Is it gross to rewear clothes?

I have one pair of maternity leggings that fit. I had them on yesterday all day and want to wear them again today. I didn’t go anywhere in them other than a brief trip to the shop and was otherwise at home all day. Is it fine or bad hygiene to wear them again today?

YABU - gross, find something else
YANBU - things like that are definitely fine for a second day

If they look and smell fine, they are. You will presumably be wearing clean pants underneath.

OMGsamesame · 13/07/2024 08:26

If you're wearing clean knickers then I don't see the issue. I wouldn't wash a normal pair of leggings after 1 wear unless they were dirty on the outside or inside.

Yes and yes

Did they get sweaty / smell ?
no - wear them. Yes wash them.

why would you wear clothes just one time ? This such an alien concept to me. Wash when they need washing 🤣

if you are struggling to be ok with this think
of it as the green option !

Mooda · 13/07/2024 08:27

Not gross at all. Sensible. Wash socks and knickers after every wear obviously but everything else only when it smells or is visibly dirty. Less pointless washing for you, better for the environment, win win!

I wear jumpers again and again but not usually trousers. I don’t know why it’s a different thing in my head!

Of course it’s fine! I wear trousers at least two days usually more.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 13/07/2024 08:29

Definitely rewear unless there is visible or sniffable dirt!
Over Washing and then of course drying spoils clothes and the environment.

Make it the norm to rewear, not just wash constantly.

TheChosenTwo · 13/07/2024 08:29

I can’t believe that you have made it to adulthood without ever rewearing a pair of strides 😂
Generally my stuff gets washed when it’s visibly dirty or smells. Sometimes, depending on what I’ve been doing in them that’s after one wear, sometimes that’s a few days. Other than underwear obviously!

Izzynohopanda · 13/07/2024 08:29

I re-wear clothes all the time , both tops and trousers. I’d hate to think how much washing people have if they wear it for one minute and then it gets a wash.

Izzynohopanda · 13/07/2024 08:30

@TheChosenTwo Strides, then there’s a word you don’t hear very often. Not sure when I last heard it being used.

MedicalCannabis · 13/07/2024 08:31

What? Of course you don't wash every single clothing item every single day. Humans really have no hope, do they? 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

ricecrispiecakes · 13/07/2024 08:32

Personally I don't re-wear leggings.

RampantIvy · 13/07/2024 08:32

I agree with this. Washing trousers and jumpers after just one wear if they are still clean is a massive waste of time, money and resources and bad for the environment.

You must spend a ridiculous amount of time doing laundry. Once your baby arrives there will be even more laundry to do.

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/07/2024 08:34

You wash youself regularly yes? You change your pants daily yes?

Exactly how dirty are a pair of leggings going to be after one wear?

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 13/07/2024 08:37

You should be wearing clothes more than once, it's hugely wasteful to put trousers in the wash after every wear. As long as you and your underwear is clean, nothing bad could possibly happen by wearing clothes until they're dirty.

Elephantsarenottheonlyfruit · 13/07/2024 08:41

If I’ve worn them all day, I wouldn’t re wear leggings or T-shirts, because they would be smelly. Maybe I sweat more than most or my sweat is smellier ?!

DiscoBeat · 13/07/2024 08:50

If it looks clean and smells clean, it is clean.

Jadedbuthappy82 · 13/07/2024 08:51

I really do despair for the future of humanity. Some people are in for a real shock when the reality finally hits of what it's going to take to save our precious planet. The level of total ignorance from seemingly intelligence people blows my mind.

If we are all washing clothes at this rate of unnecessary ridiculousness, what hope is there that we can globally reduce the amount of strain on our water systems, let alone anything else.

Imagine how people will react when the emergency measures kick in when the eventual mass panic hits those in charge and the majority of the general public. Of course we can't sustain our world by producing such an enormous amount of pollution daily in its various forms. Every single (domestic or industrial) load of washing produces goodness knows how many litres of grey (polluted with chemicals) water that is then released into the system and needs to be treated.

We are all (surely by now!?) aware of the horrendous state of the UKs waterways and sewage systems, this kind of ridiculous over-washing of clean clothes simply adds to an already broken system, bursting at the seams.

Can you imagine how people will react when we are finally given a list of measures to abide by to be even within a small vain hope of undoing all this environmental damage?

I mean I just cannot get my head around the sheer lack of commonsense and collective responsibility to be sensible here. How do people think that water from their washing machines gets back to clean again? By magic? Fairy dust? David Attenborough himself with his mangle?

For goodness sake please, all those people who fear wearing anything more than once - put your idiotic selfishness to one side, read some climate change books and get therapy.

OP, your leggings are fine lass, please wear them again x

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/07/2024 08:51

Also nothing bad happens if you do wear dirty clothes.

I grew up on a livestock farm, work clothes and overalls would get dirty during the course of the day (as you can imagine). You didn't change them until work was done for the day.

35965a · 13/07/2024 08:52

Always sniff test. If it’s OK then it’s fine. Any whiff on anything then wash.

RampantIvy · 13/07/2024 08:53

If I have been doing something that makes me sweaty it would go in the wash after one wear. I am going to wear yesterday's T shirt today because it was cold and all I did was visit a museum and didn't get sweaty at all. It has passed the sniff test.

My trousers/jeans/leggings don't get sweaty unless it is very hot. There is no danger of that happening just now, sadly.

Ponoka7 · 13/07/2024 08:55

Yes, as said by every pp. Don't feel that you have to wear clothes in the house, throw pj's on, if you want to keep your maternity/post birth wardrobe small.

I find leggings do get smelly after one wear as they sit right next to your underwear and the material is so thin 🤷‍♀️

It doesn't create extra laundry as I just have lots of pairs of leggings and chuck them all in once a week.

I wouldn't re-wear a t-shirt either.

dudsville · 13/07/2024 08:57

Argh, I hit "yabu" by accident and couldn't change it. You do what you need to do to be comfortable. This is a brief time in your life.
