I have seen make up recycling boxes in Tescos

I have seen make up sold in charity shops & car boot sales, but for not much money

Sorry you can there are dedicated Facebook marketplace pages and also you can sell on depop. I have bought everything from lipsticks to fake tan. with lipsticks just cut the top off and spray with disinfecting. videos on YouTube how to do it
make up artists don't buy brand new make up for every person they work on do they ?

Make up artists use disposable brushes, pallets and such so the physical make up item never touches the client.

no they don't the one disposal items them use is the mascara and lip brush. everything else is washed and disinfected after every client.
most make up artists like specific make up brushes that usually cost a fortune. so they are not going tor throw away their goods tools. some of the most top rated make up artists have had their make up brushes for years. they are cleaned sanitised and well looked after

Peonies12 · 07/07/2024 10:41

just List it but write in the description you’ve used it once? That’s what I’ve done and stuff has always sold. But only works for pricey brands

fieldsofbutterflies · 07/07/2024 10:42

Wexone · 07/07/2024 10:25

yoi can do it yourself again when you buy it. it's not hard plenty of disinfecting sprays you buy -boots sell them. trays and pots to decant stuff. you tube to see how to do it. you can clearly see from pics the condition its in. most of time is like op used once. foundation bought wrong shade.

I just wouldn't trust make-up brought from some random online - I'd rather spend the extra and buy something I know hasn't been used by someone else.

that's fine your allowed that choice but there is a huge market out there and its so wasteful to throw it al away. its a way for some people who can't afford it normally to get brands or if its a discontinued shade or something they can get it again

I mean, I was just answering the question, lol.

I'm sure some people do buy it, but OP was wondering why it didn't sell - hygiene is one pretty obvious reason IMO.

Edited

The MUA who did my wedding make up used disposable items for mascara, lips and around my eyes.

Even if they're washing brushed the physical make up item isn't touching the client. They're not using the product's applicator to apply it directly.

It’s not selling though.

ops one is not selling as its not on the right platform. there is dedicated pages and platforms that's sell them she needs to use them pages

Ohnobackagain · 07/07/2024 10:59

@elvive seen similar stuff on ebay, wouldn’t buy it myself though …

GinBlossom94 · 07/07/2024 11:00

Probably about 5 years ago there were loads of makeup selling sites on fb, yes people DO buy secondhand makeup, UKMA Selling was one but I've left them all now so unsure if it's still going or not

DodoTired · 07/07/2024 11:05

Oh come on, there WILL be people willing to risk it and buy it cheaply, but reseller platforms don’t permit it because of potential liability because indeed it can be contaminated etc. They don’t want to be dealing with product liability issues

Rewis · 07/07/2024 11:06

I'd only buy used make up from someone I know well. Maybe if it was a spray or something.

Createausername1970 · 07/07/2024 11:07

Because, bluntly, you are an unknown quantity on the internet, you could be someone with a desire to inflict pain, you could have pissed on it and put rat poison in it.

Assuming you are not psychotic, just offer it for free to friends and family. They know you and can see the item. If there are no takers then bin it.

35965a · 07/07/2024 11:07

If it’s an expensive brand then try Facebook, many buy and sell makeup groups

flyingcats · 07/07/2024 11:08

Try facebook groups that are specifically for that. I would not buy it, but I know there are groups for it

OP was wondering why it is not ALLOWED to be sold on Vinted. Im sure it would sell quickly if allowed and priced right

Politicians247UnderwearExtinguishingService · 07/07/2024 11:13

Either: click the ‘new’ button on vinted, then explain in the comments OR sell as a bundle on marketplace.

I HATE it when people use false or deliberately misleading descriptions to reel you in and waste your time.

People do it on eBay a lot - where they'll list the price of, say, new curtains very low, and then you find that's the price for a 3cm square 'sample' of the fabric; or it turns out that the stated 'sale' price is to hire the item for a week and not to buy it for keeps. It's very annoying, dishonest and thoroughly disreputable.

CocoapuffPuff · 07/07/2024 11:13

I'd buy from someone I knew and trusted but a stranger? Never. You've no idea of they're a manky git, or if they've got any infections that could pass on via the product. That's like buying a sandwich with a bite taken out. No.

willWillSmithsmith · 07/07/2024 11:14

Wexone · 07/07/2024 10:54

Well that’s the solution to her problem then. 👍

user1471457354 · 07/07/2024 11:15

If it was expensive, there is likely to be a facebook group for selling/swapping so may be worth trying to find one and see if you can sell via that.

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 07/07/2024 11:15

Infections, bacteria, weirdos putting stuff in it.....
The list goes on!

Thatsfrenchforstopahorse · 07/07/2024 11:16

I’ve bought second hand makeup off eBay. Not lipstick or mascara obviously. But anything in a tube would be fine for me.

But I also bought half a tube of expensive nipple cream when I had a baby because I knew I’d probably only need it for a couple of weeks.

Perhaps I’m a skank 😬

MartyFunkhouser · 07/07/2024 11:20

Why on earth are you trying to sell it? No-one will buy it. Bin it or give to a friend.
