Judging by the conversations I overheard about the election today. It was all " stop the boats" and the uk is too attractive a place to live coz benefits 😂"
No wonder Farage is so poular and La Penn is gauning traction in France.

It's pointless telking oeoplat immigrants have a great work ethic generally and that the UK should be an attractive pkace to live and that the UK raped and colonised the world etc.

That type thought Brexit would stop the boats, and that Nigel Farage and his big red bus would singlehandedly save the NHS. Theyre hardly discerning are they, and definitely not intelligent so I'd hope they don't represent most people - although I'd say they do represent a great amount of people. They know very well that Tories didn't stop the boats, and nor will old Nigel. Didn't he rush to get an EU passport? I think they just like spewing hot air and if a real solution were to be presented they'd just find something else to moan about. In terms of the boat people I don't care that they're here but I do care that criminal record checks aren't done (or available) . Vast majority of immigrants I know work hard, it's not them sponging off the state

Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine · 03/07/2024 18:44

Racist immigrant here 😁

Racist immigrant here. Stop the boats. Yes, I voted reform.
One has to be extremely stupid to think that every one concerned about the state of immigration in the UK is racist.

You can be concerned about immigration without voting for Nigel bloody Farage! Do you hate yourself?

Just curious do you think anyone should be able to come here illegally and use public funds when we have no money for disabled people, elderly care, children live in poverty and a housing crisis

Do you think we should just pay for anyone who wants to come here and not try to stop that?

They wouldn’t be able to access public funds. The answer to your question is no though, I would imagine most people don’t think we can just let anyone in. However, the anger is misdirected. Look at your post - no money for the most vulnerable in society. Why is that? It certainly isn’t because of illegal immigrants.

Greaterorlesser · 03/07/2024 18:45

CurlewKate · 03/07/2024 17:37

"Anyone who wants to come and contribute to society is welcome. Don't care what race they are"

Let them work, then.

The problem is that many don’t come here to work. They come to disappear into the black economy. We have a high street that has been taken over by money laundering shops. Nail bars, vape shops, candy stores, owned by in the main Albanians who deal drugs and traffic people. The police can’t keep up with the problems these create. Because we don’t have to carry ID cards like other counties we are an easy target.

What's the likelihood that someone would hate themself. Why not ask a proper question, rather than being so rude?

Yes because vulnerable people tend to cope really well with illicit journeys moths long don't they? You want grandma to take the baby and the blind uncle to traverse Europe in the back of a lorry, then hop onto a dinghy across the channel? Would that make uou happy? Or would you prefer they all just surrender?
Why is it all young men? Because they're less likely to be killed, raped or drowned and more likely to make some money when they get here.
If you want the most vulnerable here, ask for safe and legal routes. If you don't want any here, just own it and say so.

No, it’s because the gangs refuse to take children and women and the system we have in the West doesn’t care about it. We help those who can pay and encourage the criminal gangs so that people like you can feel good about themselves.

Perhaps you should see pictures of 2WW refugees. Women and children travelling, for example, from Poland to Iran.

Triestre · 03/07/2024 18:47

Most European countries had colonies so what? Get it over with and stop defending this chaotic mess and the free buffet for all.

Well yes, partly true. Which is why I referenced safe and legal routes. Since the world, and border control, is rather different than in 1940.

That’s a very British mindset. I can’t speak for other nations but people from my home country in Africa do want to come to the U.K. Many would prefer the U.S. but the U.K. is good too. They want to come for a better and more prosperous life, yes, but benefits do not feature in their plans.

We don’t have benefits where I’m from originally. Most people wouldn’t understand the concept of them. You don’t work, you don’t eat, unless you have a relative or husband/boyfriend to subsidise you.

People want to come to the U.K. because the economic situation is bad and is getting ever worse with government corruption. Jobs are hard to get, even for those who are well qualified. They want jobs that pay and career opportunities not your paltry benefits!

This, absolutely. They send the young men because they're the ones with the best chance of survival. They hope to join them at some point in the future.

These are DRIVEN people, people who will risk death to make a new life.

They come illegally because there isn't a legal way and they are desparate.

If you say you wouldn't do the same for your family then you are either a coward or a liar.

Immigration is not the fundamental problem for the white working class. Their problem is that they are defunct.

Thatcher chose to destroy industry rather than allow workers a seat at the table. New Labour attempted to mitigate Thatcher and failed. Cameron to Johnson saw Britain was broken and scavenged what they could while there was still a beating heart.

We're fucked. You could argue that the only hope we have for renewal is an influx of immigrants who will work themselves into the ground to build a new life.

May you never have to pick up what you can carry, leave everything you know behind and run for your life. May you never have the doors of safety closed on you. May it never be your lived experience.

free buffet.

you know who really gets a free buffet? The long term english scroungers- generations of dole getters who play the system for a council house and reproduce indefinitely with no jobs to support their kids and no example to set them of work ethic. That’s who is getting the free buffet. You can tell that by the size of them.

You do realise that much of Europe has significantly more migration than we do?

Catsfishybreath · 03/07/2024 18:54

I can't blame the migrants from wanting a better life but we don't have the resources. This Government can't / won't even take care of its native population properly. Six weeks waiting to see a doctor, roads in a state , crumbling inner cities and torn centre's , weeds everywhere. No legal aid . Yet we are adding the size of a city each year due to illegal immigration. Look after our own first . Put our own oxygen mask on first .

redalex261 · 03/07/2024 18:54

No, most people are not racist. People want fairness and the rule of law to apply. So no ILLEGAL immigration, a sensible and honest conversation about effects on public services of significant population influxes and how that is to be managed. That’s regardless of the colour of anyone’s face. Stop being an agitating git.

Yep, and look how they’re all voting now.

It’s not a winner anywhere.

theapii · 03/07/2024 18:57

So because Europe has more immigration than us (one big land mass, we are an island), let's just follow suit and allow everyone here, because that's what Europe does so we can't even complain! Makes so much sense now...

Summerfreezemakesmedrinkwine · 03/07/2024 19:01

Jesus, I mean the bloody afd is rapidly rising in popularity with the young in Germany. It's a bloody tinderbox. Immigrants who currently live in this country have more to lose than those so detached that they think it's simply a numbers game to grow gdp with huge migration numbers.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 03/07/2024 19:04

I believe that most people of all races naturally have some racial bias and that has been proven in studies (I think the Chicago racial bias tests?) and everyone could do with recognising that and challenging their own biases a bit more

I think i probably know some people who think I. The way you describe but don't say it out loud (the type that say 'you can't say anything these days, the world's gone too pc'

I haven't come across too many people like the ones you describe thankfully but there always have been and always will be people like this, particularly when times are hard and they need someone to blame rather than accept we live in a country where we have participated in systems that mean the odds are stacked against some people no matter what they do.

Triestre · 03/07/2024 19:05

So what if Europe receives more of them? I for now live here so I care about here. I care about how much traffic and worsening quality of life we have now.

summershere99 · 03/07/2024 19:11

Can I just add that the vast majority of immigrants to this country do NOT come illegally or via ‘boats’. Most come on work or student visas.

I’m honestly shocked at some of the comments regarding immigration … and yes it does feel closely tied to racism because far right parties here and elsewhere want to stop pretty much anyone, except perhaps millionaires, from ´diluting’ their ‘culture’.

Also the UK has taken in around 175000 Ukrainian refugees. Compared to the approx 30,000 people that came by boat in 2023. And we’ve also given refuge to about 120,000 people from Hong Kong.

But Farage and the Daily Mail would have you believe it’s the ‘boats’ that are the problem. Because it does feed into the idea that some people are more worthy of help than others.
