like never before since the Civil War and armed to the teeth with guns and pretty much controls the worlds' economy and now this....
