To not want floor wipes in same bag as cakes and ice cream

Received my Ocado delivery today and my citrus floor wipes were in the same carrier bag as my cakes and ice cream. One of the floor wipes pack was leaking slightly. Although nothing was ruined I was charged for 7 carriers and there were only 6. Had there been 7 the wipes would have been in a separate carrier. Should I complain or shut up and stop moaning?

Could have been worse, there are such things as pine scented floor wipes.......the horror.

pigsDOfly · 04/07/2024 18:59

What an odd thread.

Are people on here really saying that they'd be ok with eating cake or ice cream impregnated from the liquid from floor wipes?

If the floor wipes were leaking liquid and the cake box was damaged I imagine it's very likely there'd be some sort of cross contamination.

I wouldn't want to eat it either OP.

Vetiver · 04/07/2024 18:59

I wouldn’t want to eat cakes or ice cream with floor wipe chemicals all over them either and would request a refund

Londonrach1 · 04/07/2024 18:59

You are strange...unless the cake and wipes not in containers honestly can't see the problem

pigsDOfly · 04/07/2024 19:01

*impregnated with the liquid, that should be, not from the liquid.

Engagebrain · 04/07/2024 18:58

Thanks for that but it shouldn't really make a difference. Nobody would want to eat chemicals would they? People on here are quite rude.

💐 I think it does make a difference. Because people respond to what they read. But people would respond differently if they know the full story.

Lumpalicious · 04/07/2024 19:02

The issue isn’t that they were in the same bag, it’s that the wipes leaked. So that’s what you need to discuss with them, and request a refund for these and the cakes that were in the box damaged as a result.

Needmorelego · 04/07/2024 19:04

Ok I suppose the cakes could be affected so I wouldn't eat those but the ice cream should be fine.
It must be incredibly rare for a pack of wipes to leak though. Just bad luck.

You should order from Iceland instead. They don't charge for individual bags.

What do they do?

loropianalover · 04/07/2024 19:07

The wipes leaked so obviously just complain and get your refund. 🤨

BrucesTooth · 04/07/2024 19:11

In the same bag, see no issues, all packaged, not going to be an problem. Floor wipes leak onto other packages, a bit annoying, but since some folk wipe shopping (it did during COVID peak) then basically you've just disinfected the outside of your shopping. Then I'd just wipe it off and carry on, although appreciate if it means the wipes dry out they should refund that. The issue you have is that you had a damaged cake box. That would be an problem irrespective of the wipes since it means they may be damaged and/or got other stuff (and in this case the disinfectant) on them. So then fair enough get refunds/complain.

Piggiesarecute · 04/07/2024 19:11

Can't believe all the posters who are happy to have cleaning materials packed in the same bag as food items. When I'm packing my shopping I have a separate bag for eg washing up liquid, soap, wipes etc. Doesn't everyone?

Missmarple87 · 04/07/2024 19:11

YABU to buy floor wipes.
If you were that concerned about chemicals, a mop and bucket would do the same without them.

mrsm43s · 04/07/2024 19:11

I wouldn't be bothered by wipes and food in the same bag, but in this instance, it sounds like the packaging for the wipes and the cakes were both damaged, so I'd request a refund for them.

fetchacloth · 04/07/2024 19:11

I wouldn't accept this and would be requesting a refund for the whole bag that's been affected.
I've had Tesco deliveries before and they tend to put cleaning products in a separate bag away from food products.
Note to self not to use Ocado.😐

Totally agree, anything else would be unacceptable.

Bluemincat · 04/07/2024 19:15

But the OP said "nothing was ruined" and didn't mention that the cake container was broken until later. So it sounded like she was only worried that floor wipe fluid had got onto the outer containers of the cake and ice-cream, which really isn't an issue.

Once she explained that some of the fluid got into the cakes that's a different situation.

C152 · 04/07/2024 19:17

OP, there's no need to complain (unless you want to), just logon to your Ocado account, click on the 'request a refund' bit and tick the items you want a refund for (including 1 bag). They'll refund you without question.

GCAcademic · 04/07/2024 19:19

Ocado stuff is always packed terribly. I end up requesting a refund nearly every week because something is squashed, leaking or damaged. On the plus side, it's very easy to request.

Wonderwoman98 · 04/07/2024 19:21

BlueyandBingo · 04/07/2024 19:23

You can get a refund… and on the number of bags. It is super easy on the app. I do it all the time and stuff is often squashed etc

ItmeansIdontcare · 04/07/2024 19:23

The Tesco delivery drivers have started trying to cram as much as possible into the crates to save going back to the van. Last time the fresh food was being crushed by drain unblocker, toilet bleach and laundry capsules. I’ve had toilet bleach delivered leaking before so I’m not too happy about it. If they keep doing it I’m going to have to mention it to them. I don’t think YABU.

Is it the grown up thing to do to ingest the chemicals from floor wipes with one's cake?

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 04/07/2024 19:24

This is something to say “oh” or “huh” over and then move on with your life!
