CF renting out our communal parking for Wimbledon!

WarsofWimbledon · 06/07/2024 12:20

I have NC as the location is outing. I live in a block of flats behind Wimbledon as in the tennis courts. I understand they host a large-ish summer event which is happening now.

Street parking has been suspended for the fortnight. Driving in general or trying to go anywhere locally is inadvisable.

This morning my DP alerted me to a large G Wagon in our front parking area which as well as being offensively large (cannot cope with Londoners having massive tanks) is not a resident’s. We can’t rule out that it’s a visitor (and someone did query a strange car last year which turned out to be visiting family (apparently)) but DP has seen people stumbling up the road in their tennis finery and getting into cars.

So we assumed these people were just chancing it - block of flats, hopefully no one notices.

Shortly thereafter I was at my garage about to go out when I woman in a car pulled up and asked me about flat 16’s parking space. She said flat 16 had put their space on Just Park! I said it’s communal - he doesn’t have a space!

DP enquired with our neighbour on the same floor as flat 16 and he thinks it’s a Portuguese guy with an Audi. His car isn’t here but regardless, it is communal parking for residents and visitors. There must be 20 flats and there are 12 parking spaces. Him not using a space does not entitle him to rent it out.

I looked on JustPark and there is a long term bloody listing for a space in our car park with 60 reviews!!! “Great parking for Wimbledon” etc.

Now what? I guess I report to our management agent but do I also take it up with JustPark? Given that there are currently two strange cars I suspect there may be even more renting out going on.

Shame they can't use public transport, bikes or taxis

Wow. I'd report to both. What happens if they turn up and there isn't a vacant space? It's unworkable all round.

This!

Sounds horribly annoying - we’re close enough to get residents’ parking permits so I feel your pain. Can you get onto JustPark and point out that it’s a communal spot and they don’t own it?

I did and they are looking into it.

we didn’t get parking permits this year - instead they have suspended parking on the road. Therefore if the car park gets full there isn’t actually anywhere for people who live here to park. So it’s even worse than if he had done it last year.

Have a look on Just Park.
They'll find you somewhere.

Jeez, lighten up.
What difference does it make who parks anywhere?
If there's room for you, why are you bothered?
Well done to whoever is making a few quid on Just Park.
😂

It makes a huge difference during these two weeks as they have suspended street parking and not provided permits

generally if car park heaving you can park outside on the road but even then i don’t want an amenity for the building being rented out by some twat

Yanbu

It is cheeky

Beautiful3 · 06/07/2024 13:30

That's incredibly selfish of him. Where are you all supposed to park? I'm glad you reported him. I hope they kick him out.

Had similar and Op I reported this to just park so persistently they banned the listing as they are supposed to check that the person does own the space. I sent them info that showed they do not and as the seller couldn’t verify it, JP did ban the listing in the end but I was relentless and did not give up 😂 every time a car came I called up JP and wouldn’t get off The phone until they raised a dispute and I kept reporting the listing. This boils my blood! (Someone was renting out other people’s spaces that they didn’t own and we live near an airport) I also reported to our management company

WarsofWimbledon · 06/07/2024 13:34

Just park seems to have removed the listing

@Menora wow surely they should be acting immediately in these cases to preserve the credibility of their platform!

Watch out as they can add it back on when they say they have ‘completed checks’ so I just kept reporting it

Damn
reporting to agent now

Sometimes they suspended it but if a car was in it, the seller still got the money didn’t they. Then they would open a case dispute that took ages for a response. But I did get them banned

FriNightBlues · 06/07/2024 13:37

No parking permits? 😫
(Yes, it really is that bad - parking is suspended for the fortnight and traffic wardens are out in force. A car on our street without a permit had two tickets by Tuesday)

Ermmm because 1 person cannot rent out communal parking spaces for profit!

Edited

Yeah it’s odd. I’m not sure if it’s council being crap and forgetting us as we’ve also not had the food waste caddies we were promised and they missed four recycling collections!!

but the orange cones make me think we just can’t park in the street this year

Block the cars in with a note on the windscreen so they leave bad reviews and hopefully nobody else will book. In the meantime get on to managing agent and flat 16

Don't confront the flat person directly or let them know it's you complaining, you could be poking a resentful hornet's nest unnecessarily.

Get as much photographic evidence of the cars parking there and the ad online, as you can as it will help to shut this down quickly. See if other residents you trust who use the car park are similarly inconvenienced and get them to help with photos too.

Send it all the the managing agent/It's their job to act and not to implicate you and ask them to quickly contact the parking company on the whole building's behalf. They have their own solicitors and can contact the flat and the Parking company with a really firm warning to stop immediately. Copy in the resident's association if you have one. (Or start one if you don't!)

The Agent should know if the flat resident are a freeholder /lessee or subletting ( which may not be legal) they certainly won't have rights to let out a communally owned car park as it sounds like they are letting out more than one space. It will be against the terms of their lease.

I'd ask MN to take out the flat number as its quite identifying.

I lived on Merton Road and rented my parking space out. We made several thousand pounds doing it. Maybe get in on the action?!

Can you read?

Of course don't do that. The person who purchased the parking space has done NOTHING wrong and doesn't deserved to be blocked in, for goodness sake.

But according to the OP, there are no designated spaces.

Scorchio84 · 06/07/2024 14:09

This stuff happens all the time at my OH's mams house, she lives really close to the airport, which in fairness is no help with it's limited car parking, this weekend travellers were told in advance that the spaces had sold out a week ago! So people have taken to parking at housing estates in & around the area, I understand the desperation, public transport to the airport is ridiculously inadequate but the residents are sick of it & it would piss me off too especially as nealy all households have two cars or a van so parking is tight enough

Definitly get onto your management company especially since he's bloody charging & it's not "just" people chancing their arm
