Our local Tesco has a box for unfinished makeup. Not sure what they do with it but it’s better than wasting it.

MrsSlocombesCat · 07/07/2024 12:55

I've sold secondhand makeup on eBay.

Rosscameasdoody · 07/07/2024 12:56

God no. So unhygienic.

Used make up is never going to sell. I once bought a travel bag with toiletries inside. When I got home the stick deodorant had what I hoped to god was only arm pit hairs stuck to it because the only other option was far more grim. Binned Instantly. It was gross.

That is absolutely hideous.

Surely no one would use deodorant on their pubes- Would they?

Second hand cosmetics - nope.

Haha this. I'm very relaxed about a lot of things and even I wouldn't buy used make up. It's in the same category as used nightdresses in charity shops...grim as 😄

Birdingbear · 07/07/2024 13:06

Not hygienic. People have no idea if it's contaminated. You wouldn't be allowed to take it back to a shop once bought for this reason.

Used only once might as well be used a hundred times. They would no more buy that than someone’s used knickers (even though they’ve only been worn once and washed).

Edited

Off topic, but my mil once gifted me a pack of used underwear for Christmas. She said that they weren’t comfortable on her, so she thought they might fit me better! Followed up by saying “it’s fine I washed them”! I binned them on my way home. 🤢

behindthemall · 07/07/2024 13:20

Because it’s disgusting.

MrsSunshine2b · 07/07/2024 13:21

The same reason shops can't sell a sandwich that's only had on bite taken out of it. Seriously OP, this has to be a wind-up.

SiobhanSharpe · 07/07/2024 13:22

Deliberate contamination or tampering aside, how long would bacteria (living organisms which need specific conditions to survive like warmth and moisture) actually persist on say, powder eyeshadow or pressed powder blush?
Just curious.
Incidentally I have certainly sold part used bottles of perfume in the 'vintage fragrances' section of eBay. They usually do very well as they are generally unobtainable new or have had the formulation changed so they no longer smell the same as they used to.

3luckystars · 07/07/2024 13:23

There is a growing market for this, for people who use the make up without touching it (like make up artists using q-tips etc.) and damaged boxes but new products but I personally would not touch it in case I got an eye infection.

I would not buy it either.

I wouldn't buy it.🤢🤢

Back21970 · 07/07/2024 14:00

I’ve bought lightly swatched makeup items before on both Ebay and Vinted.

Got a Chanel blusher recently and a lipstick because I wanted to try the shades and was too stingy to pay full price.

I use a brush with lipsticks so don’t think it’s any more gross than using a tester in store.

Can see though with some items there might be hygiene issues.

Flopsy145 · 07/07/2024 14:00

I would buy from a trusted friend who may e got the wrong shade or something, but I wouldn't buy off vinted unless it was very clearly sealed/original packaging etc. You don't know how long they've had it opened for, could be a year and it's off.

Samthedog71717 · 07/07/2024 14:04

Nobody wants mingin dead skin cells and bits of eyelash. Urrrgh

turnipsarelush · 07/07/2024 14:34

I wouldn't buy used perfume- could be fake or watered down or full of novichock

pasturesgreen · 07/07/2024 14:39

Bleurgh. Nobody is so desperate they want your used make up, no matter how much you originally paid for it.

Smoothie23 · 07/07/2024 14:59

Palettes: Instead of using products directly from their original containers, makeup artists often use a clean spatula to transfer products like foundation, lipstick, and creams onto a palette. This practice prevents contamination of the main product by limiting its exposure to air and touch.
@OperationGoldenDawn

Strange to title this part Palette and then talk about creams and lipsticks.

Most of the blushes, powders, highlighters, eyeshadow are in pressed powder

LikeToBeOnABeachRightNow · 07/07/2024 15:35

I personally wouldn't buy it, but I'm sure they used to sell testers. People also use testers.

Apologies my error.

Coconutter24 · 07/07/2024 15:58

Because that’s gross, who would want to buy second hand make up, totally unhygienic

TheKeatingFive · 07/07/2024 16:06

Not for selling, but giving away/swapping slightly used make up should be more normalised. Things like blushers / bronzers would be pretty low risk for infection, I imagine.

luckylavender · 07/07/2024 16:13

No way would I buy that
