To not want floor wipes in same bag as cakes and ice cream

Engagebrain · 04/07/2024 18:41

Received my Ocado delivery today and my citrus floor wipes were in the same carrier bag as my cakes and ice cream. One of the floor wipes pack was leaking slightly. Although nothing was ruined I was charged for 7 carriers and there were only 6. Had there been 7 the wipes would have been in a separate carrier. Should I complain or shut up and stop moaning?

Ocado are excllent at processing returns and complaints and also refund the money paid for bags when you return the bag. Its annoying when stuff arrives damaged but its easily sorted.

Peonies12 · 04/07/2024 20:30

If you’re worried about chemicals, don’t use floor wipes. I use an Ecozone mop and hot water, works fine, and no waste.

Caroparo52 · 04/07/2024 20:31

Compain

Thepeopleversuswork · 04/07/2024 20:35

With kindness OP this really wouldn’t worry me in the slightest and I think you are (for understandable reasons) massively overthinking.

I really wouldn’t waste time complaining over this. You will get fobbed off and end up feeling more frustrated. Just let it go.

actually with ocado, I don't think Op will get fobbed off.

I'd absolutely complain. It's dangerous, and a hazard to health having chemicals alongside food. People on here are so bloody mean, but this is BASIC food safety. Would you all like it if your favourite restaurant stored their cleaning chemicals alongside their ingredients? The Environmental Health Officer sure as hell wouldn't be ok with it.

Yippiddy · 04/07/2024 20:39

I'd have taken a photo and asked for a refund for what was damaged. The bit I don't understand is why the OP started a thread about it.

I also complain if my fruit is mouldy. It takes two seconds to complain.

It's a non-issue.

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 04/07/2024 20:40

I am confused was anything ruined?

if it was complain. If not, then don’t

StankyMeg · 04/07/2024 20:40

Rinse packaging.

Eat cakes and ice cream.

The end.

BobandRobertaSmith · 04/07/2024 20:42

The wrong number of bags thing is my big bear. It seems petty to ask for a refund for 10p but I once totted up how many bags I had been overcharged for in a year and it was £14!

I believe the delivery driver packs the bags in the van so packing skills vary…

It’s easy to get a refund on the app from Ocado, even for things like under or over ripe fruit, squashed packaging etc They have great customer service.

anunlikelyseahorse · 04/07/2024 20:48

Urgh environmentally friendly packaging is shite! Honestly the other day, loads of custard creams had escaped their packing and were making a bid for freedom along a shelf! So I completely see that cakes (which very often are just in a cardboard sleeve and not wrapped in plastic, could easily become contaminated from leaking floor wipes (floor wipes always seem to hold more liquid than surface wipes) so yeh, no I wouldnt want to eat bleached cakes!
I had some sausages go free ranging not long ago, because the packing was useless, luckily I have a dog who enjoyed them, but it's such a bloody waste, and food is not exactly cheap.
I think it's fine to feel grumbly, especially if you were looking forward to a sweet treat. Brain tumours are shit, I hope you're receiving good care OP, I'm guessing you probably can't drive at the moment and reliant on home deliveries, so I really don't blame you for wanting to vent Flowers and more importantly chemical free CakeCakeCake

The bags are packed at the warehouse, the drivers don’t pack them. (I asked when I kept getting my bread squashed under 2L bottles of Coke Zero)
I did a feedback thing online and got an email saying they would do a bit of training at the warehouse that supplies my groceries and it got better. I think I was not the only one to experience very bad packing though.

I'm with you OP. My weekly delivery guaranteed has the raw meat in the same crate as my salad, fruit etc. Drives me bonkers. I called and complained in Jan, all raw meat should be in a red plastic bag to prevent contamination. This weekend, my raw chicken had leaked in the delivery crate with my fruit. I called again and they were very apologetic and refunded me the fruit as it all had to be thrown. I also told them I wouldn't take delivery of any fresh items in future if they are in with meat.

ChopSue · 04/07/2024 20:55

They pack chilled items and cupboard items separately in different colour bags so this wasn’t done right. It’s really easy to get a refund though, just do it through your account - all online using tick boxes and drop-down reasons, then you get a refund a few days later. You should get a refund for any items damaged.

Ocado CS is brilliant. They missed a whole bag off my shop a few weeks back and I did the usual online refund. CS somehow picked up that it was a lot I was missing, so they phoned me and suggested they deliver all the items the next morning so I wouldn’t go without for the week.

I also have home deliveries for health reasons and have found Ocado to offer the best service, plus they deliver in bags which makes it so much easier on the doorstep.

I wouldn't be happy with this and I don't have cancer as far as I know

Bertsmum22 · 04/07/2024 20:02

Adding the bit about brain cancer after is a bit harsh. However… am pretty sure even if you did somehow ingest the liquid which is highly unlikely unless you licked the bag, it won’t harm you!

Why is it a bit harsh?? As OP said no one should be happy with this

Applepencilplant · 04/07/2024 21:04

Sorry you’re not well OP. I think it will be fine. It’s quite unusual for Ocado to mix things like that. Sainsbury's shopping seem to be packed by toddlers.

Email them about the leakage. They should refund you the cost of the floor wipes.

redbluegreenyellowbrown · 04/07/2024 21:08

You realise you can go onto your order, click ask for refund, then fill in 1(/7) bags with the reason it was not delivered and they will refund the 10p for the bag you never got?

Or next delivery just tell the driver there are about 10 bags, and you will get £1 back for giving them back; 30p more than you paid in the first place...

Yes YABU

Screamingabdabz · 04/07/2024 21:09

Can’t believe so many people are so blasé about the condition of their food and would not bat an eyelid if it arrived damaged and tainted with cleaning product… wow. 🤯

Doesn’t need an email. You just click on the floor wipes and request a refund. There is a drop down menu where you can actually pick damages/leakage.

Flossflower · 04/07/2024 21:27

I have been using Ocado for years and years and on the whole I am very Happy with them. They have a good stock control system and you usually get what you order. However the packing can be really bad.
I have to own up and say I sometimes buy ready meals. These usually come on their side, so contents not in the right place. I particularly like Charlie Bigham’s and these are disastrous if left on their side. I have made many complaints.
If the meal is in a really bad condition I put in for a refund. I also put in a refund claim if I remember to count my carrier bags and there are some missing, which there usually is.

Newposter180 · 04/07/2024 21:30

I honestly just don’t think I’d have even noticed/registered this as an issue that warranted any thought.
