I wouldn’t buy used make up even if it’s only been used once.

Because of contamination. I wouldn’t want something that someone has used, products have a use buy once opened and exposed to oxygen too, you might be able to give it away on the Olio app rather than waste it though.

broccolienthusiast · 07/07/2024 08:55

Because it's gross and unhygienic

iamtheblcksheep · 07/07/2024 08:55

That’s revolting. I don’t know how long it’s been open or what you’ve put inside. Vinted say no for a reason. Put it in the bin if you don’t intent to use it

Londonrach1 · 07/07/2024 08:55

You can't sell second hand even if used once makeup as your bacteria on it. You can give it away and it's the persons choice to use it. However id throw it if you don't want it.

clary · 07/07/2024 08:56

Yeh I sell makeup and skincare but only if it is brand new (unwanted bits from Advent calendars etc). Who would buy used makeup?

If I have had a spritz (of a fragrance) or a swipe (maybeeee - with an eyeshadow) I'll gift it to a friend (telling them obvs). Tbh if it's lippy or any kind of skincare I'll bin it.

Lostworlds · 07/07/2024 08:57

Sorry no one wants anything used as it’s not hygienic, doesn’t matter if only been used once.

KimberleyClark · 07/07/2024 08:57

Because it’s unhygienic.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/07/2024 08:57

I would never buy second hand make-up - yuk!

Spirallingdownwards · 07/07/2024 08:58

Ugh. And as much as I hate this word the one that springs to mind is "minging"

turnipsarelush · 07/07/2024 08:59

Are you serious? It's hard because no one wants to buy use make up.

ThePoshUns · 07/07/2024 08:59

Eww I wouldn't want to buy second hand make up thank you.
Grim.

DazedAndKerfuddled · 07/07/2024 08:59

Even only being used once bacteria is a thing... also they have expiration dates 🤷🏻‍♀️

Stompythedinosaur · 07/07/2024 08:59

Because it isn't hygienic!

Coffeerum · 07/07/2024 09:00

Surely it’s obviously OP? Why would anyone want to out something on their face that someone they don’t know has broken the seal on and done who knows what? They don’t know what you’ve done to it, how long it’s been open or actually on a basic level how much you’ve used.

People on Vinted are very liberal with the “worn once” description and it’s rarely true.

Tartfullodger · 07/07/2024 09:02

Used make up is never going to sell. I once bought a travel bag with toiletries inside. When I got home the stick deodorant had what I hoped to god was only arm pit hairs stuck to it because the only other option was far more grim. Binned Instantly. It was gross.

Bleurfghjj · 07/07/2024 09:03

People do buy swatched make up but you’re just in the wrong place. Try dedicated facebook groups.

Bonjovispjs · 07/07/2024 09:03

Because it's gross 🤢 How do you not see that?

JulietSierra · 07/07/2024 09:03

Anything like that I give to my daughter, Mum or a close friend. Can’t imagine a stranger wanting to buy my opened and used makeup.

fieldsofbutterflies · 07/07/2024 09:03

Why would anyone want to buy someone's used make-up? 😬

Gingernaut · 07/07/2024 09:05

You can't sell it for the same reason retailers won't take back opened cosmetics or personal care items - HYGIENE

Take it to a recycling bin in Boots or Superdrug

PinkiOcelot · 07/07/2024 09:07

Would you buy and use someone else’s used makeup?

Baconking · 07/07/2024 09:09

I think there is a market for it, especially when you look at the cost of some brands.
There will be people who can't afford big name brands but still would like the make up and can buy it at 10-25% of the original price when it's almost new.

Mumsnetters are unlikely to be the target market but maybe students.

You can't even give a sprayed once perfume away. I ended up binning a whole Jo Loves perfume set.
Not everyone has friends or family to pass things on to

FTPM1980 · 07/07/2024 09:11

Erm hygiene
I don't share make up and wouldn't even accept part used freebies
