Its nothing but Wimbledon and Euros. I switched on for the BBC 6 o'clock news. No. Wimbledon. Every programme disrupted. Another is it three weeks of this. Every year.,

I literally never watch anything at the time it is broadcast, I watch things when I want to on catch up services or Netflix/Prime. I'm amused by people who still watch TV like it's the 90s.
As above there are a million other things you can watch if you don't like tennis, including 24 hour rolling news. Personally I can't thinknof anything worse than watching the news but we're all different.

Bbc 1, bbc2, tennis. And some footie

Not bloody everywhere, for crying out loud

Even my iPad sends me breaking news about it. It’s on the news channel. In the newspapers.

To me it feels everywhere, don’t take everything so literally.

Thepeopleversuswork · 03/07/2024 07:02

I’m with you OP. I find all sports so boring talking about them makes me want to cry.

Long experience has taught me people don’t get it though so I just creep off and entertain myself and have learned not to expect sympathy or recognition.

This time of year is hard for non sports lovers though because you feel so removed from everyone. I feel as if everyone is speaking an alien language I can’t understand.

Every year. Yep. So you probably should have seen it coming.

Why shouldn't I take your statement literally? You asserted it so strongly, no-one could possibly not refute it

Ridingthegravytrain · 03/07/2024 07:09

So THATS why it's started raining again this week

WhereIsTheHare · 03/07/2024 07:11

Honestly, so much entitled, childish bleating about “Make everything how I like it, all the time!”

I detest soaps, reality dross like Strictly and all the singing ones, ‘scripted reality’, whatever the hell that means, game shows and TV quizzes. I don’t get on my high horse about these taking up vast swathes of the schedules, because nobody is making me watch them! There are dozens of other free to air things to watch on TV while the relatively small amount of sport is being shown on freeview channels (which needs to be seen live, otherwise the results will be all over news and social media so there’s no point watching). Everyone likes different things and there’s room for a bit of everything on the large numbers of channels now available for free, let alone subscription services.

Why should I turn off my breaking news? There is still news I’m interested in, actual news.

I hardly think saying ‘it’s bloody everywhere’ is a strong assertion.

There are lots of threads for Euros and Wimbledon.

Why can’t you just let those of us who don’t like it moan on this thread? I don’t go on Telly Addicts and moan to them.

GreenWheat · 03/07/2024 07:12

ohthejoys21 · 02/07/2024 22:22

Me too. Why do they think the majority like watching sport?.

Presumably because as broadcasters who live and die by their viewing figures, they have invested time and energy into knowing what is popular? Either that or they've read this thread!

What a load of ageist crap. Lots of older people enjoy sport.

So you just sit there watching sport you don’t like instead of picking up the remote? How does that mean you’re not 5? Confused

Edited

'Scrambling' implies a desperate speed which seems disproportionate to the issue in hand. That was the point.

It’s just an expression, scramble for something just means you’re in a hurry to get it.

God, there are some really literal people on this thread.

EinekleineKatze · 03/07/2024 07:19

Don't watch it then.
Find another channel or do something completely different.

Yes. Why the hurry? That's the point. It's only sport, it won't kill you!

I’m just saying I hate it but I know I’m in the minority. Badly phrased maybe. Don’t expect anything.

it would be bloody weird if you got “sympathy” or “recognition “ and even weirder to expect it

For years. Yesterday the British number one was playing late, so that was shown live to a British audience. Not unreasonable, surely?

OK OK I’ve said it was badly phrased. My bad. I don’t expect sympathy.

It is quite alienating though because for the period it’s on it’s quite hard to have conversations with people about anything else. It gets quite draining.

I just find other things to do.
