Why does his Google history show he was at an industrial estate at night

Last night I was on Dh’s phone-not snooping…initially at least. I was turning lullaby music off that he and our dc had fallen asleep to.
It showed the travel history of where he’d been/been driving etc. I just thought it was quite interesting at first, don’t think I have it on my phone or if I do, no idea how to access it! I started looking and it was all pretty boring-travel to work, certain shops, cafes etc, a friends house. One entry from last Sunday shows him going out in the evening driving for 30 minutes, it says here no location/location not shown. Then from around 10.30-11.30 pm, it shows a location and when I looked at it, it’s an industrial estate. This is really strange isn’t it?! Making me so paranoid, what would you make of it?

@sandragreen Its not every other night, he goes to his friends for a couple of hours a couple of times a week
I seriously didn’t think this was odd

My money he's gone there for a bit of peace and quiet for an hour with no wife asking questions or a child wanting attention. Who doesnt want a bit of chill time occasionally, totally alone?

But he could be chilling alone at home. OP is asleep in bed with their child. It is a bit odd he does this every other night…

Excuse my innocence- what are furries ?

You might regret asking…

Grown adults who dress up as animals. Usually cartoon style. They have heads and outfits for them. I won’t expand on why they do it. They have conventions and everything.

WirelessWendy · 06/07/2024 19:29

I'd go somewhere quiet to eat a burger without anyone in the family seeing me. Our local industrial estate has a late night kebab van.

Sometimes I go and sit in a layby with a coffee and an audiobook for a bit of peace and quiet. Generally not late at night, though.

Last month my google maps told me that I'd been in Portsmouth. I wasn't in Portsmouth.

So many responses spring to mind, but are you asking because you think I’m suggesting she check the bank for businesses with names like ‘Legover 4 U’?

Or because you didn’t read the bit about many food places working off industrial estates due to excessively high rents in the town centres? If his card was swiped at a business that sells food two minutes before he parked up, then it’s quite likely that he just wanted to enjoy a sneaky kebab without either sharing it or being told off for eating junk after he’d already eaten dinner. And then the OP has her answer and won’t need to either lose sleep, go investigating or start a row because she doesn’t trust her husband. Seems the most obvious first step to me.

I doubt there’d be many food places open on an industrial estate at 10.30pm on a Sunday night unless there are businesses with lots of people working overnight on it.

Also a 30 minute drive from home late at night just to get a kebab from a food van on an industrial estate is a just a little bit odd unless OP lives in a rural area with no food places nearby!

OP lives in an undisclosed location but not the UK so who the fuck knows. I doubt many other countries have Kebab vans on their industrial estates.

I guess you've never come across dark kitchens. They're commonly on industrial estates and occasionally do takeout.

There are dozens of them. Not the traditional kebab vans or cafes, but businesses who rent units and have a kitchen fitted, and people usually rely on Apps to buy food from them, or you can collect from them. They deliver til the early hours. And a good burger is a good burger.

Realistically, it could be any number of reasons from a technical error to something really nasty. I’m just of the opinion that you start by ruling out the simple, easiest to prove stuff before getting the big guns out.

sugarbyebye · 06/07/2024 19:36

As it's a one off, my betting is it's a technical glitch. If it was a regular occurrence, all the wild theories would stand.

How old is the kid? It might be time to start working on them sleeping on their own?

@EmilyGilmoreCardiganEnergy Sometimes he goes to his friends or the petrol station for cigarettes or a drive/beach. We’re not in U.K., in a hot place, it’s summer

In some countries, there are whole brothels on industrial estates that operate out of shipping containers.

Dependent on where you are, there might be 'motels' that are short-stay hotels for sex (I lived in Brazil, have stayed in several both for the main purpose and for a decent shower while travelling). Those are often on the edges of industrial estates.

Plus, as a PP mentioned, prostitutes often make pop-up brothels in industrial areas to cater for truckers and security guards, etc. They use caravans and suchlike. If there's a lot of traffic at night, you also find streetwalkers who will service their users in cars.

