Why does this country have very little compassion for the victims of grooming gangs?

Louisaaa · 12/07/2024 21:55

Firstly this is not a post about race! I understand men of all races have been involved in grooming gangs! This is mainly about why the British authorities and public have very little sympathy or will to try and solve the problem.

I find it horrendous how so many young girls have been exposed to the most horrific acts of rape, gang rape, murder, forced pregnancies throughout the UK over the decades etc...

Some of these girls where as young as 11!! Most where under 16 and grew up in care homes or came from very deprived backgrounds. Most where white.

When I see all the cases of this happening throughout the UK and hear how the POLICE, SOCIAL SERVICES, LOCAL COUNCIL and media gave it very little attention... Some of the documents showed that the council in Rotherham openly told it's staff to stop mentioning it in reports. The police would often lie blame with the victims and said it needed to tread carefully due to racial tension, and the social services would describe the men as their bfs..

  • a girl of 16 had been raped by over 300 men before she turned 16
  • some of them would disappear from care homes and where locked in flats for weeks where men would come rape them
  • some girls disappeared completely (thought murdered
  • some of them where trafficked around the country to be raped by other men
  • some girls murdered
  • 1400 girls raped in Rotherham under 16 and only 28 men have been convicted!!!

It shocks how people are still scared to talk about this or have no interest to do so... But when a woman is wolf whistled in the street.... Well conversations need to be had.

Is this because the children are white working class?
The majority of offenders in the cases are predominantly British Pakistani?
The children been brought up in care?

I do feel class played more a role, I feel if they were middle/upper class the authorities would have stamped it out immediately.

As with most groups of child abusers I suspect that the perpetrators primarily target children they have access to (vulnerable, already from difficult backgrounds) rather than primarily a racial/religious background.

Most of the groups worked in night time/take away type economies where they had access to such children.

Whether they then go to their place of worship or are even religious is irrelevant.

What do we want to see happen? It’s definitely on the public agenda, most people and authorities are aware and taking child grooming more seriously than they did.

Safe Guarding has been updated, as we've seen above from those in the industry.

Are there resources on how we can protect our children? Ensure they can identify patterns etc? Although I suppose the DC of the parents who would do this will have already have protection just by background.

Are there task forces in all regions for child grooming? Because there’s also the issue of county lines and criminal/ drug gangs exploiting children. Is work happening there does anyone know?

If you watch the video of the woman interviewed in the post I made at 10.30pm yesterday, it was the racial and religious aggravated nature of it, which made it so difficult to be heard and believed and also added to the degradation. They referred to white (or black) girls of different religions as ‘meat’, made them lick the feet of the men clean.

Yes, if you think about children groomed into prostitution everywhere, you think of children in local authority care, unloved, traumatised, etc. It wasn’t the case for her, she wasn’t an ‘easy target’, she was a racial/religious target.

The stubbornness people have about accepting the racial/religious aggravation in what we call ‘grooming gangs’ would be seized upon and appropriately targeted if the perpetrators were white Christian men, deliberately targeting women of different races and religions (or none), to abuse in this way. It would be viewed at ‘hate crimes’, which is what they are.

GKD · 13/07/2024 10:36

Some ppl want to purely focus on the racial religious element.

I’m not saying it should be ignored, but if we focus purely on the racial/religious aspect and not social/economic/regional of victim/perpetrator, plus victim profile
then nothing will change right?

@ToadOfTheThreads what would you like to see happen? How do you think CSE and grooming gangs should be interrupted in practical terms?
How would you like the problem to be dealt with?

For example (if it’s not happening already) I’d like to see more police on the streets, especially around relevant economies.
More education for children, more support for looked after disadvantaged children, more resources within the child focused sector so they can respond to and reduce vulnerable children. More multi agency interaction.
More parental education. As seen with 3 girls and what we know of the child profiles these children are often not properly cared for.

More public education around what grooming is and what a vulnerable child is and looks like. not sure how you do this but as a whole we need to interrupt the culture of VAWG.

Maybe a publicised hotline with associated task force for reporting. Ppl will have seen those men preying on children and did nothing.

What ideas do you have?

Education of communities where there is a widespread perception that white/black, Christian or non-religious girls are seen as inferior, meat, slags, prostitutes, dirt, etc, towards tolerance, respect and compassion around cultural differences, and for this kind of hatred and prejudice to become taboo, in the same way that racism/religious intolerance is taboo in the other direction.

