Why does his Google history show he was at an industrial estate at night

Last night I was on Dh’s phone-not snooping…initially at least. I was turning lullaby music off that he and our dc had fallen asleep to.
It showed the travel history of where he’d been/been driving etc. I just thought it was quite interesting at first, don’t think I have it on my phone or if I do, no idea how to access it! I started looking and it was all pretty boring-travel to work, certain shops, cafes etc, a friends house. One entry from last Sunday shows him going out in the evening driving for 30 minutes, it says here no location/location not shown. Then from around 10.30-11.30 pm, it shows a location and when I looked at it, it’s an industrial estate. This is really strange isn’t it?! Making me so paranoid, what would you make of it?

Have you asked him yet?

HarryKanesDrool · 06/07/2024 22:06

Geocaching! (but more likely to be a hooker/drugs)

MsPoppoff · 06/07/2024 22:08

Please don’t worry. It will be something totally mundane. Google travel history can be slightly inaccurate so it could easily be the case that there’s a petrol station (possibly new?) close by - perhaps situated behind one of the offices?

There is even a disclaimer on the Google Travel history site that says..

the location accuracy and reliability vary depending on various factors

Or it’s something totally innocent! If you looked at mine today it would show me parked up in a lay-by behind a shopping centre.
Drug deal? Dogging?
No, I just pulled in so could I eat a sneaky McDonalds.

Nachosanddips · 06/07/2024 22:08

@Whothefuckdoesthat Its the first time I looked at it, haven’t looked before as didn’t realise it came up or so detailed

Poor mobile signal round here means we can be on an industrial estate 5 miles away, or not, when in our living room. Is quite amusing.

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 06/07/2024 22:10

Sorry only read your posts OP, but is it Google timeline you're looking at? If so it's dreadful at accuracy, and chucks in missing journeys every so often too, just for fun.
I often look through mine, purely because it comes up on my phone, and couldn't for the life of me remember going to five guys at 1pm on Wednesday. I only go with the kids, and obviously they'd have been in school. Turns out I wasn't, I was in Sainsburys that was a good mile or two away. Please don't panic.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 06/07/2024 22:12

I mean - is he a cheat? Bit bizarre to be automatically jumping to conclusions. Could he have stopped as he got a call. I don’t know. Lots of reasons - just ask him. YAB a bit ridiculous to be hypothetically guessing and sending yourself into a tizz for basically the unknown.

Tbry24 · 06/07/2024 22:13

Maybe he went out for a takeaway then pulled over there and ate it. Myself and my DP have random drives together or alone all the time, a few weeks ago we went for a picnic plans changed and we ate our sandwiches on a bank with pretty flowers on an industrial estate we don’t even know about 30miles away.

More importantly I don’t understand the going out bit, does this mean you don’t even know if he’s gone outa. I do find that strange as we either call up to one another or leave a note if we pop out day or night.

swimsong · 06/07/2024 22:14

Nachosanddips · 06/07/2024 19:27

@sandragreen Its not every other night, he goes to his friends for a couple of hours a couple of times a week
I seriously didn’t think this was odd

It's not odd at all.
To me, it seems odd to think that it's odd

orchiddottyback · 06/07/2024 22:15

@Nachosanddips People really need to educate themselves on technology.

Your husbands phone will usually be recording its location via GPS using a cluster of satellites to triangulate its position and is pretty accurate to a few meters most of the time.

When a majority of mobiles phones loose the GPS signal, down too a multitude of every day factors, the phone will attempt to find its location via triangulation of telephone masts. Which can vary vastly from a Meters to a few Kilometers but usually a radius around 500 m depending on how many phone masts it can see to triangulate the position.

In built up areas it may only see one, so the location its supplying too google is way way off. Which is why you occasionally see, silly locations on google you never were.

So to start accusing him is fairly pointless, unless you can see he is at that location regularly for long periods of time, it's a location glitch.

ByCupidStunt · 06/07/2024 22:24

I would imagine a prostitute parks up there in an RV type vehicle with her partner/pimp/bodyguard in the driving seat and her in the back doing business.

