Watching the footage last night on the news as the story broke was awful. You could hear real screams from somewhere in the crowd, it turns out they were from the bleachers to the other side of Trump, where people had been shot.
The microphone was still on at the podium, so you could hear the security people and Trump talking. They very clearly said the shooter was down before allowing Trump to stand up, Trump was also heard asking for his shoes, but to to be fair was probably in a state of shock in that moment. Not sure who Hawkeye is though ? Photographers ran to the podium, even before Trump got to his feet, which would have put them in a great position to take the pictures they did, which to be fair is how they make their money. I still haven't figured out if they were brave or stupid.
What I also found deeply troubling about the footage, was the man and woman in the crowd who seemed to be directing their considerable anger towards the press area, I imagine the footage will be cut for morning TV, because they were quite clearly shouting 'fuck you' and making obscene finger gestures. An American reporter interviewed who was in the press area at the event, spoke about the anger of people towards them ' you did this' types of comment.
From what they have said on the news this morning, the shooter was outside the perimeter of the event and that security to enter the actual rally was tight. I think questions will rightly be asked about why the buildings the shooter used, not secured ?
I don't agree with Trump about anything really, I think he has been responsible for the very divisive nature of politics in the US, but I don't want anyone to kill him. I actually think the US has been fortunate that he wasn't killed, because that really would have sent shock waves through the country and fueled even more conspiracies, division and violence.
