That I find this unsettling?

Even DH raised an eyebrow but prepared to be told to lighten up.

We're away for a few days camping next week and so today I checked out the campsite map to see where everything was located in relation to our pitch.

I know it's almost certainly tongue in cheek but past experiences do leave me feeling wary when using loo/shower facilities.

Yeah, I do need to lighten up!

I'm male and personally I would be complaining to the office and suggesting that if they encourage peeping toms, if anything was weird for !y wife, nieces or other females I camp with...I'd batter the Tom and them...it's just not funny

OdeToBarney · 06/07/2024 22:03

WTF? They wouldn't be getting my business 🤢

In a Carry On film = maybe.

In a 2024 professional document = absolutely no way.

Clafoutie · 06/07/2024 22:08

I would be cancelling and telling them why. This would really put me off going there.

katebushh · 06/07/2024 22:16

Christ, that's so messed up.

Haveyouseenmyinsertitemhere · 06/07/2024 22:20

I'm a massive fan of camping.

I'm not someone easily offended or 'pearl-clutchy'.

And yet, I really dislike this! Not funny at all and makes me wonder about the campsite.

HelloVeritas · 06/07/2024 22:24

Twatty, apologies as I think I misunderstood your original comment x

I didn't want to include image of entire campsite map as it includes various features (river, specifically named cafe etc), that would be identifying. But the map itself is very specific to this particular campsite.

I hadn't realised the sketch itself had been doing the rounds so that is interesting.

It looks as if the campsite owners saw the image, liked it and decided to incorporate it into their own map. Baffling!

Sounds more than likely OP

I would cancel the booking and tell them why.

That is so inappropriate.

I agree with this.

It isn't a joke. There is nothing funny about it at all.

FangsForTheMemory · 06/07/2024 22:28

That will actually put ideas in the head of a certain kind of man.

Differentstarts · 06/07/2024 22:30

Yanbu that's just creepy

TwattyMcFuckFace · 06/07/2024 21:57

No, there are loads of toilet signs like that on the internet.

It's a common stock image.

Pleased to say I've never seen one

who uses them, what for?

@HelloVeritas I would cancel. Freaks.

GruntledGoblin · 06/07/2024 22:32

Ugh. That's horrible. Definitely drop them a line and link to this thread.

Mynaddmawr · 06/07/2024 22:33

I'm with you, thats not funny at all! I would ask them what they are playing at when you stay. It doesn't have to be confrontational but it needs bringing up 🤮

Thedayb4youcame · 06/07/2024 22:35

@HelloVeritas It looks as if the campsite owners saw the image, liked it and decided to incorporate it into their own map.

And this is where I struggle so very much in modern day society...on the one hand, we have to be so careful legally because of people's rights and laws that are in place to protect them.

On the other hand, there seems to be a culture of being "your authentic self", quirky, whacky, off-the-wall, or whatever you want to call it.

I much preferred it when society had standards that we adhered to accordingly, but without benchmarks to work to, it's easy to see how this sort of thing happens.

Ironically, if this picture featured in a sitcom today, I bet OFCOM would know about it.

MiniPumpkin · 06/07/2024 22:51

voyeurism is a deviant sexual preference. It’s not something to be put on a sign
yanbu

ScrapeMyArse · 06/07/2024 23:25

Jfc how would you explain that to your kids?

Makes voyeurism look like jokes. Gives boys the idea it's something boys and men are doing and girls the message that it's an expected scenario, rather than a moment to dial 999.

Nevermind that male pattern sexual offending is known to escalate. Today's voyeur could be tomorrow's rapist and worse.

Would the campsite use a logo that made a joke out of the harassment due to any other protected characteristic? Of course not! And if they had they'd have been cancelled a thousand times over by now. But misogyny is always overlooked. It's too deeply entrenched.

Offensive humour cam be funny....but not when it punches down. The woman doesn't "win" in this scenario.

TBH it would be just as offensive if it was a woman looking over the shower to another person of either sex. Ditto a man to a man.

I would email them and tell them what you think, and ask them if they are endorsing voyerism or even advertising it as part of their "ethos".

I would seriously not take children there - this is the kind of normalised misogyny that was all around when I was growing up in the 60s. It takes a lot of effort to shake off. It suggests the people who run the site are a bit grim. They doubtless think it's 'hilarious' (and probably complain "you can't say anything these days" when they want to be racist into the bargain.

I would personally want to camp somewhere else.

saveforthat · 07/07/2024 08:56

Where is it? There is no harm in outing them here.

HelloVeritas · 07/07/2024 17:06

Thanks everyone- we've decided to book elsewhere. DH is furious, more so than me which has surprised us both. I think I'm just so used to this attitude though, which in itself is rather depressing.

It looks like a fabulous little set up though, right on a river with a boatyard and what looks like a lovely cafe with lots of great reviews.

OP posts:
Waitingfordoggo · 08/07/2024 10:10

Please let them know why you cancelled @HelloVeritas. They might be forced to drag themselves into the 21st Century if they realise they’re losing bookings because of their offensive signage.