Cyclebabble · 06/07/2024 22:33

Quite close to us there is a brewery on an industrial estate with a tap room at the side. DH has been there on occasion and I have been once. not really my sort of thing but I really would not think hookers or drugs unless DH had form for that sort of thing. On occasion maps can be slightly inaccurate, so again is ther anything close by. Easiest just to ask I guess.

Aglassaday · 06/07/2024 22:35

Strange

Summerflames · 06/07/2024 22:41

Mine showed me as being in Birmingham when I've not been there in years, I live in the north

onlyliquoranointsyou · 06/07/2024 22:43

Sometimes when I've just googled a shop or restaurant or place it'll come up with a notification later saying I visited it and ask me to rate it. Could it be that?

TuesdayWhistler · 06/07/2024 22:47

There's not a single person on this thread that confirm or deny where your OH was OP.

Popping out randomly to a garage, to me, is odd.

You also mention he drives to a friend's for beers and a smoke. Then comes home. Drinking and driving? Smoking weed and driving? Reckless and immature.

Slipping out the house and going to an industrial estate at night for an hour is frankly bizarre unless he knows the place and works there.

Google the area. If it has a name look it up in regard to prostitution or drugs. Check the area on a crime stats map, if they're a thing where you are. Might show arrests for dealing or Solicitation etc.

Ultimately though, theres one person who knows why he was there ...

SummerSnowstorm · 06/07/2024 22:51

Did you check his call log? Any chance he got a phone call from someone and pulled over to talk?

Whothefuckdoesthat · 06/07/2024 23:13

Sorry I didn’t say/mean I looked also on his phone a month ago, when I looked, I went back a month on the history, looked at the entries for around a month ago

Apologies, I misread this as you having looked at his phone a month ago, rather than you having gone back a month.

TortoiseWhoLovesStrawberries · 06/07/2024 23:21

It could be that Google is wrong, glitches happen.

I have my location history turned on and occasionally my Google Timeline goes 'bananas.' Not that long ago it showed me as being in the middle of Germany for two days running.... and coming back to the UK in between. I hadn't even left the country. Apparently, I was visiting a customer there (he doesn't live in Germany, he's in the UK) but his company name/location was showing up as being there.

Just last week it showed me as being somewhere else I'd never been to, and I wasn't even near to that location either. A bug in Google's location data is certainly a possibility.

Bunny44 · 06/07/2024 23:29

Nachosanddips · 06/07/2024 17:21

It’s very strange there’s only one entry there though if it was something regular and dodgy? I may drive there at night but am quite scared to, tbh
There are cafes and petrol stations around but why stay an hour it’s odd
Hope it is a mistake
Should I keep trying to check his history without him seeing, if I ask he’d obviously turn it off

@Nachosanddips I've done a bit of stalking on Google maps when checking up on someone I was very worried about so can shed light from my own experience.

Sometimes if he has signal issues it might have recorded him being there longer than he actually was. As in Google chronology sometimes fills in assumed gaps in my experience. He may well have gone to get petrol. Did it show precisely where he was in the industrial estate? Usually the location is very exact so you can see where he was and maybe check out that precise location.

Maybe ask him, when did you last fill up the car last casually or something like that?

This sounds more like someone is logged onto your Google in these locations - is this possible? This sounds a bit too glitches in my experience

Slinkyminky22 · 06/07/2024 23:32

Just checked my location history for the first time in about a year (forgot it was a thing) and it was just so inaccurate I wouldn't rely on it for something serious!

I only checked over the past week, and every day there are errors. Even now it has me at an address a few streets away. You'll need to find out by other means, I think.

Twilight7777 · 06/07/2024 23:33

Drugs/sex worker

6pence · 06/07/2024 23:35

Can you access his messages or call history? I’d have to find out more now.

MeinKraft · 06/07/2024 23:39

More likely than dogging or shagging a prostitute in an RV while the pimp sits in the front Hmm is that his mates not allowed to smoke weed in the house anymore so they've gone and parked up to smoke.