I'm not ruling out Pokémon, handbrake turns or random curiosity, mind you! I'd keep quiet and keep looking, if I were you. Can't see why you wouldn't mosey on down there on your night off, either. Keep your doors locked and nothing's going to happen to you.

If you can tell us which country, some MNers might have more relevant comments to make.

What does ‘Missing travel’ written in red with a question mark by it mean? This was before he arrived at the place he stopped at for just under an hour?

@Nachosanddips I don’t think it’s odd at all, completely normal in my world and it’s how my dh and I are, not everyone is just sat watching tv together every night

IFinishedTheBiscuits · 06/07/2024 20:00

When my son has run out of data on his phone, his location will only update when his phone picks up a WiFi signal. I have messaged him before thinking he's still at his girlfriend's house when he left half an hour before.

Could your husband have ran out of/turned off mobile data before he got to the industrial estate, but then connected to a WiFi signal from one of the businesses which updated his location? He might only been there briefly, for example to turn the car around, but his location didn't update until he got home. Can you see his journey home?

Failing that I would ask him a casual question about the industrial estate - say you need to go there, does he know where it is? And see what he says. He might say, yes I stopped there the other night. If he says he's never been then you know he's lying for some reason.

Summerholidays1 · 06/07/2024 20:01

Anything like a McDonalds nearby?

ChopSue · 06/07/2024 20:02

Well that’s me having nightmares about Furries

Balloonhearts · 06/07/2024 20:06

Mine currently thinks I'm in Broxbourne. I'm not. I'm in Ilford. I'd not put much stock by it tbh.

Pippetypoppity · 06/07/2024 20:07

Really upsetting for you if it is prostitute, dogging whatever but remember men can have sex with zero emotional involvement - just a biological urge. Maybe he’s frustrated with you being tired from baby or doesn’t want to pester or just doing it for selfish indulgence but - most importantly he’s not having an affair, he’s not hoping to replace or escape his current life and he probably loves you and your child as much as ever. Sorry Op. Stay strong and think of your life together and your darling child together.

mindutopia · 06/07/2024 20:10

Unless there is a back story, I don’t think this is all that odd really. You said he goes out with friends a few times a week. My guess would be he met a friend there, who has a unit and was there late at night (Dh would do this to help with working on a car or machinery), or there is a tiny micro brewery there (quite common actually in industrial estates), or he parked there to go somewhere else (friends house, pub, gym) because it was the easiest place to park late at night when all the parking is taken on the street.

Furries and hookers would not be where my mind went first. If it was my Dh, I’d assume he was picking up a tool or bit of equipment he was buying on Facebook marketplace, but we lead pretty ordinary lives!

Kinniewins · 06/07/2024 20:11

I haven’t read through everyone’s posts, but a lot mention prostitution, drugs etc.

it could be something as simple as he just wanted to sit and chill in his car alone.
i often go and sit on industrial estates or similar if I’m having a little time out.

EnglishBluebell · 06/07/2024 20:14

Sunsetcocktail · 06/07/2024 17:02

I mean, we’re all thinking dogging right? But in fact it’s probably something really boring, like he was practicing hand brake turns. Men can be weird

😁😁😁

Missgucci · 06/07/2024 20:15

Op where can you see this info ? I've just logged into my own Google maps and can't find any journeys I've done using google maps but I did manage to find apparently a favourite place with a star that ive never even been to before. How accurate is this info on google? How did you manage to find it, my google is in sync but the info does not show on my laptop 🤔

Lillers · 06/07/2024 20:16

I put this scenario to my dh and said, “So what do you reckon? Drugs or prostitutes?” And he said, “Kebab.”

@Morwenscapacioussleeves But to ask would mean I’d have to say I was going though his phone?

Well yeah - you have been going through his phone - you’re concerned that he’s being devious but don’t want to admit you’re doing the same?
