Its nothing but Wimbledon and Euros. I switched on for the BBC 6 o'clock news. No. Wimbledon. Every programme disrupted. Another is it three weeks of this. Every year.,

@Samcro then don't watch it? What's the issue?

Sport is cast and varied and lots of people like some of it.

Quite odd to not like any sport.

What's odd about it, it's completely boring

Allfur · 03/07/2024 14:17

It's completely repetitive

Yeah I agree the news is repetitive. Pretty much only coverage of the election for the past few weeks. It's almost the same story at 1pm 6pm and 10pm too.

ilovesooty · 03/07/2024 14:25

Watch something else then.

I welcome sport coverage on terrestrial TV personally. It doesn't happen all the time.

Mountainpika · 03/07/2024 14:28

Not everyone has all these streaming, digital services. We don't, so are very limited when BBC is dominated by sport for weeks. And don't patronise me and tell us to get it.

Samcro · 03/07/2024 14:34

Laserwho · 03/07/2024 10:37

So don't watch it. I don't watch sport, that's my choice. But I accept that many people do enjoy so why should they be denied this?

ok, but why should people who don't like it have to be denied the programmes they want. the other day sport was on all 3 main channels.

I'm sure you'll cope, it's only for a couple of weeks

Iliketulips · 03/07/2024 14:52

The thing is some people aren't into dramas, documentaries, reality shows but enjoy sport. They make other plans while you're watching what you want, ie go for a walk, invite friends about for a chat, read, jigsaw or something else you enjoy doing inside. Start making plans now if you don't like sport, the Olympics will be on a lot more.

Just had a laugh though, DH isn't really into tennis and had a little moan last night (probably as clashing with football! - guess who's literally just walked into the room as he wanted to see if Cori Gauff was on tv and what the score is?

The news is repetitive but not as boring as watching someone do something with a ball over and over again

"ok, but why should people who don't like it have to be denied the programmes they want. the other day sport was on all 3 main channels."

But surely you can say that about these of us who enjoy sports - why should we be denied programmes that we want to watch?

I think it's important for sports to be shown on free tv. Things like the Olympics etc inspire children to take up sports.

carbon60 · 03/07/2024 20:46

Just think , in a few weeks time the Olympics will start .... Enjoy 😂

This. Or don’t watch tv - do something else!

Less boring instead.

The news?

Agreed!

Especially when a monarch dies! Dear god, the hours of repetition then was unreal!

But it doesn't happen often, so 🤷‍♀️ !

We learn to live with it.

What about motor racing? No ball involved!

Auburngal · 04/07/2024 06:33

About news channels being repetitive. Worked in a call centre we had Sky News on a TV (on silent with subtitles) and it was the day Boris Yeltsin died, The same 40 second clip of shaking hands with other presidents and similar went on for 2 hours

Great, about the only sporting event on the planet even more tedious than Tennis.

Still, the BBC will be loving it because it's a great opportunity to bang on and on about yet more middle class people participating in an event only four other people on the planet actually compete in.

Saving grace is it is only once every four years, but then the BBC insists on covering the utterly pointless Commonwealth Games as well. Oh look, some folk running in circles around a track. How thrilling 😴

The appeal of motorsport for many is just once in a blue moon you'll see someone killed, maimed, or injured on live TV. That's about it.

"Main channels"?! It's not 1995. Try any of the other hundreds of channels. Or read one of the main books.

ArthurTheBadger · 07/07/2024 12:43

Actually, I think the BBC shows too much Wimbledon. When it occupies both of their main two channels for much of the fortnight, it does seem to ignore those of us who don't enjoy it. I enjoy the World Snooker Championship, but agree that it is not for everyone. It is reasonable to show one snooker game on BBC2, and the rest on the red button. Put the final on BBC1 as a bonus. The same should be done with Wimbledon. Many people enjoy the routine of TV programming, and we should respect that.

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2024 12:45

I agree it's overkill at the moment and I've never been a fan of the Olympics , but just think of all the good programmes that may come out for autumn once the sport is distant memory and the football games are only available on sky tv for the die hard fans.
Can but hope.
