Voting in an hour - tell me why I shouldn’t vote reform

This isn’t a wind up. I’ve done countless different quiz type things and the policies I most align to come out strongly reform. I would previously have been a Tory voter. I don’t like farage and I do feel prejudiced against reform from what is portrayed in the media - but their policies appeal to me. Anyone have any actual facts or glaring holes that I might have missed?

@HebburnPokemon what do they say about women’s rights? I hadn’t seen anything, so really do want to be educated. I approve of their stance on transgender ideology being banned in schools and women’s safe places?

Not sure how you can seriously consider voting reform when you haven’t even looked into the comments and actions of farage and numerous candidates regarding womens rights. You also need to remember they are highly unlikely to get into power so are saying a lot that’s completely un achievable

Namename12345562 · 04/07/2024 10:18

Just please don’t complain when they turn out to be the tories on steroids!

My paternal grandad came here legally and integrated. Adopted British cultural traits whilst preserving his own Indian/Sikh identity. He supported his children who chose to marry English people. His daughters were educated and not forced to marry cousins. He set up businesses and never once relied on the state.

Some people who come to this country seemingly hate the West.

Immigrants are not a monolith.

Edited

Obviously, I was answering someone who seems to think all immigrants are left wing and non-racists/xenophobic. Basically saying, "one of the Reform candidates where I am is non-British AND campaigns for Reform", as if that means Reform are not racist/xenophobic. So basically I agree with you. Immigrants are not monolithic, there are very conservative, racist/xenophobic immigrants just like they are people like that in the wider society. They will support any of the political parties, including Reform.

Almost a third think the OP isn't being unreasonable. Very interesting!

I have voted Reform because the NHS does need reform and we need limits on immigration.

Reform don't have a party whip so the MP you vote in for your constituency should listen and fight for your views and not for what their party tells them too.

Well what if their constituents have different or opposing views? Who does the MP 'fight for' if it turns out that all of the thousands of people they represent don't share a hive mind?

Well, obviously they'll tow the party - sorry, company - line, won't they?

PrincessOlga · 04/07/2024 10:20

"I would previously have been a Tory voter. I don’t like farage and I do feel prejudiced against reform from what is portrayed in the media - but their policies appeal to me."

Maybe put a cross against Reform, but subtly "spoil" your ballot paper. So all the agents have to see the paper to "agree" that it has been spoilt. That way the Tory will see they have lost a natural voter and you can have a "clear" conscience by voting for a party which aligns with your views, but at the same time not actually voting for them because you don't like Farage (maybe write that on your paper?).

tara66 · 04/07/2024 10:21

One of their candidates (Kent) said women should not get free NHS because they live longer than men and that was because they had easier lives. When they died at same age average as men they can get it again! No kidding!

Poiua · 04/07/2024 10:22

Wow my comments got deleted. Fairly sure all I said was that I was voting for reform and stated an actual reality that has happened on mainland Europe as one of my reasons. Highlighting what happens when these processes are not appropriately managed

I'd imagine they'd then listen to the loudest voice (or even who aligns with their views).
I'm not saying this is right but the real issue is the FPTP system

Because he thinks Andrew Tate is a good role model for our young men. Andrew tate is a rapist and sex trafficker. I think that shows what reform think about women

Well his brother donated to George Galloway party so not sure if they are backing Farage.

@BorgQueen "For clarity I’m not voting Reform -
if they are so awful, why have I seen Black people, a big group of Sikhs and plenty of Women campaigning for them? "

Because black people, Sikhs and women can be awful too.

Well that’s obvious and goes without saying.

I just think migrants to this country as a basic requirement should respect British values and do their best to integrate.

Some people genuinely come to this country hating it.

MissMuffetisin · 04/07/2024 10:26

Because you’ll be one of the people splitting the Tory vote so letting Labour win the seat - unless that’s your goal .

You have it correct when you say they'd be representing their own views.

Given that those standing for Reform have stated that women should be denied health care and that black people have lower IQs or that gay people are paedophiles, that's quite a worry.

LittleBowSheep · 04/07/2024 10:26

How can their policies possibly appeal to you when they're just made up to fill a piece of paper?

Farage is a total nutter who just says things to cause division and hatred.

Seriously, their policies are not worth the paper they are printed on. He wouldn't know where to start in reality.

Catsfishybreath · 04/07/2024 10:26

Vote Reform if that is what your head is telling you . It's your vote no one else's . No one has to know what you vote . It's no one's business anyway .

Labour have won anyway .

TerrysNeapolitan · 04/07/2024 10:28

It is a free country to vote for who you wish OP, ignore the abuse that the keyboard warriors dish out here, I will be voting reform this morning, I am an adult and whatever party people wish to vote for even if I do not agree, I will not be throwing insults online as I am a fully grown adult. Have a great day everyone.

IfImOnFire · 04/07/2024 10:28

BorgQueen · 04/07/2024 08:56

For clarity I’m not voting Reform -
if they are so awful, why have I seen Black people, a big group of Sikhs and plenty of Women campaigning for them?

Also, lots of people agree with the death penalty.

And? There are women who campaign against feminism, oppose abortion and advocate that women should be submissive to their husbands.

Some people align themselves with their oppressors. It happens all the time.

AnitaLoos · 04/07/2024 10:29

Farage is a fraud who loves Putin and Trump and is personally getting rich(er) from people hoping Reform because it’s a private limited company. He’s laughing at us. He doesn’t want to reform the NHS. He wants to dismantle it completely and replace it with a system based on private health insurance like the US, where medical costs are the single largest cause of bankruptcy. His party is riddled with racists and misogynists. If you think this grifter has any interest in helping women, the poor, sick or disabled, you are sadly mistaken. Vote anything but Reform. It’s a con.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 04/07/2024 10:29

To be honest OP, if you don't already know why you shouldn't vote for the latest incarnation of the Nigel Farage party, I'm not sure anyone on Mumsnet is going to convince you otherwise.

The Blackshirts were in Mussolini’s Italy and the Brownshirts were in Germany . At least get your history correct 🙄

What about the ones under Oswald Mosley in the uk?

So far nobody who is voting for Reform has come back to me on the comments made, by a standing Reform candidate, about women.

Here they are again. Can someone voting Reform (a party with just 16% female candidates) share their thoughts on how they're comfortable voting in a party that doesn't kick out someone who believes and publicly says the
below?

Beating in mind him not being kicked out means that Reform wants him to be able to sit in parliament and vote on policies including those specifically about the rights of women and girls.

His comments:

"Do you (women) think you could actually work and pay for it all too like good citizens?

"Men pay 80% of tax – women spend 80% of tax revenue. On aggregate as a group you only take from society.
"Less complaining please from the 'sponging gender'."

He added that women are "subsidised by men to merely breath (sic)".
In January 2022 he posted: "Men pay 80% of tax. Women take out 80% of expenditures.

"Square that inequality first by depriving women of healthcare until their life expectancies are the same as men, Fair’s fair."

In December 2021 he wrote female soldiers "almost made me wretch (sic)" and were a "total liability".'