For racially and religiously aggravated grooming, rape, exploitation to carry a heavier sentence as hate crimes.

What relevance does this have to anything?!! Unless you are weirdly trying to say the girls were the true offenders?

No, I was responding to the OP's statement thst the majority of offenders were British Pakistani.

That statement is true! I'm talking about the majority of the offenders that the police ignore! The police have openly stated in reports that they did not act on many cases of rapes due to them been perceived to be racist.

I think you’ve got fixated on one example in the media. The majority of perpetrators and victims are white. Quite why they don’t get the same coverage is another question

You really didn't read my post did you! This is about the police, social services and local councils ignoring the grooming gangs because they where Asian.

Stop making excuses.

You’d spend resources educating an entire community (which community, all men?) against beliefs that the vast vast vast majority don’t believe in?

seems a bit simplistic and narrow to be honest.

I don’t think the issue can be solved with one method.

Look, there are plenty of education campaigns around telling people not to be racist, posters on tubes saying ‘racist abuse will not be tolerated’, etc, people visiting schools to educate kids, etc, - even though the majority of kids are not racist and wouldn’t dream of perpetrating race hate crimes. Why the apathy about educating people in communities where it is commonplace enough to regard white or black Christian or non-religious girls as inferior, unclean, dirty, slags, prostitutes, etc, that these racially and religiously targeted grooming gangs bloom?

There are many people, yourself included it seems, who do not want the racial and religious nature of these crimes addressed in a targeted way. If these young men weren’t raised in a culture of thinking of white young girls as unclean slags, they would be less likely to feel comfortable to be part of it.

The police were lying to excuse their own prejudice against the working class girl victims.

The police in this country have admitted they’re institutionally racist, there is no way they would be afraid of race relations.

Your OP is a study in hypocrisy, starting off by saying it’s not about race and then going focusing solely on British Pakistanis. A Home Office report stated that the majority of grooming gangs are white.

Referring back to my post at 8:31, @Meraas, how would they know?

In case you missed it, that was the result of an FoI request to the Office for National Statistics about the stats from 2000/2020, and brought the response:
"Unfortunately, we do not hold data on victims and perpetrators of grooming gangs"

That's my point exactly... This has to be tackled with mandatory prison sentences on all rapists.

Are you Muslim?

You seem to think the British Muslim community is seeped in thinking outsiders are subpar?
Do you have personal experience of this?

The signs on the tube etc are not aimed at one particular community, they are universal.

It seems to be that the only action you want is for the Muslim community to be educated on CSE/A, which for the most part would mean shouting into an echo chamber.

You realise that it wouldn’t stop it right?

Well.

Rape has been all but legalised across the board.

Currently I think any prosecution and sentencing would be an improvement on what we have.

Didn’t Boris Johnson refer to investigating such crimes as spaffing money up the wall?

Hopefully this attitude will change and abusers/rapists will be removed from our streets.

I honestly don't think groomers/rapists are going to change their viewpoint. they know what they're doing is vile ... What are you going to say to them in education?

Don't groom children because it's wrong? They know all of that...

I would just say anyone caught of grooming/rape should have a mandatory sentence of X years with no possibility of parole.

I'd say that should also be relevant for other serious crimes like murder ..

However I don't think this will happen.

I think the whole world is failing women when it comes to rape/grooming children.

It's everywhere in USA and Europe, I went to Japan a few years ago and they have a major problem their with Japanese men grooming school children, and it's completely normalised there... However it's Japan, so no shock there.

TheHateIsNotGood · 13/07/2024 18:15

I haven't voted because I had hoped that the many failings that allowed this to happen so widely has led to lessons being learned and that 'grooming' has become a red flag indicator throughout all public service practices.

If this isn't the current case and that there are specific areas where these 'grooming gangs' are currently flourishing I, and many others, would like to know.

You could easily have a campaign which brings to light the fact that thinking of white girls as unclean slags is racist and will not be tolerated and that sexual violence towards girls where race and religion factor will carry a heavier sentence and treated as a hate crime.

Currently, the majority believe that targeting ‘white’ people or people who don’t follow a particular religion, is not racist or hate. The prevalent view is that only white people are capable of racism or religious intolerance. This needs to change. Thinking of people as ‘unclean’ if they don’t share your religion is religious intolerance and disrespectful.
