Its nothing but Wimbledon and Euros. I switched on for the BBC 6 o'clock news. No. Wimbledon. Every programme disrupted. Another is it three weeks of this. Every year.,

I think it is having the lot on at the same time, there is no escape, DH is watching the Tour de France which also seems to be on every day, fortunately I have a few things to watch on streaming channels and DH is quite happy to pop off upstairs to watch the cycling and football, he doesn't really watch the tennis much but is looking forward to the Olympics, there is no end

Why should I turn off my breaking news? There is still news I’m interested in, actual news.

I hardly think saying ‘it’s bloody everywhere’ is a strong assertion.

There are lots of threads for Euros and Wimbledon.

Why can’t you just let those of us who don’t like it moan on this thread? I don’t go on Telly Addicts and moan to them.

But mostly, PPs are not moaning! You are in the minority, which is fine
Perhaps you should be moaning on the telly addicts thread, you'd get more traction

magnoliablooms · 03/07/2024 07:52

The 6:00 news is always shit.

It's just election stuff and sport

Twotimesrhymes · 03/07/2024 07:52

I love Wimbledon

do you have Amazon Prime or Netflix ? I can recommend the Village on Prime (excellent)

I think the constant noise of the ball and the grunts is really irritating and I found that if I turn the sound down it is better.
I then experimented with the 'brightness' function and turned that down to the lowest it would go, you could barely see the picture at all and that was even better.
Finally I put a Peppa Pig DVD on and was able to turn the sound back up and re-adjust the brightness and my world was back to normal.

RaininSummer · 03/07/2024 07:52

Well there are not 100 channels on my back room tv and I put dinner on the table and turned on the 6pm news which wasn't bloody there. Very annoying. If there are 100 channels then the sport could go somewhere else couldn't it?

BobnLen · 03/07/2024 07:52

At least BBC has done the decent thing and left Eastenders daily on iPlayer so that can be watched on the normal days, not sure what other channels have done with their soaps

Could you not source your news from another channel?

Thepeopleversuswork · 03/07/2024 07:43

OK OK I’ve said it was badly phrased. My bad. I don’t expect sympathy.

It is quite alienating though because for the period it’s on it’s quite hard to have conversations with people about anything else. It gets quite draining.

I just find other things to do.

You must live in a tennis obsessed environment!

Liv999 · 03/07/2024 07:59

Love Wimbledon, not too pushed on the Euros although I watch the odd game

BobnLen · 03/07/2024 07:59

We are going away in the caravan next week on a walking holiday so I am going prepared with a loaded iPad of boxsets and my AirPods to watch in the evening relaxing as we will just have basic telly there with all the sports and not much internet signal.

Cocothecoconut · 03/07/2024 07:41

I wanted to watch sewing bee last night
since when has Wimbledon been on so bloody late 😣

Always, especially in the first week when there are lots of matches to get through.

I am a tennis lover and always used to take the second week of Wimbledon off as there wasn't as much coverage on in the evenings as less matches. Whereas in the first week it was played until 9pm or lack of light. Now, if the roof is shut in centre and court 1 play can go on until 11.

magnoliablooms · 03/07/2024 08:08

Do you think the BBC are forced to cover it?

BusyMum47 · 03/07/2024 08:45

Comedycook · 02/07/2024 22:11

It's not the 1980s, there's more than four TV channels. Just watch something else on one of the many many TV channels or streaming services.

Exactly! ⬆️ Get a grip. It's 2 weeks (not 3) once a year & it's not disrupting EVERY programme.

BringMeTea · 03/07/2024 08:54

YAB SO SO U! And as pp say it is 2 weeks. Exaggeration to gain support for your view is reprehensible. I wish it was a month. 👍🏼😎

Zanatdy · 03/07/2024 08:56

Some of us enjoy it. Change channel or go out and enjoy life

TheDarkMonarch · 03/07/2024 08:57

Think about it this way: at least you get them over with at once - though, of course, the Olympics will start at the end of July.

I know everyone else has said it, but if you settle into streaming it's actually pretty easy to avoid the sport. To the extent that, genuinely and honestly, I only know Wimbledon has started because you made this thread.

There are so many channels etc these days, I find it's easy to totally miss out on great shows so there is always something you can go back and watch at times like these.

bunnypenny · 03/07/2024 09:06

By law, Wimbledon, the Euros, football World Cup, Grand National, Olympics and other designated sports have to be shows on free to air terrestrial TV (so BBC, ITV, or Channels 4 or 5). They’re deemed “sporting Crown Jewels” and can’t be shown only on pay-TV as they must be available to the nation. It’s set out in the Broadcasting Act 1996 and subsequent regulations etc.

Laserwho · 03/07/2024 09:57

phishy · 03/07/2024 06:21

So you just sit there watching sport you don’t like instead of picking up the remote? How does that mean you’re not 5? Confused

Edited

No I don't sit and watch it, but I dont scramble to the change the channel instantly like a 5 year old having a tantrum because they don't want it on.

people always say this and its wrong.yes wimbledon is only 2 weeks.
but then you have the football, the the olympics.
sport is not something every one wants to watch.

So don't watch it. I don't watch sport, that's my choice. But I accept that many people do enjoy so why should they be denied this?

Oh yes, one of MN's acceptable 'isms'!

Auburngal · 03/07/2024 12:02

The way some people moan about sports being on the TV - they think we only have 5 channels.

Listen to podcasts, dig out DVDs, stream tv, read a book, play a game (board or video), do puzzles
