To wish Sir Keir and his wife would not hold hands when working

They've arrived in Washington DC on official business clutching hands like the Macrons, the Obamas and the Sussexes.

AiBU to find it a bit cringey?

And before anyone asks, yes I do have bigger things to worry about but I fancy a chat.

but its great that the op mentions them on this thread. means their up there with the PM and an ex president.
(yet the op said they were not bashing)

I don't think anyone would dispute they are high profile, sadly for all the wrong reasons.

That’s kind of bossy of you. OP did state she knows there are bigger things, she just fancied a chat.

Yep. What’s with people getting all insulting over this anyway ie this post

Jesus wept get a life OP.

ultracrepidarianna · 10/07/2024 12:12

You missed this bit, didn’t you. Stop telling people what they are allowed to chat about in a chat forum.

And before anyone asks, yes I do have bigger things to worry about but I fancy a chat.

Can’t stand it when posters tell others what to do as if they’re the thread police.

MrHarleyQuin · 10/07/2024 12:19

I don't think KS and Victoria can win. If it's the convention for leaders and their partners to hold hands and they didn't the press would be asking why they are not holding hands as everyone else did?

Janiie · 10/07/2024 12:20

Mulhollandmagoo · 10/07/2024 12:16

I think its nice. They are two people who have been catapulted into a much more public lifestyle than they're used to, they probably find it quite intimidating so to have a bit of moral support from each other is nice. I would probably be the same

Catapulted? He campaigned for it, it can't have been a shock. You make out he's like a winner or the XFactor and had no idea what life in the public eye would be like.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 10/07/2024 12:20

BustingBaoBun · 10/07/2024 11:11

I'm confused why KS is getting criticism for this when Sunak, Johnson, Major, Cameron, Obama, Biden, all have been filmed holding hands with their other half.
If it's wrong for Starmer, it's wrong for them too

Exactly. It's hardly a pass the smelling salts moment. They all do it, they have been thrust into International meetings not even a week after the election, so what? They are doing what other Leaders and their spouses do.

I'm showing my age a bit here 😁but does anyone remember a TV series called Hart to Hart? It starred Stefanie Powers and Robert Wagner as a married couple working as detectives? Anyway, that's what comes to mind whenever I see these couples who work together and go everywhere hand in hand 😆

Absolutely I do! 😁

Its sweet when understated. Cringey when overstated.

ultracrepidarianna · 10/07/2024 12:21

It’s all PR. They are trained in body language. Holding hands basically shows stability.

MrHarleyQuin · 10/07/2024 12:21

Of course it's a shock. You can prepare all your life but nothing would quite prepare you for being quite so in the public eye as being the Prime Minister.

Unless you'd been Princess Diana in a past life, perhaps.

Newusernameforthiss · 10/07/2024 12:22

You're right, it would be much better if they did a full on back of the bike sheds style snog WITH TONGUES and he grabbed her bum 👍 maybe while shouting "article five this, Sunak," and flicking the Vs

In all seriousness, it's a bit weird they bring spouses to these meetings, but a handhold is a nice coupley gesture that isn't too cringe so fine by me 😂

It's still a huge adjustment for them, their lives are completely different. It will take some getting used to, particularly for his wife.

Hoppinggreen · 10/07/2024 10:45

They held hands not genitals, its entirely appropriate and quite nice

😂 this made me laugh out loud.

Quite. You'd think they presented like Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker. Urgh.

Agreed. My mum used to say, couples who act overly affectionate in public constantly are usually trying to hide the fact that there are problems in the marital home.

beryldaperil · 10/07/2024 12:28

Let's support them with holding hands, along with the Obamas, the Macrons etc of this world who are married and showing that marriages are good for society. The Starmers, the Obamas and the Macrons all chose well. And that should be celebrated.

Marriages are good, healthy and to be celebrated.

dutysuite · 10/07/2024 12:32

Yes nice in private but not at work, and why are spouses there?

beryldaperil · 10/07/2024 12:33

Thank you @Longma , that is a lovely collage!

Good grief @OP. Let there be love! 🎵

Tittyfilarious · 10/07/2024 12:36

I don't mind them doing it I thought I'd read somewhere that his wife doesn't like the limelight .my dh doesn't always hold my hand everywhere but if we are at something like a works party and he knows i don't feel comfortable he's either holding my hand or has an arm around me to help

SpringYay · 10/07/2024 12:37

Why is this so important to you? I'm more concerned about how he performs as Prime Minister, not that he holds his partner's hand in public. Seriously, there is far more to be concerned about.

TheFairyCaravan · 10/07/2024 12:39

I can’t walk unaided so with that comes not bejng able to walk hand in hand with DH. It’s one of the things I miss the most. Let anyone who wants to hold hands crack on, because you never know when it might be taken away.

MadameMassiveSalad · 10/07/2024 12:39

Meh

Cantalever · 10/07/2024 12:39

Totally agree with you OP. Its unprofessional if he is at work, and why is he taking his wife to work anyway? Will we be treated to seeing Rachel Reeves hand in hand with her husband when she is working? Let's hope not. The Starmer thing smacks of woman as appendage.

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 10/07/2024 12:39

Not at all. I do find it utterly reprehensible that Rihsi Sunak kept his billionaire wife hidden away from all of us though, because apparently she has more important things to do (hoarding her unspeakable, revolting wealth that even a small part of which would eradicate child poverty in the UK) than take her place in number 10.

whoamI00 · 10/07/2024 12:40

YABU, I think you may just dislike them
