To not go to A and E?

MN224 · 13/07/2024 15:14

Persistent headache day 5 along with light headedness, heavy eyes, general lethargy. Have been taking regular pain relief nurofen and paracetamol, this has taken edge off but pain returns.

called into pharmacy this morning he told me to to A and E. phoned Out of hours doc she told me I needed checked and to go to A and E.

AIBU to not go and wait to see my GP on Monday? Obvs feel rubbish and wish pain would do one but I think there are so many more people worse off than me and hate taking up NHS time!

You have already used nhs time by visiting a pharmacy and calling out of hours doc.

both have given you the same advice. It’s up to you whether you take it. Your post is utterly pointless. Stop being a martyr and take charge of yourself you are a grown woman. If you are unable then suggest you seek urgent therapy to address your low self esteem and needy behaviour

hope you feel better - there’s no need to suffer

Sirzy · 13/07/2024 15:18

Two medical professionals have said you should go to A and E. surely that’s enough to go to A and E?

StormingNorman · 13/07/2024 15:19

A&E don’t do anything for headaches unless you have an uncontrolled nosebleed, are at risk of dehydration from vomiting or have stroke symptoms.

You’d be better calling 111.

Personally, I’d get some ibuprofen lysine (Nurofen Migraine Pain and Boots do an own brand version). Much better than paracetamol and standard nurofen.

Yeah - feeling blunt I guess… I spent many years working in countries with very poor medical services and where people could often not afford to buy basic antibiotics etc

so not much tolerance for martyrish bleating!

There's no point in getting snarky. She's right!

2 different NHS professionals have told you to go to A&E (3 if you include 111)

Why are you now posting to ask if its ok to go against their recommendation?

StormingNorman · 13/07/2024 15:52

I’m sorry. I put a lot of store in 111 so would go with their advice. I wouldn’t be hopeful of any actual treatment though. I’ve been told to go home a couple of times with migraines and cluster headaches.

if burden isn’t working, soluble aspirin might. The kool n soothe headache patches are also good.

edit: nurofen not burden. Bloody autocorrect

Babyshambles90 · 13/07/2024 15:55

Have you done a Covid test? Headache, dizziness, lethargy, pretty common symptoms for this latest version and everyone I know seems to have it at the moment. At least then you’d have an explanation for what’s wrong.

Thanks this is my point I just think they’ll send me home with so many others to see.

No I wouldn't bother. I've went for things like this and I always feel stupid after. Most people there don't need to be there.

LizzeyBenett · 13/07/2024 15:58

What will it take for you to go ? Two professionals have told you to go ? You don't play with something like that it could be nothing but it could be anything h as well go get checked for the love of god

No true, headaches are symptomatic of many things.

Op you've had two separate lots of medical advice, I'm not sure what you want from Mumsnet. A group of strangers to say you should ignore advice and go to GP tomorrow? Seems like you already think that so I'm with the PP in saying this is all a bit pointless.

Sapphire387 · 13/07/2024 16:14

I'm sorry OP but this is genuinely silly.

A doctor has told you to go to A&E. What do you expect us to do - tell you to ignore the doctor?

If you'd rather take the advice of randoms on mumsnet than a medical professional (actually two) then more fool you.

It's your health, it's your choice.

Dontcallmescarface · 13/07/2024 16:16

AIBU to not go and wait to see my GP on Monday?

Why would you wait until Monday when you've already had a Dr tell you to go to A&E today? What was the point of contacting the OOH Dr for advice if you're just going to ignore it?

Noosnom · 13/07/2024 16:17

Go to A&E.
A headache isn't always a normal headache.

user1471556818 · 13/07/2024 16:19

Why waste everyone's time and then not take the advice?.
Now posting on here so random folks can give you conflicting advice .
Do what you like .

They may do, but they may also save your life. A mum in her 20s at my DCs school had a blinding headache for three days, and died in her sleep. She had no other stroke symptoms but had had a bleed. You should get it checked.

This isn't true. My GP sent me to A&E with a persistent headache, I was admitted for a week and am now being treated by specialist neurologists a year later. A&E was absolutely where I needed to go.

MigGirl · 13/07/2024 16:33

So the out of ours GP recommended you go and get looked at in A&E and you are going to ignore their advice.

Go ahead but don't sue anyone if something goes wrong.

KikiShaLeeBopDeBopBop · 13/07/2024 16:34

Go to A&E

You're being really daft - it isn't just a bad headache, the other symptoms indicate that something serious could be going on.

Better to be discharged after observation than end up dead or disabled.

Alwaystired23 · 13/07/2024 16:38

I'd go to A&E.

HollyKnight · 13/07/2024 16:52

What's your setup? Do you have a partner? I suggest that if you don't have another adult in the house, leave a door unlocked to make it easier for people to find your body. If you have children or pets, same re: the unlocked door, plus let someone else know that your children/pets might need checked on.
